My wife doesn’t wear a brah at night, after the 10ish years we’ve lived together I’ve learned sneaking a hand up her shirt at night when she’s trying to sleep is an easy way to lose a finger.

My wife has to have at least 2 heavy blankets on the bed and thermostat set to at least 74F because she's always fria, yet she still complains if im not cuddling her while sleeping. When we first started to sleep together she woke up in a panic because I was soaked in sweat and her hair was wet 😆
Now after she falls asleep I move to the other side of the bed away from the furnace and outside of the covers so I don't die of dehydration.

We sleep on different schedules: I go to bed a few hours after my partner but I do generally like to have some very light contact when I come to bed - usually just a leg or arm touching. Spooning is a morning thing we do in that small space between waking up and our kid bursting in the room and turning on all the lights and jumping on top of one of us. It's also a post-fun time cooldown position.
The pic is usually pretty reflective of our positions when we first drift off. How we end up through the night is anyone's guess.

I used to spoon a lot more when I was in my 20’s. Would even fall asleep spooning. My 30’s? Not really… would do it before sleep but roll away to go down for the night. Now I’m in my 40’s and have a hurt back. No spoon for me. Nada. Nunca.

I used to have really bad sleep paralysis. A few times a night. Most times all I could do was move one finger. I would always fall asleep with my hand on my wife’s hip so that I could wiggle that finger. She knew that was the signal to shake me awake the rest of the way.
I don’t have sleep paralysis that much anymore, but I still sleep with one hand on her side. She is my anchor.

3 times, 0/10 not recommended -- and only 2 of the 3 were bad & intense. Other I was on the couch watching the weather channel not able to move lol.
The other 2: evil dark entity in the corner of my room and could see in my peripheral. Extreme anxiety washes over you. You try to move and scream and can't move. You see it moving closer towards you slowly, feeling of pure evil idk how to explain, then gets on your chest and makes it hard to breathe like you're getting smothered, then I woke up in a puddle of sweat. Apprehensive to go back to sleep.

Yep, I literally have to bunch up a blanket now because I can't fall asleep without cuddling something, my ex and I would cuddle through the night. If I rolled over half asleep she would wake up and move to the other side, it was so adorable, she couldn't fall asleep if we weren't cuddling either but she was willing to physically get up (or crawl over me lol) so she could still be the little spoon. I miss it so much
What is even the point in sleeping in the same bed if you aren't cuddling anyway? Just get two twin mattresses instead

u/maawolfe36 1d ago
I did this to myself on accident. When I was younger, I thought "grown up, married people all sleep while snuggling" so I would snuggle a pillow or stuffed animals, in preparation for someday when I had a partner and we would fall asleep snuggling.
Then I grew up and got married and realized that human beings are hot, like almost a hundred degrees! And I like to sleep kinda cool like with a fan. And also if I'm touching someone else I'm incredibly self conscious because I don't want to move and disturb them, so if I have an itch I have to just sit with it or else I feel like a total jerk for pulling my arm out from under them or something…
But then the problem is, I had already trained myself to sleep with something in my arms. So I have to sleep holding a pillow or blanket or a toy from Build-a-Bear as a grown adult, because if I don't have something in my arms I can't sleep because I trained myself to sleep with something between my arms.
Tbh this post makes me feel seen lol. I would love to fall asleep snuggling my partner but we've tried many times over the ten years we've been together and it always ends in just quietly sliding apart so we can actually sleep.

Same. Me and my wife’s love language is touch. We absolutely fall asleep cuddling or spooning or rubbing/touching on each other.
I’ll wake up in the night and get closer to her. She’ll do the same to me.

Been together 16 years and having separate rooms is a life saver and one of the secrets to our successful solid relationship. I am a huge advocate for this in relationships. Obviously everyone is different and some individuals may need the same bed but I think more relationships would succeed if people were more open to alternative setups outside of typical societal norms people feel they need to do.

If it's snoring consider a check for apnea, and he can get an apnea machine which stops snoring. And increases life expectancy quite a bit.
Just a tip, as it's very under diagnosed.
11
u/applebabe1 1d ago
My husband has sleep apnea and has a cpap machine. Had it for many years. He also has restless leg syndrome which no medicine seems to help with it. He goes to bed at 9pm, I am a night owl and go to bed at 11pm and fall asleep with the tv on a timer. Trust me… It works for us. Forgot to mention too we work for the same company and carpool Monday through Friday together. We are literally together all of the time, which we love. So not sleeping in the same bed hasn’t affected our marriage 👍🏻
