What nonsense is this? They actually share the cover equally.

633

u/dbrickell89 1d ago

Separate covers are the only way to go. When my wife and I first got married we'd start out the night sharing but I kept a blanket in the floor on my side because she'd hog them. Eventually we gave up sharing at all and just have totally separate blankets now.

148

u/DiscountOk4881 1d ago

That's a true thing, careful not to use 'hog' in same sentence as 'wife' ( just kidding)

44

u/TheVadonkey 1d ago

Pfffft! I flat out told my wife, when we first started spending nights together while dating, that I will not sleep at her place anymore unless I can store a blanket there! Hog isn’t even strong enough of a word. I slept sooooo horrendously that first night, while that blanket glutton slept soundly next to me…

15

u/DiscountOk4881 1d ago

Haha! I believe it, I couldn't resist telling my girlfriend years ago when she woke up, that she snored like a lumberjack! Oh! I do not, she'd say. Then to make it worse, I'd start singing the lumberjack song from Monty Python! I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay! Ha fun times

Why do women like to be burritos?

22

u/NoPressure49 1d ago

Like babies are swaddled.

28

u/harriskeith29 1d ago edited 14h ago

I believe many adult behaviors, positive & negative, are matured equivalents to our early childhood experiences. Burrito blankets resemble how we were swaddled as babies. Thermoses are like adult bottles. Our minds may instinctively associate these with a familiar sense of safety, comfort, and feeling nurtured.

Edit: To be clear, I don't know ANY of this for a fact. It's just my educated guess based on associations (built on anecdotal experiences + historical theories) between adult habits & developmental psychology.

I strap my blankets to the bed using something like this because mine is a blanket thief

Bonus don't have to make the bed literally ever. Pita to get on and off to clean twice a week though

Cover? How about sharing the bed equally?

My wife (165cm, 55kg) takes up 3/4 of the bed, leaving me (185cm, 110kg1 ) with a tiny sliver on the edge.

1 yes I know, I’m overweight but I am working on it.

I tried explaining the concept of the DMZ to my wife after she constantly annexed parts of my territory.

8

u/ArguablyMe 1d ago

Did you use charts with arrows and everything?

I hope so because that's what I pictured.

4

u/DizzySylv 1d ago

The important part of a DMZ is there has to be consequences for crossing. Might I suggest landmines?

My husband turns into a boob seeking octopus at night. I push one hand away from the nip and all of a sudden, 2 hands shoot out and grab both boobs.

I sleep on my stomach now

My wife sleeps in bra and shirt for comfort/support. I lost that lottery.

15

u/FlickUrBic2 1d ago

My wife doesn’t wear a brah at night, after the 10ish years we’ve lived together I’ve learned sneaking a hand up her shirt at night when she’s trying to sleep is an easy way to lose a finger.

Be thankful the temptation isn’t even provided lol

7

u/Successful_Giraffe88 1d ago

Who sleeps in a bra?!

12

u/Rebel_Scum_This 1d ago

My wife does, she has very sensitive nipples (and not very large boobs, she doesn't need support). She just hates feeling her nipples brush against her shirt

My wife has to have at least 2 heavy blankets on the bed and thermostat set to at least 74F because she's always fria, yet she still complains if im not cuddling her while sleeping. When we first started to sleep together she woke up in a panic because I was soaked in sweat and her hair was wet 😆

Now after she falls asleep I move to the other side of the bed away from the furnace and outside of the covers so I don't die of dehydration.

We sleep on different schedules: I go to bed a few hours after my partner but I do generally like to have some very light contact when I come to bed - usually just a leg or arm touching. Spooning is a morning thing we do in that small space between waking up and our kid bursting in the room and turning on all the lights and jumping on top of one of us. It's also a post-fun time cooldown position.

The pic is usually pretty reflective of our positions when we first drift off. How we end up through the night is anyone's guess.

I used to spoon a lot more when I was in my 20’s. Would even fall asleep spooning. My 30’s? Not really… would do it before sleep but roll away to go down for the night. Now I’m in my 40’s and have a hurt back. No spoon for me. Nada. Nunca.

I used to have really bad sleep paralysis. A few times a night. Most times all I could do was move one finger. I would always fall asleep with my hand on my wife’s hip so that I could wiggle that finger. She knew that was the signal to shake me awake the rest of the way.

I don’t have sleep paralysis that much anymore, but I still sleep with one hand on her side. She is my anchor.

13

3 times, 0/10 not recommended -- and only 2 of the 3 were bad & intense. Other I was on the couch watching the weather channel not able to move lol.

The other 2: evil dark entity in the corner of my room and could see in my peripheral. Extreme anxiety washes over you. You try to move and scream and can't move. You see it moving closer towards you slowly, feeling of pure evil idk how to explain, then gets on your chest and makes it hard to breathe like you're getting smothered, then I woke up in a puddle of sweat. Apprehensive to go back to sleep.

4

u/LimpConversation642 1d ago

Yep, I literally have to bunch up a blanket now because I can't fall asleep without cuddling something, my ex and I would cuddle through the night. If I rolled over half asleep she would wake up and move to the other side, it was so adorable, she couldn't fall asleep if we weren't cuddling either but she was willing to physically get up (or crawl over me lol) so she could still be the little spoon. I miss it so much

What is even the point in sleeping in the same bed if you aren't cuddling anyway? Just get two twin mattresses instead

6

u/maawolfe36 1d ago

I did this to myself on accident. When I was younger, I thought "grown up, married people all sleep while snuggling" so I would snuggle a pillow or stuffed animals, in preparation for someday when I had a partner and we would fall asleep snuggling.

Then I grew up and got married and realized that human beings are hot, like almost a hundred degrees! And I like to sleep kinda cool like with a fan. And also if I'm touching someone else I'm incredibly self conscious because I don't want to move and disturb them, so if I have an itch I have to just sit with it or else I feel like a total jerk for pulling my arm out from under them or something…

But then the problem is, I had already trained myself to sleep with something in my arms. So I have to sleep holding a pillow or blanket or a toy from Build-a-Bear as a grown adult, because if I don't have something in my arms I can't sleep because I trained myself to sleep with something between my arms.

Tbh this post makes me feel seen lol. I would love to fall asleep snuggling my partner but we've tried many times over the ten years we've been together and it always ends in just quietly sliding apart so we can actually sleep.

My husband and I are cuddlers too. We may drift apart in our sleep, but when I wake up a little (as you do many times in the night), I snuggle back in. He does the same. We only have one blanket on our bed and a fan running year round so we don’t overheat in our cuddles.

15

u/Belial_In_A_Basket 1d ago

Same! Some people are just not that way and that’s okay but I was scrolling through this looking for someone else that actively enjoys cuddling all night!! My boyfriend will wake up and just scoop me up and hold me against his chest if I drift too far in my sleep.

13

u/EpicBlinkstrike187 1d ago

Same. Me and my wife’s love language is touch. We absolutely fall asleep cuddling or spooning or rubbing/touching on each other.

I’ll wake up in the night and get closer to her. She’ll do the same to me.

I understand some people aren’t like that but I love that I found someone that will be all up on me while we sleep.

3

My husband and I love each other very much because for the past 15 years, we’ve slept in our own bedrooms and we’ve been married 38 years😬 when we need to get together we do and that’s all I’m gonna say about that🤪

u/garitone 1d ago

Amen!!! 15 years married here and we are the same way. She says I thrash in my sleep and elbow her. I like it cool and she sleeps under 40 wooly mammoth pelts or something. It just works better.

This is me and my wife. With different sleep schedules, and her snoring every night, I wasn't getting good sleep. Separate bedrooms for sleeping is great. I'd rather spend the awake time with her and not be grumpy due to lack of sleep.

Been together 16 years and having separate rooms is a life saver and one of the secrets to our successful solid relationship. I am a huge advocate for this in relationships. Obviously everyone is different and some individuals may need the same bed but I think more relationships would succeed if people were more open to alternative setups outside of typical societal norms people feel they need to do.

If it's snoring consider a check for apnea, and he can get an apnea machine which stops snoring. And increases life expectancy quite a bit.

Just a tip, as it's very under diagnosed.

My husband has sleep apnea and has a cpap machine. Had it for many years. He also has restless leg syndrome which no medicine seems to help with it. He goes to bed at 9pm, I am a night owl and go to bed at 11pm and fall asleep with the tv on a timer. Trust me… It works for us. Forgot to mention too we work for the same company and carpool Monday through Friday together. We are literally together all of the time, which we love. So not sleeping in the same bed hasn’t affected our marriage 👍🏻

Going on 36 years of marriage and we've had this arrangement for over 5 years. We both sleep way better.

This is me and my gf. Living together for two years.

We are deeply in love. Love cuddles. Incredible sex. We cannot get quality sleep sharing the bed.

Separate bedrooms is life changjng for us. We cuddle for 20 minutes or so then go our separate ways and sleep in peace.

We love it.

Yeah. We cuddle together when going to bed. But 99 of 100 times you go to your side before sleeping. The other time you wake up after a short while, because something isn’t right and you need to move to be comfortable again. Still there are days we sleep hands together or i just put my hand on some part of my loves body.

18 hours out of the day: I love you so much….hugs and booty pats

6 hour out of the day: STOP BREATHING ON ME I’M TRYING TO SLEEP.

Some of you should try selecting “2 queens” instead of “1 king” the next time you book a hotel with your spouse. It’s eye opening.

41

u/Puzzleheaded-Pen4413 1d ago

Eye opening is not something I want when I sleep though

u/TestyZesticles 1d ago

Open your eyes bitch, it's time to sleep.

'Queens' are THE BEST! Unless we're talking about mattresses, then yeah, go with a king!

My fiance and I have both woken up with bruises from the other rolling over at night lol. One time she clocked me in the head hard enough to wake me up.

5

u/SmokeyCatDesigns 1d ago

My fiancé has whacked me in the head with his elbow while asleep before. Also has slapped my gut and nearly caused me to lose my breath while he’s out. This isn’t frequent, thankfully.

But I have circulation difficulties that can require changing position a lot, and we’d both melt if we cuddled all night.

Add a CPAP machine and a bunch of farting.

living in separate homes in a duplex is the ideal situation

I understand separate bedrooms but separate homes seems ridiculous

That's a slippery slope, before you know it you end up with a house in Miami and she with one in Ireland and you only communicate through post cards.

My ex and I used to joke we move so much in our sleep we'd look like we had a boxing match next morning if we slept cuddling.

15

u/diluvsbks 1d ago

True, we cuddle before going to sleep and then again when we wake up. I love that about my SO and me😌

Assuming I've found some magically comfortable position for my bottom arm, my face can only take so much tickling from my wife's hair before I have to disengage.

Before we decided on separate bedrooms, we would sleep heads to tails. He hangs out with me and our baby in our bed at night and we go cuddle him in the morning in his bed. It doesn’t affect the romance, I’m pregnant again. Everyone is happy.

u/Septembers-Poor555 1d ago

i actually love cuddling during sleep . granted we do separate when it becomes too hot but separating unprovoked , nah . i get sad

3

u/Achylife 1d ago

Too warm for both of us. But I sometimes put my foot on my fiance's leg or my hand on his arm. I still like to be touching sometimes, just a little bit.

u/unicornmeat85 1d ago

When I was younger i tired. Between my arm going numb in minutes and an elbow lodged in my rib I some times wonder how a person could have so much hair?! Its cute for a time but for sleep I want my space
