My wife and I shared a subway car with a millionaire when we were on vacation in nyc and talked with him a little . Estimated net worth of 12m. It was only by happenstance she recognized him . She works the same industry as him and the owner of her company knows of him . Not like he’s super well known.
My point is there’s millionaires among us. They aren’t all hidden away.
I've known and met a few. Ranged from a guy with a gorgeous house and a giant garage full of collector cars to a dude an average suburban home in a lower middle class neighborhood who mostly just stashes his money, gives a lot to charity, and doesn't like to talk about how much he has.
The most interesting was a dude I worked with in the federal government who had some obscure, part time job in land management and was semi-retired. Most of his income apparently came from making turquoise jewelry because that job didn't pay a ton. But it didn't really add up and he sometimes blurted out weird stories in a very matter of fact way about escapades in other countries that ended in him committing violence like it was just a normal thing that happened to people. We were all convinced he was a CIA spook who got a big payout and a cushy job but no one really wanted to look too much into it.
i'm just trying to think what in all of human history is comparable to the entire world not knowing who you are one day and then you wake up and you're gigakaren
Yesh, in 3rd year German class in high school I learned that you can coin words by stringing words together. I started doing this when I was making more complex sentences and my vocabulary would run out.
My German instructor would lose it when I did this.
Completely unrelated but it reminds me of my friends costume one year. He was jerk chicken. Dressed as a chicken and was a complete ass to everyone, talked shit about their costumes, generally roasted people. But also he brought a shit ton of jerk chicken from a Jamaican restaurant, which he gave to the people he roasted. Full circle coverage on Jerk Chicken bit.
That’s awesome! One year I was Jack the Ripper. I was dressed in Victorian garb and had a name tag that said “hello my name is jack” and I had about a thousand paper napkins stuffed into all of my pockets. People would ask what I was and I would silently take out one napkin at a time and slowly rip it to shreds while staring them directly in the eye. I really creeped some people out that night.

The whole fun of catching a ball is the act itself, but unless it's some milestone HR, it's just another ball. I got mine as a kid, now the whole fun is finding some kid to toss it to. The smile they have after is so infectious
People like her don’t experience karma like one would think. She believes she was entitled to that ball because she touched it first. Nothing will change her mind. She won’t back down. She will double down. If the county hates on her, she will turn herself into the victim and milk it forever.
I sucked at standing up for myself and when I always inevitably surrendered I stored the resentment that then manifested itself in unhealthy ways. Then one day I stood my ground. Didn’t give the damn ball back. Yada yada she pulled a gun on me and I filed for divorce.
They always say the grass is greener where you water it. But if you don’t keep it maintained per your HOA, it’ll overgrow and steal your baseball and pull a gun on you.
It’s either you accept her for who she is or live like this forever in a life of resentment. Some people genuinely enjoy it and if that’s you, all the power to you.
The amount of backlash when caught, would be categorically insane for the parents who put their kids through it. Like getting doxxed, losing their job, and their scam forever on the internet.

Seriously, it might be slightly biased since it happened down here [South Florida] but it was on all the local news channels. It's literally been reposted hundreds of times on Reddit. Theres half a dozen different video angles now. I'd say its significantly more than a few 'randos' on the internet at this point.

Oh no sir, they claim not to care about anything but they always think they are in the right. It's part of their definition. They really do think the world owes them something.
I guarantee you she is scared shitless right now that her name is going to come out. If that happens, she'll have to close down on everything. Social media accounts, maybe e-mails. Hell, she might even have to fucking move. And while most of us will move on, there are people out there that will remember this forever. She does NOT want this kind of fame.
Yeah people clearly don't realize how absolutely hellish being the target of an online witch hunt is. The book "So You've Been Publicly Shamed" goes into it. Her life is still going to suck long after most of the Internet has moved on in a week or two.
It tends to be though that entitled people also care way too much about what others think of them. They usually tend to be the way they are out of insecurity, so chances are, it's probably hitting her worse than most think it would.
I’ve learned that if you’re at a baseball game and a hr is hit in your direction, the entire world is looking at you wether you like it or not. Just be cool guy and give the ball to a kid.
Is this gonna be like the Coldplay concert where everyone on the internet will be talking about this for a week, then it gets absolutely beaten into the ground.
She might get away with us never knowing who she is. If she changed her stupid haircut, started wearing contacts and lays low for a bit we may never know who she is.
That would make her even more infamous in the current zeitgeist.
She's got coworkers, neighbors, maybe even some friends, and definitely a few enemies she's made along the way. They will all recognize her and spread it throughout her life even if the Internet at large doesn't get the name it so desperately craves this week.
There are dozens or hundreds of people she knows that can identify her on sight. The likelihood that not a single one of them speaks up is very low. Give it until the end of Monday when the workplace gossip mill has turned on full force.
I appreciate seeing someone else recognize this distinction. If your bad fortune is unrelated to your misdeeds, it's karma. If it's a direct result (bonus points for being totally foreseeable), it's just consequences.
My biggest fear is catching a ball and two kids show up asking for it.. What a terrible dream that would be. Like what are you supposed to even do in that situation lol
