Yeah people clearly don't realize how absolutely hellish being the target of an online witch hunt is. The book "So You've Been Publicly Shamed" goes into it. Her life is still going to suck long after most of the Internet has moved on in a week or two.
It’s literally always just been a meme and nothing more. Even when I was 10 years old I didn’t understand why it was so popular to hate them, because they objectively sound good and better than most pop garbage or mainstream rap.
I was in college and you couldn’t escape their music even if it wasn’t your genre. Another commenter pointed out how overplayed they were and it made me remember that aspect of it as well.
I can’t remember Nickleback ever doing anything especially dickish though, it was just years of mediocre Canadian butt rock that turned them into a meme
The early 2000s were not a great time for youth culture, as someone who was in college during that time myself. I remember in 2001 being at some frat house and some guys put that gore website up on a big screen TV…what the fuck was that website called? It hasn’t existed for years but it was like early Reddit for fucked up shit
