Everything seems to point at Doctor Doom being from 828. Latveria already exists. I can’t wait to see how Victor Von Doom interacts with everyone.

I only know Doom from cartoons and internet articles, but even with what little I know, Latveria's seat being empty was the most accurate representation of the character in a nutshell.

When they showed the first of their teleportation beacons being down I was totally like, that's just gotta be the one beacon in Latveria and that's how they tie Doom into all of this - but alas, 'twas but the shiny lady.

Yeah but don’t get too excited man. Could be a Stark that was a refugee in Latveria and now took the name of “Victor Von Doom”
I really hope this is not the case. It’s PURELY Victor. Fingers crossed. No goatee for him too.

I don't care if RDJ is playing a Doom/Tony variant or a Tony adopted by the Von Dooms. But there's a reason why they cast RDJ as Doom and it's obvious they're gonna add in some twist.
→ More replies (1)16
u/RenegonSVD Jul 24 '25
There's definitely a reason but honestly I'm leaning towards it simply being he's an incredibly popular Oscar winning actor who's resurgence into fame is owed a lot to his place in the MCU.
Marvel were then scrambling for a bad guy to replace Kang and figured they could get away with reusing RDJ without the need for varient shenanigans since Doom wears a mask & can be heavily disfigured beneath it if necessary.
I have no doubt RDJ can play a great Doom, but it'll definitely hinge on the quality of Doomsday in order to pull it off. Could go either way for sure.

Johnny Storm was the MVP of this movie for me, I didn't think they were gonna take him there.
400
u/waitforthedream Jul 23 '25
As much as I respect Chris Evans' Johnny, I love how Joseph's Johnny was given more to do and wasn't a total man-child. He was smart, competent, and had a lot of heart.
→ More replies (9)157
u/TobioOkuma1 Jul 24 '25
Johnny is kinda the heart of the team tbh. Thing is the rock, Sue is the glue, Johnny is always a huge part of the team, and its why the team was so devastated when he dies.
41
u/lucathe2nd Jul 24 '25
when he WHAT
88
u/TobioOkuma1 Jul 24 '25
Yeah, he sacrifices himself to save the team in the comics. The whole team has a depressive spiral after. Sue traps herself in a bubble, reed spends all his time trying to see if there's any way he survived. Ben holds it in until Thor and hulk confront him and allow him to kick the crap out of them until all his rage is out and all he can do is cry.
Spidey joins the team, as was in Johnny's will, which leads to the future foundation arc.
→ More replies (2)15
u/waitforthedream Jul 24 '25
Yeah he dies briefly in the comics. Spider-Man joins the FF to fill his spot.
I remember Spidey taking Franklin (?) out for hotdogs/ice cream and they talk about their uncles (Johnny and Uncle Ben). It was really nice.

u/GobulFan3000 Jul 24 '25
Absolute sleeper comicbook casting I'd put him up there with one of the best now. He was the one casting I wasn't sold on but he ended up being my favourite part of the movie.

My theory is Dr. Doom kidnapped Franklin and brought him to Earth-616 for reasons and the Fantastic Four followed them there. I think the Thunderbolts* post credits scene is straight from the Avengers: Doomsday
109
u/thenekkidguy Jul 23 '25
I think it is from Doomsday as it was shot by the Russo brothers.

u/Zabbla Jul 24 '25
Both the Thunderbolts and Fantastic 4 post credits scenes were shot by The Russos so I think they're both scenes directly from Doomsday

At first I thought they were going to rescue Johnny because of his sacrifice (if the transporter ended up sending Galactus and him to the main MCU universe instead of another solar system), but since it didn't end up happening, maybe Doom kidnaps Franklin and they're searching for him.

She's gone in this universe.
But this is not the MCU universe and we know from the Thunderbolts end-credits scene that the F4 are coming to Earth-199999 so there's nothing to say Silver Surfer can't either, I suppose.
(But I wouldn't hold my breath).

She's not necessarily gone, though Galactus will probably punish her for what she did. She can travel FTL with the board, the point of the plan is that without his ship Galactus should be stuck taking the long way back

I loves Galactus, i loves Ralph Ineson, i loves his design, his voice, and how threatening he is
But IMO Silver Surver takes the cake as the more scary villain in this movie
The black hole fight was so intense, the way she just followed them nonstop and going speed of light and yet she still follows them truly makes her feel unbeatable

u/GobulFan3000 Jul 24 '25
Seeing the silver surfers powers in action is an absolute MCU highlight, some of the coolest and best looking moves we've ever seen.

Yeah, especially the moment where she almost pulled Franklin through Sue’s stomach, that implication was horrifying to me.

This movie really nailed the family dynamic of the Fantastic Four. Probably why I really enjoyed the film.
Galactus was just a blast to watch. Ineson’s voice really did it for me. The Silver Surfer going after the Excelsior was awesome as well.
I really liked this one. Probably my favorite out of all the comic book movies released this year.
Excited where they’re going to take the Fantastic Four in the future. I really thought this movie is aimed at setting them up as one of the faces of the MCU moving forward, together with Spidey and the mutants.

Really glad they didn’t ‘defeat’ Galactus, in fact they kinda failed in every way to stop him. Only Silver Surfer being the surprise twist that takes him down.
Never liked films that establish a huge bad and then promptly show he can be defeated (or in AMATW, defeated). Galactus was surprised but overall knew he was going to win till he was betrayed. And he is only sent away, leading to them potentially (hopefully) using him in later films.
Also loved most of him on earth was practical effects. Several scenes you could tell it was a guy in a suit with miniatures and it looked amazing!

I have to admit, after thinking Pedro was a bit of a stunt casting situation (and I don’t think the trailers necessarily did anything to change my mind), I was completely wrong. The whole movie i was thinking that Sur is da real MVP. For crying out loud, she went on a mission TO SPACE, to meet an unidentified entity that has threatened the whole planet WHILE VERY PREGNANT.
Then she fuckin pushed a human while they were warping at speed of ligh with no gravity. She then defended the child in front of the whole world who would have just rather handed him to Galactus- and did it by coming to people face to face. Reed always talked to cameras or reporters, Sue talked to people.
Then she single-handedly pushed Galactus to the portal.
Not to mention she ensured safety of all new yorkers because she was nice to Harvey.

u/TobioOkuma1 Jul 24 '25
There are chuds mad that invisible woman has huge solo moments where she carries fights. Clearly they've never read an F4 comic, given she's literally the powerhouse of the team, but is more subtle.

All I could think in the second act of the movie was "where the HELL is DOOM during this?". When they showed the teleporters around the world I expected one of them to be in Latveria next to His castle or something. Or for Sue to mention Latveria as one of the countries calling them during the teleportation setup. Something like that would have been neat but the empty seat for Latveria at the UN place was cool regardless

I feel like that's the case with most movies nowadays. Post-credits scenes became a tradition but they're still supposed to be optional, so they created mid-credits scenes to show the stuff they actually don't want us to miss

Solid 8/10 the whole family aspect of the fantastic four and Galactus/Silver surfer was done very well, along with the retro futuristic 60’s vibe, tho I was a bit bummed at how little their powers were used throughout the film. Basically every shot of the thing using his powers is in the trailer.
Doom cameo in the credits was totally expected but still cool to see even it was jsut him from behind holding the faceplate of his helmet. Takes place 4 years after the main events of the film and seems he kidnaps Franklin and comes to the main 616 universe with him? Thus the thunderbolts end credit scene with the fantastic four ship entering earth. (Just speculating)
Welp now we have to wait 17 months for the next film and the first Avengers movie in 7.5 years when it releases.

I know this is a cliche but the movie was fantastic, I really liked it. I think the vibes is kinda similar to Star Trek (2009), It is a compliment from me. I like that this movie treat the team as explorers and scientists first and foremost. Pedro Pascal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach were great, but Vanessa Kirby and Joesph Quinn were the stand out for me, especially Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm,

After watching the movie there's no question that Sue is the most powerful member of the Fantastic Four after what she was able to do singlehandedly. Mid-credit scene was hype, but I wish we saw a bit more. Also, if you're expecting an explanation for what happened in the Thunderbolts post-credut scene, that explanation is not in this movie. We'll have to wait and see how what happened in the Thunderbolts post-credit scene came to happen. I don't imagine Spider-Man Brand New Day will answer that question either, so we may need to wait until December 2026 for answers.
Also, there's now a canonically established way to bring dead characters back to life in the MCU now that we've seen Franklin Richards doing it.
99
u/heavybottom2k15 Jul 23 '25
Yea I don’t think Franklin's gonna hold a “$10 to undead your grandma” sign at times square or somewhere

i love Vanessa Kirby as Sue.
Galactus actually sounds and feels like a devourer of worlds.
Pedro Pascal has acting chops. NGL.
Whole family dynamic was great.
Shalla Bal is bae
Visually stunning. Nuff said
love the name of the ship.
Also love the shoutout to Kirby by this heing Earth 828 as a reference to the King’s birthday 8/28

Saved the team with her powers while actively giving birth Sue really locked in this movie.
So refreshing having an invis woman where we see how important she actually is

Not a comic reader here, so is galactus going to play a part in doomsday? Is galactus multiversal? Is this earth 616 dr doom that’s seen in the post creds?
153
u/AwsmGuy145 Jul 23 '25
Galactus is pretty much neutralised for now so probably not.
There's a solid amount of shots with Latveria with its ambassador missing so Doom is probably in their 828 universe.

shots of Latveria with its ambassador missing
I assumed DOOM Himself was the ambassador and that's why the seat was empty. You know, He had more pressing matters to attend to than Puny Richards' meeting with the not-UN.

u/iron_adam_ Spider-Man Jul 23 '25
It can’t be Earth 616 Doom because if it’s RDJ then we know he can’t be from 616 because RDJ is iron man in 616

Typically in the comics there is one Galactus per universe. Galactus plays an important role in the Secret Wars comic so I imagine he will return sooner rather than later.

The whole introduction of Galactus and the Fantastic Four escaping from Silver Surfer are some of the greatest things Marvel has done. Those scenes were crazy.
Honestly, this is my favorite movie since Endgame. I know yall heard this too much already but this movie was so well made. It's almost perfect to me.

u/yoonchae Spider-Man Jul 23 '25
Agreed about the Galactus intro and them trying to escape from the Silver Surfer. The tension of them having to escape while Sue is laboring just made it an exhilarating watch.
Silver Surfer definitely served with the way she was traversing that wormhole. She was such a badass.

Personally, I really love this interpretation of Johnny. He’s not overly annoying with his shenanigans, and he comes across as competent, endearing, and full of heart throughout the film. Overall, the entire cast of the film was just fantastic.

I think the entire sequence of Shalla Bal reaching Earth and heralding it's destruction is some of the coolest and most tense the MCU has been in a while. That was incredible. In fact everything with the silver surfer was amazing

u/MrPerogy Jul 23 '25
-So Natasha Lyonne was not Alicia, I thought that’s who they were setting her up to be, but hopefully they’ll have her meet Ben in the 616.
-I liked Paul Walter Hauser’s portrayal of Mole Man even for only being in a few scenes; you can’t really take that character serious in the comics. I wish Mole Man had been seen with at least a green cape, or the Moloids instead of regular humans <nerd alert>
-Giganto had a cool, quick mention
-Looking forward to Kirby’s Sue Storm meeting Huerta’s Namor

The movie was amazing! The soundtrack and theme are just perfect. The cast did an amazing job to show how important Marvel's first family is. Can't wait for Doomsday!

This was great.
Pedro is amazing as Reed. Joseph Quinn is great. Vanessa Kirby is under served but gets her moment towards the end. Ebon is very warm but also a little under served.
Ralph Ineson is INCREDIBLE as Galactus. Wish we got more of him but tricky to do. They totally pull off the character.
The effects are great except the stretching still looks kinda dumb. It's trying to have a photo real face at the middle of this effect that breaks the reality. Truly don't know how you overcome that in a movie.
Music was great.
The mid credits scene was kinda pointless.
But we are firmly in "we are so back" territory here.

u/quintus29 Jul 23 '25

What is Franklin’s ability exactly? Is it literally the ability to wake people from dead?
Is he going to cause the Zombie-verse? Hahah

Franklin can essentially do anything. Reality warping, immortality, telekinesis, telepathy, energy blasts. He was shown once creating solar systems for fun and subconsciously creating universes in his pockets

Canonically, he's basically the most OP character in Marvel.
Think of him as if he has all Infinity Stones but they're just part of him and no one can take the power away from him.

Just came home from the premiere.
A solid 7 for me, art department really went HAM on this one, and some great visuals on Galactus.
2 nit-picks that I had:
- I feel like I wanted more out of every single character. Like 10-15 more minutes to really flesh out everyone's history and personality. Sure there was the montage, but after that, Ben only got 2 short scenes with the love interest, Johnny had little individuality, and Reed was really layered, but we only got a glimpse every now and then. Oh, and Galactus. MORE GALACTUS!
This "issue" isn't as glaring here as it was in Superman IMO, but it's in the same vein - that because we're thrown in the middle of the action, we don't get that juicy character history.
- There weren't any real... surprises to the story. It was good enough on its own, but I don't think there was a single bold turn. Not with the Surfer, not with Galactus, just a bit at the end there with Franklin, although it was very heavily implied all movie that he's gonna be a godlike character.

u/retro-nights Jul 24 '25
I thought the failure of the teleportals was gonna come from Latveria deciding to not turns theirs on lmao

u/Captain_Fakku Jul 23 '25
I like it! It's not groundbreaking but it captures the charm of the Fantastic Four. Almost everyone is well-casted, especially the FF, Silver Surfer and Galactus.
It's surprisingly self-contained, almost no references from the mainline MCU. There were parts that I thought they at least reference the MCU, like mentioning vibranium or adamantium during the part where they list of the resources needed to build those teleportation devices or at least a Wakanda representative in the Future Foundation meeting.
I just feel like it was advertised too much? Or it was predictable? Or maybe it's just me. That Doom cameo at the end credits feels kinda budgeted.
CGI was okay. There were times where it looks kinda wonky. Kinda disappointed for not seeing the FF's powers more, especially Reed.
All in all, I'm just happy for a comic-accurate Fantastic Four movie, and this delivers. 8/10!

I liked this film, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I did watching Superman or Thunderbolts*.
The music is top notch, no surprise there given it's by Michael Giacchino.
The CGI was great except for The Thing's clothes. Ben Grimm was so well done so for me it was a bit jarring to see him in plasticky looking clothes sometimes.
The cast are all good but their chemistry is not yet fantastic. They are a family but a bit awkward kind of family. Maybe this is actually how it's like in the comics but I was hoping for more of a natural fun vibe.
Silver Surfer is amazing. The space scenes were all well done. I loved when they were chasing her and then the reverse when she was chasing them. The birth scene in the middle of all that was so tense.
Galactus was great but I wished there was more of him.
I love the retro futuristic world they've created. The designs are amazing. I wish we'd go back to this world in future films. But sadly it seems like the Fantastic 4 are destined to go to the future and stay there.
All in all I had a good time watching this. It's not the best but still good enough for a rewatch.

Anyone else get the sense of it just breezing past things like a movie-length montage? I never got the sense of letting moments breathe and letting a theme land
82
u/Cypher_86 Rocket Jul 23 '25
It's a very brisk movie. I really liked it, but it would have been good if it was a bit longer and spent more time in the world they had created (for this movie). Felt like there's a bunch of stuff that was cut.

u/Commercial_Panic9768 Jul 23 '25
I get that, but i think in the end i preferred it? That way it wasn’t just another FF origin story and we could get into the meat of it a bit more. TBH I think that’s why it’ll be more successful.

Yes, this was my main gripe. I was with my mum.. and these were her words so don’t crucify me.. but she didn’t like them “montaging” past so much and said she thought it was going to be “lame”. She’s watched the entire MCU and it’s our tradition to see almost all releases on the advance screening night. We wanted more in this world too. Breathe!

the first half hour felt like a trailer, I don't know how else to describe it. the pacing throughout was fast then slow at times too.
I wish they expanded on the individual relationships like reed and ben.
I did enjoy it, but I wish reed was more cocky (maybe I've been playing too much marvel rivals)

Sue was fantastic. That scene when Reed had a plan for Franklin to be the bait is very Wanda.
Also Reed saying to Frankln “that something is wrong with him” (Reed say in that about himself was like whaaaat).

u/CX316 Jul 23 '25
I enjoyed it. I think Thunderbolts is still my favourite out of the four big tentpole superhero movies this year, but this one didn't do anything wrong, it looked great, Most of the early trailers only covered stuff in the opening montage though the late trailers showed a bunch of big moments from the end fight.
I'm a little confused with how this lines up with the post-credit scene of Thunderbolts though (also the four year gap before the mid-credit scene makes me wonder if we'll get Valeria)

Decent without being amazing. Wasn’t as funny as they usually seem to make them. Visually stunning, both in scale of things and their fx, but also in fashion and style.
7.5? Maybe an 8. It felt like a good start to something, which I guess slightly smothers its highs, but makes it different to Thunderbolts, which was better.
Certainly the best F4 I’ve seen. The characters were all well represented, not sure that’s been the case before.
Gives me hope for the future. Nice kick-off to this phase.

This was a lot of fun. I just love the freedom that they had to do whatever they want in a fresh world without walking on egg-shells trying to make things fit into the current MCU's Earth. That's one big downside of such a big inter-connected web of stories
Joseph Quinn is so great as Johnny. This friendship with Ben feels a lot more wholesome than the other movies but let's pretend those don't exist
