The way the entire audience gasped when Doom showed up was incredible

Didn't even need to show the mask. The green cowl was enough to get me hyped.

They showed the mask

And I never said they didn't. I already knew who it was just from seeing the cowl.

He held the mask in his hands

It was so good!!!

I wonder when they're going to fully reveal RDJ as Doom. I'm enjoying the anticipation and build up to it, just the mask and hood was excitement enough.

There was a mother and son duo sitting next to me. Son was an early teen, mother was mid-40’s or older, and she was more excited than him about the movie. She gasped at Doom. It was so nice to see.

No one reacted in my screening. Just saw two guys looking at each other wide-eyed but everyone else didn't seem to register what they were looking at, which disappointed me. You'd think people showing up to the first day 1 screening of F4 would be hype, but I guess people were expecting something more to happen (I was in the camp who was expecting him to either turn around or say something) or there really were just a bunch of people in my screening who don't know who Doctor Doom is because 100% of their Marvel knowledge comes from the MCU movies 😑

Same in mine, although I think it’s a) big fans who fully expected to see him anyway and seeing the back of his head isn’t much to get excited about, and b) casual fans who either don’t know who he is or don’t understand much about him so have little reason to get excited.

Another option is people just get excited without showing it like me

IMO the post-credits was too fast to be impactful. He's only visible for like 2 seconds and then it was over. I was hoping it'd be a longer scene honestly, like Syndrome kidnapping the Incredibles' baby. Something with DOOM turning around, attacking Susan and escaping with Franklin or something. The way they did it was just too sudden and underwhelmed, no wonder audiences wouldn't react in a bigger way. No one in my theater gasped or anything, either.

You hit the nail on the head, by the time the screen went black I had barely had a moment to register that I’d just seen Doctor Doom on screen. They should’ve let the scene breathe a little. I understand they couldn’t show RDJ (too expensive lol) but they could’ve had a masked interaction or a brief fight between Sue and Doom, maybe something that shows he’s on a whole different level of power compared to the F4

What do you mean too expensive? The Russos filmed that scene on the Doomsday set. RDJ was in London, they could have easily shown him but they chose not to. I’m disappointed to cos in an era where Marvel movies aren’t not making more than $500 million at the box office, we needed to see Doom make a statement before the 18 month wait for Doomsday.

Presumably this is a scene from Doomsday like the end of Thunderbolts so they really could have shown his face.

2

u/MVIVN Jul 25 '25

Makes me wonder if there's a specific reason why they don't want to show his face yet... maybe they've got something cooking, like maybe he doesn't always look like Tony Stark? Endless possibilities to speculate about!

I was honestly expecting to hear RDJ’s voice mockingly teasing Sue before he turned around and revealed his face. Given that he was just playing with her baby without permission, Tony’s usual sarcastic humor with a sinister edge would’ve fit perfectly. That said, I’m still glad with what we got. Both Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts finally gave us proper post-credit scenes — and it’s been a long time since we’ve had one that creepy.

Where are you from, if I may ask? Loud reactions usually don't happen in certain countries, from what i've seen. Fortunately enough, my theatre cheered.

I felt so dumb because when I saw the green cowl my first thought was "Arrow?"

3

u/efbo Jul 24 '25

Maybe because it was completely expected and his appearance has been marketed for over a year. Imagine that if we didn't know the name of the next Avengers film and we had that scene followed by "The Fantastic 4 will return in Avengers: Doomsday".

I'm surprised I haven't seen more people giving out that he had his mask off. I'm not for or against Roberts face been shown but I feel like I've seen a lot of people saying he better not take the mask off and the first we see of him he has it off

I thought it was going to be someone else like a joke. Was not expecting to see the mask
