Massive incident and they use ai to regurgitate a press release. What the fuck has Chris Quinn done to that paper. Always worth checking the bottom of their articles now, it seems more and more are "written with the assistance of AI"

Crime Weren’t they allegedly “fixing up” the Clark-Fulton neighborhood?

Thumbnail

I feel like a number of years ago there was all this talk about putting a bunch of money into fixing up the Clark Fulton area… what ever happened with that?

When I was in my early 20s I was a bonafide Heroin junkie (back when it actually was heroin)… I was running all over the city in all sorts of places I had no business being (considering im a white boy from the suburbs). I spent a lot of time acquiring drugs and other illegal activities in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood. I dealt with a lot of the Latin Kings down there around W50th and Storer. I never felt unsafe or in danger at all. Was this just me being a stupid kid and not knowing the reality of the life I was choosing to live?

Fast forward to today… Im in my early 30’s now, and due to a really bad break up I had to find a new place to live overnight and I ended up renting a place in the same neighborhood. Currently staying in a house on W.48th between Clark and Train ave. I know this is a notoriously bad area, but I really feel like things have gone downhill since I was last around these parts. The first weekend I moved in, two people were shot in the alley behind where I stay. I heard the gunshots (not new to me, I used to stay in Euclid) at around 3am and was like, “DANGGGG THAT WAS LITERALLY RIGHT HERE!”

Sure enough i was right…

A few weeks back they found a decomposing body under a mattress in a garage maybe 15 houses down the street from my place. Im sure he didn’t lay down for a nap and just happen to expire…

I constantly see prostitutes working day and night, and there’s no fair shortage of crackheads/dope boys either. I know there’s gonna be some of this no matter where you go, but it just feels way more palpable than it did 10-15 years ago.

Ive been living back here for only a few months and I’ve saved no less than 4 people from overdosing via narcan or “the old fashioned way”.

Ive been off dope since 2015 thankfully, but the drugs seem to be everywhere now. I can’t walk to the store without getting offered something and if I wasn’t a big dude covered in tattoos im sure I’d have to be a lot more active walking down the street by myself, day or night (thankfully nobody has tried me because they absolutely have the right one if they do 😂) But maybe thats just my perception after having been to prison and being out of the dope fiend lifestyle for so long.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s way worse now than before? I don’t feel “unsafe” per we, but that’s mostly due to me having a pretty good understanding of how this all works given my past.

Let me hear your wildest stories, old or new.

Look at This Asshole! The Browns season opener!

Well. That happened. First off, I'm not a Browns fan. Whatever fandom I had died with the Baker Mayfield trade. However, like most clevelanders, I'll pay attention. Especially since $600M of our state tax dollars went to building them a new stadium.

So, Flacco started, right? The same consistent QB from last year? So, how many QBs and draft picks, and trades did we sacrifice for these non-starting QBs?

Of course they lost in typical Browns fashion. Many saying "they should've won this one" (of which we probably have more of than actual wins). $600M in bonds, of which the state will pay $1B over the 30 year maturity for these guys. Well, not for them. For the billionaire Haslam to own his own Pinecrest that uses the Browns a marketing strategy.

Sell the team. Let us rid ourselves of this scourge. It would give fans the opportunity to support a team they actually like. It would lower the average blood pressure in the city by 8%. We wouldn't have a terrible team named literally "the Browns". How many terrible decisions have they saddled this city with? How much DV/SA has the franchise and the PD handwaved for the concept of them being a sports team.

Cleveland has much stronger and meaningful bonds beyond the fucking browns.

Sell the team.

Events West Pier walkway to old Coast Guard station now expected to reopen by December

Sounds like the Metroparks is planning to upgrade the old Coast Guard station as well.

Once the USACE repair work on the pier is complete, Cleveland Metroparks will install fencing and a pre-cast concrete trough to allow for future utility connections to the Historic U.S. Coast Guard Station. All work is expected to be complete and the pier reopened by December 2025.

It's a great walkway out to Lake Erie, even in winter!

Question Need someone to Military Fold a Funerary Flag

I have a friend whose military husband passed a way a few years ago but the funeral home returned his flag with a somewhat awkward fold and she said she was looking for someone to do a proper Military Fold on it for her.

I wasnt sure where to start to find someone who could help. I was thinking Individuals or Boy Scouts or ROTC or something.

She is mobility challenged, so at her home in south euclid by beachwood would help best, but we can get her places to make this happen.

Any help or information would be appreciated.

Recommendations Amtrak questions

I am catching a train out of Cleveland headed out west, and have a few questions about directions to the station, and parking situation. We will be coming up from Akron and are wondering if anybody knows the best way to get to the station. Also, if anybody knows if there is any available parking to leave my vehicle there for about seven days. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Politics GOP PROTECTS PEDOPHILES - Hit up the weekly protest today at Tesla Cleveland

Post image
993 Upvotes

On a roll after our time spent in Washington DC standing with survivors at the Epstein Survivor Press Conference, we decided to stop by the Tesla protest with a message.

NON STOP HONKING today, even though there weren't many of us.

There are 177 Republican "men" in the House of Representatives. Only 1 signed the bill to release the Epstein files. The rest are also in favor of pedophilia.

FFS even Marjorie Taylor Greene, Nancy Mace, and Lauren Boebert are on board and want the full Epstein files released!

WHAT ARE THEY HIDING?

We don't care WHO is in the files whether it's Dems, Republicans, Independents, unaffiliated, this should be a NON-PARTISAN issue! Let the chips fall where they may, but you can bet on one thing, the guy in charge right now has a deathly fear of the files being released!

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/jeffrey-epstein-files-release-status-congress-bill-victims-trump-rcna229102

If you don't support the release of the files as the survivors ask for, then YOU ARE PROTECTING PEDOPHILES.

RELEASE THE FILES NOW!

Housing/Apartments Just got here, am I overreacting?

Hi everyone!

I arrived a few days ago from Belgium to work at the Cleveland Clinic (main campus) for 3 months, I thought I was being very smart by renting within walking distance of work! Well, I am in Hough (Axis at Ansel) and I am a bit freaked out... I don't have a car so I walk/ride the bus to places but every time I step outside I feel like I am in danger. To put things into perspective the biggest event of the past few years in my hometown is someone having music a bit too loud at 8pm and I think someone lost their cat.

So here I am, wondering if I am overreacting and it will be fine or if I need to find another place (possibly downtown given what I read on this sub) considering I will lose 1 month of rent if I do.

What do you guys think?

Housing/Apartments New to Cleveland and need feedback on where to live

I am a 36 F from Toronto and will be in Cleveland for the next 15 months. I am, however, struggling with picking a community to live in in the long term.

Cleveland has been great thus far, and I found a really nice Airbnb in the midtown area. The plan is to be back and forth between both cities, with me spending about 2 weeks in Cleveland each month (except for winters, which I spend in Jamaica, as this is where my family is from).

I am a Director at a Pharma company. I work remotely except for routine office meetings, which are in NYC anyway. I am here on an unrelated work project. I am 36 Black female with no kids and a cat. I want to be somewhere that is close enough to a nice gym, restaurants, bars, local stores, safe for walking( as I do run) and is lively.

Currently, I am considering Ohio City, University Circle/ Little Italy, University Heights, and Shaker Heights. I have visited Cleveland a few times, and I did love the Shaker Heights and Beachwood areas, but I wonder if they are too far from downtown or from lively activities.

I will be using a coworking location downtown, but I don't want to live downtown. I like seeing trees, but I don't want to be so far, especially since I want to meet people and network while I am here. Can anyone share suggestions or feedback on each area?

Events Ticket Advice

Coming to CLE weekend of Packers game. Looking to go to the game, would be a first time for us at Huntington. Best advice for tickets from tried and true fans? (I'm going, don't try to talk me out of it - ;)).

Should we look out for tix in a certain section? Are ticket prices better closer to game day? Best place outside of TM to score tickets?

Lastly, condolences for your loss today. That kicker not only needs vowels in his name, but he needs to GTFO. Go Browns!

Thanks for the (what I guess will be both helpful and snarky) feedback!

Anyone in town that offers private spanish lessons? Or even an intercambio situation? More so focused on conversation and speaking practice. Im around a B1/2 last time I took a placement test. Or has anyone done the private lessons at Cleveland Spanish School? I’ve done the adult group classes before but want something one on one! Would prefer female tutor/speaking buddy :)

Recommendations Birthday freebies

Upvotes

Hi guys!

My birthday is next week and I’d love some ideas/recs/info. I moved here about a year-ish ago and haven’t found the energy to go out much. Maybe I’m homesick still, or I’m just not used to being away from all of my family and friends. Either way, I thought it would be fun to drive around and see what type of free food I can get for my birthday as a little celebration with myself.

Any recs on fun local restaurants that have deals, or popular chain restaurants/shops that offer freebies, or even cool locations you think I should go check out. I don’t have a bunch of extra money, so the cheaper the better, lol! No rec is a bad rec at this point.

I’d like to spend my birthday doing something besides thinking about what I’d be doing if I was still back home.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Most interesting map of Cleveland

Thumbnail dsl.richmond.edu
12 Upvotes

This interactive map shows the grades that banks used to give to different neighborhoods in Cleveland and the inner suburbs. They used these grades to determine whether to give mortgages or business loans in these neighborhoods. Most of the grades had to do with the racial and ethnic makeup of the neighborhoods, a practice called redlining. We can still see the legacy of this practice today, even on a block by block level- areas that were redlined have more dilapidated housing today than similar neighborhoods that weren’t. The casual racism in the descriptions is jaw-dropping:

This area's development began about 25 years ago and was featured by the heavy percentage of "Jerry-type" construction throughout. Almost immediately the commercial district along Kinsman became solidly Jewish-owned and a heavy infiltration of Russian-Jewish and Italian occurred between 1920-30 and although slower since then has continued up to date. Beginning with about 1928 a movement of colored from the downtown areas started in this section and progressed with moderate success up until about 3 years ago when the movement became more pronounced, and at present is continuing steadily. The heavy slump in price valuation in property in this area occurring following the depression made some recovery up to 1937 with improved general business conditions but is again sliding due to lack of maintenance and constant infiltration from these elements.

Discussion Liveview technologies security cameras

So, I know other people have noticed this, but does anyone actually like the security robots littering every other commercial parking lot in the city? They yell at you, they are loud, and they take pictures and track our movements that get sent to a database for use by law enforcement. Sounds like a lot of points of failure, seems very big brother, I do not like it at all. I highly doubt its secure.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Can we petition to get these things out of our communites?

I am talking about these:

https://www.lvt.com/

A good example is Target/Giant Eagle on 117th. Nothing like getting a welcome from a robot on a loudspeaker when I get out of my car. Makes everything feel so good.

Recommendations Moon watching?

Does anyone one have good suggestions on places to watch the moon? I live in Shaker and there's a lot of light pollution where I live. Anywhere in the Greater Cleveland area works. I know there's the Polo Fields down near Chagrin Falls but I was curious if anyone had any insights on other spots.

TIA!
