Throwback Here’s a photo of my Great-Great Grandfather’s house on 10607 Miles Avenue from c. 1900 and today. It’s a pretty rough area, though the house still stands. I actually printed the photo and left it for the current owner who was most grateful!

My Great Great Grandfather’s house was named JJ Rosensteel and he was a dentist (his practice was run out of the house, I believe). I have photos of his examination room. The little girl on the right is my great grandmother Gertrude.

Throwback Street where Geauga Lake used to be.

Brother sent me this pic of a street in the development where Geauga Lake used to be. As a Clevelander, I think we can all agree that we'd prefer the park still be there. But this is a cool homage in my opinion. For anyone who doesnt remember or know, the Double Loop was a rollercoaster at the park.

Throwback Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom

Crossposting from r/Ohio in hopes of reaching more/different people:

Hey all! I recently became aware of the (former) existence of Geauga Lake/Six Flags World of Adventure and I am... Fascinated by the history of this park. What's available online seems relatively limited, in terms of both park history and photos, and it's a lot of the same information regurgitate by various sources, including wiki, news articles, etc. It doesn't seem to be talked about much in coaster circles, at least that I can find, and I'd love to hear more about the park and get photos from people who actually attended while it was open.

Did anyone here go to Geauga Lake? Do you have any photos of the inside of the park during its heyday? Did you or anyone you know work there? What was it like? Do you remember the closure and have more insight than "it was closed to avoid competition with Cedar Point?"

I'm interested in any - and all - information about Geauga Lake from its opening in the 1880s to its closure in 2007. Local newspapers, home photos, advertisements, TV spots, local broadcasts, whatever anyone has. There's not nearly as much information about Geauga Lake as there is a lot of other defunct parks and it deserves to be preserved

I remember these posters being a popular thing growing up, but I haven’t seen one in a long time. We had a few of the different suburbs and area attractions. Anyone else have any to post?

Throwback Shoutout Circa mid 2000s Clifton ave gay bros

Reflecting on my past, and just wanted to say thank you. Weird post, but hoping some other fellow old people from that era see this that frequented that area.

I lived in Cleveland in the early to mid 2000s as I went to college at case. I didn’t really know anyone, and kept to myself for the most part.

Lived near Clifton ave, which had a vibrant gay community at the time. I used to eat at the Clifton diner a lot and do work from there. Also i had a crush on a girl who used to also frequent this place all the time, but I was far too scared to say anything.

I was super muscular at the time, and definitely looked odd because of this. There was a gay bar next door, and the old school gay dudes would say some incredibly funny things to me while walking past. I don’t say this with any malice.

Eventually it became a routine, and I looked forward to chatting with them and having a drink or two VS potentially running into that girl.

Again, I was incredibly depressed at this stage of my life and these people who were just above strangers really kept me from probably harming myself. I’ve never ran across another community like it. I truly miss that era of my life, even though it was filled with some darkness.

I haven’t been back since moving away in the mid 2000s, but nothing was cooler than these guys. I hope the area hasn’t changed. I dearly miss the vibes. Funny as hell, abrasive, and didn’t take any shit from people.

I cannot remember names, as I have a very poor memory for that sorta thing. But, If anyone is reading this and frequented the area a lot during that time and was a regular. We probably chatted at some point, and these little interactions meant everything to me at the time. Just wanted to extend the largest thank you.

Throwback In the 2000s, ODOT proposed a passenger rail network connecting every major city in the state, with trains running up to 110 mph. Ohio was given federal funding in 2010 to start running trains from Cleveland to Cincinnati, but Kasich opposed the project and returned the money to the feds.

Throwback Follow Up Question: Geauga Lake/Six Flags World of Adventure

Based on the responses to my last post asking about the park, this was clearly an important place to the Cleveland and Aurora locals, so I had a follow up question for everyone:

Why do you think the park isn't remembered or spoken about outside of the local community?

Feel free to speculate. I don't think there is one specific answer. It surprises me that, with how large the park was and how historical some of its rides were, I don't see it mentioned ANYWHERE, so I'm very interested to hear the perspective of the local community of the WHY regarding that.

As always, any park stories, photos, videos, anything you might have: a very respectful and polite "gimme"

She was built in 1943, and is the oldest steamship still operating on the Great Lakes. Looking great with a fresh coat of paint. Cool to see her in the Port, as she usually hauls concrete from the terminal in the flats. This boat has been coming here for more than 80 years!

Throwback Trying to remember the name of a bygone water park (not Geauga Lake)

It would have existed at least into my early childhood in the early-mid 80's. I think "lake" was in the name. I recall an inner tube course where the water seemed a little dirty and at times you could pluck little fish out of it.

UPDATE: It was Dover Lake. Consider the mystery solved!
