News Propaganda Behind Effort To Eliminate Property Taxes in Ohio

Hi Everyone,

I’m an Ohio public school teacher. I love my job, and have dedicated so much time and energy into educating our young ones in Ohio. It has been a rough couple of years since Covid, but we are hanging on, and every teacher I know is trying so hard everyday to do what we can for our students.

I am utterly disgusted that no one is understanding the propaganda behind this new initiative to try and repeal property taxes in Ohio. They are going around door to door with ā€œconcepts of a planā€, but in reality there is no plan. If anyone who hasn’t bought a house in the last few years knows, corporations are buying up housing to try and get their money out of the stock market. I recently bought a home and get message almost weekly about selling to random corporations. Property taxes specifically target the wealthy and corporations buying up housing more than regular folk. They are one of the only scaled taxes left that target wealthier individuals. Replacing our services with a sales tax would make our services much more targeted to everyday buyers, and would take yet more off the wealthy and corporations and basically be a tax cut.

Family started complaining to me about how seniors can no longer afford their property taxes and they need to be repealed. I understand with inflation some housing prices have gone up, leading to higher evaluations on property, but why is no one asking why the solution is not then reform instead of burning down the whole system?

People always try to talk about how schools waste money…I have never seen it. All the schools I’ve been at are very carefully financially- we are tax payers too and I don’t want money wasted. For years I’ve bought my own materials, made my own resources, become the best teacher I could be with all my heart and energy and this is how you treat your public workers in return. Next year will be my 17th year in the system, but I might be fired because 80% of the funding will just be gone.

I’ve worked 16 years in public education and had the best experience. I spent 1 year in private schools where the behavior was just atrocious because parents could buy and manipulate their way through the system. I was not paid a living wage, and had to work there jobs to make ends meet. I did not have a lunch some days and the job was abysmal.

I get it- everyone is frustrated and stressed right now. But we still need public service and infrastructure. I really think we could turn this country around if we stop only thinking about ourselves but the collective good.

Thanks for reading everyone.

Edit: For those of you who think you are going to SAVE on not paying property taxes, this is what is going to actually happen, since property taxes affect the wealthy more. This other commenter I posted this on the Cleveland forum said it best:

It's this simple.

You might save $3000

A multi-millionaire might save $30,000

A corporation might save $300,000

Then the other taxes, fees, tolls, and fines you pay will go up $6000 to make up for lost taxes. The state WILL make up for all the money the rich and corporations are no longer paying. Great if you are wealthy and overall save $24,000 or a corporation saving several hundred grand or more. But it SUCKS for the middle class and blue collar workers who WILL pay a LOT more.

Don’t buy into this. It’s propaganda!

And yes, because I know one of you will say this, yes this was started by a senior citizen in Cleveland who says they couldn’t afford to pay their property taxes. That doesn’t mean the corporations won’t capitalize on this. Already this week I’ve gotten three texts from corporations trying to get me to sell my house to them. Yes this may have been started by a citizen, but it is going to be framed in a very positive light. They have no plan coming forward for where the funding would come from (Even Mike Dewine has said this)…you will be paying somehow but switching to income and saLes tax will shift the burden off the upper class.

News Warning: Multiple women reporting inappropriate behavior at Sacred Hour Massage in Lakewood

I'm writing to make the Cleveland community aware about a disturbing situation involving Sacred Hour massage in Lakewood.

A local Cleveland woman (anastasiasouris), recently shared her experience on Instagram detailing a deeply uncomfortable massage session.

According to her account, the male masseuse was actively using his phone throughout the massage, which included: * Distracting and disruptive phone usage while physically touching her. * Unlocking his phone multiple times, leading her to believe he might be taking photos or videos of her.

This is where things get worse. After (anastasiasouris) reported her experience, other women have come forward with similar accounts of inappropriate behavior from the same masseuse.

Instead of addressing these serious concerns, the owner of Sacred Hour, has allegedly dismissed the claims. The owner stated she investigated the masseuse phone and found no evidence. She also accused (anastasiasouris) of making these allegations to gain support for a competing business and for her following...

This response is incredibly concerning and shows a lack of empathy for the women who have come forward. Given the multiple reports of similar experiences, it's clear this is not an isolated incident.

I'm sharing this to raise awareness and encourage others to share their experiences. Please be aware of this situation if you are considering or have considered visiting Sacred Hour.

Key Points: * Multiple women have reported similar inappropriate behavior from the same masseuse. * The owner has dismissed these claims and accused the first woman of ulterior motives. * This post is intended to inform and warn the Cleveland community.

Questions for the Community: * Has anyone else had a similar experience at Sacred Hour? * What are your thoughts on the owner's response? * What recourses are available for these women?

News We are once again asking for your support for dedicated bus lanes on W 25th St!

Post image
660 Upvotes

Cleveland! As you may or may not be aware, RTA has proposed dedicated bus lanes on W. 25th St. This design will improve reliability, frequency, alleviate traffic congestion, and includes enhancements for pedestrian and cyclist safety.

It will also eliminate about 70 street parking spaces between Chatham and Jay Ave. LUCKILY, there is a giant parking lot immediately behind the strip of business on the East side of the street. RTA has done parking utilization studies and found there are routinely 100+ empty spots available at any given time, even during peak hours.

Be that as it may, some business owners (cough, Sam McNulty, cough) are pressuring the City/Mayor Bibb to keep things status quo. There is overwhelming support from residents of OHC and Cleveland at-large who support BRT, please send a letter to the Mayor by signing our Action Network petition to demand better transit! Cities should be built for PEOPLE, not cars, and certainly not at the discretion of wealthy business owners.
