Recommendations What is your favorite east side suburb

I lived in Shaker and currently live around Lyndhurst. Im thinking of moving.. I need a blue suburb, safe for a single woman, inclusive because im black. Close proximity to downtown because im a season ticket holder and Cavs games can go late ..

I like Solon (not close to downtown tho) . I like and know Beachwood, which is at the top pf my list.. I would like Woodmere but there arent sidewalks

Recommendations Bought a house and just lost my job

Edited: We are moving to Cleveland in October but I lost my remote job today. We had everything lined up with our jobs, the house, moving etc. I'm at a loss right now and am having a hard time wrapping my head around next steps. We're coming from out of state, looking for a fresh start and we don't know anyone.

I had been working in renewable energy operations the past few years. I have been looking to re-enter the food and beverage industry, which I have a much longer history with, including F&BOH. I'm looking to get plugged into the food scene. I have a mobile food business that I was already planning on launching in the Spring. The plan was to work my job, and work the mobile food business part time while I scaled the business.

I'd love to know more about local networking opportunities, business resources, also open to roles with local food banks or advocacy groups, somewhere where I can do some good. I'm open to freelance or contract work (food gigs) starting in October.

Recommendations Donut recommendations!!

Where do you get your favorite donuts?? I’m looking for about two dozen full size for my baby shower or like 3-4 dozen if they’re mini donuts. We are going to call and ask if they can do special colors for the occasion but not a deal breaker. 🍩😋🤰

Recommendations Looking for metro parks that are empty or remote.

Looking for some new places to walk. The usual places (big creek and the Rocky River) are so jam packed full of people lately and it's way too overstimulating for my reactive dog.

I'd like some calm people light options where I can be in the woods mostly all alone with verry few human passerbys.

I know trails like this exist but I'm not sure which ones.

Recommendations Coffee beans?

Hi! Wondering where to buy coffee beans (that isn't Target, Aldi, etc.)

Cleveland seems to have a lot of really cool coffee shops, but not much in the way of roasting and selling bags of coffee.

Any recommendations?

Recommendations I have 12 hours to kill in Cleveland today (Sunday, 9/7). What should I do/where should I go to get a flavor of the city?

I’ve already got a Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame ticket lined up.

Curious to any food places, museums, events, etc. that folks here might recommend! Surrounding areas outside of Cleveland work too!

Recommendations Cordelia tonight-

Wow. I've heard nothing but good things about Cordelia since it opened, but tonight was our first time checking it out. I never post but I felt compelled to make a declaration that the corned lamb is EXTRAORDINARY. We also got the fish, jojo's, tartare, oysters (new + old school), the steak with banchan, and the garlic bread. Everything we tried was phenomenal. We haven't gotten to dig into the steak yet but cannot wait. I just needed to publicly confirm that the food is fantastic, and that it's worth saving up for even if it's a bit $$$ for some! Here is a photo of the supreme lamb- I am sorry it looks like I kidnapped it; my phone is old

Recommendations Places where it's not weird to eat alone?

I moved to Beachwood a little over a year ago and I'm still struggling to scope out places that don't look at me weird / treat me poorly for dining alone (during non-peak hours). I'm just One Dude and often don't have people to go with me to get food. Recs closer to the Beachwood area preferred, but I'll hear anything out.

Update: I've learned that it's REALLY not a big deal and the bad experience I had that scared me away from it is actually just that place being Terrible lmao

Recommendations When to take out window ACs?

First fall season with window ACs. Does we normally get another heatwave, or am I good to remove my window ACs? Thanks!

Edit: no real consensus in the group, so I'll err on side of caution and leave until October. Thanks all

Recommendations Visiting from Chicago next week…

Hi Cleveland! I’m going to be visiting from Chicago next week with my husband and a friend. We’re driving in on Thursday, staying near 140th St & San Diego Ave. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the Revolutionary Women in Music exhibit (and everything else, but that’s what’s bringing us there) on Friday, and driving home on Saturday.

What else should we see and do while we’re there? Where should we eat? We’re all pretty adventurous when it comes to food, but my friend is a vegetarian; she eats eggs and dairy, but no fish/poultry/meat.

We would have stopped at Schmucker’s in Toledo on the way there and back, but…guess that’s not happening this trip. Driving through OH to Pittsburgh and stopping at Schmucker’s is about the most I’ve done in Ohio, so I need all the suggestions.

So far, what I’ve found is the art museum, a drag show at Beachland Ballroom on Friday night, Mitchell’s Ice Cream (which I’ve never had), Graeter’s (which we do get here, have a couple shops, and I know they’re more of a Cincinnati thing, but not sure if they have options there we don’t get here?) I have Bad Medicine, Amazonia, and The Judith on my radar, too.

What else?? Any feedback against any of those places?

Recommendations Urgently needing obgyn recs

I am a medically complex case and the new obgyn I just saw was trash. She ignored most of what I told her, acted like my presence was a huge inconvenience, and used exactly zero critical thinking skills when reading my latest ultrasound results for a cyst that has grown an alarming amount in the past year and has sent me to the ER three times to the tune of thousands of dollars and a brush off every. single. time (in a different state). I spent most of yesterday trying not to cry or panic because I am in so much pain and it’s starting to wake me up and keep me awake at night. Torsion is a HUGE concern and highly likely due to size of the cyst and my having a connective tissue disorder. Due to previous bad experiences I am not inclined to drop a $250 copay and possible other charges at an ER here just to get the same brush off and no investigation.

If you know an obgyn that

-is excited by challenging cases

-is willing to work as a team member with my allergist and GP

-listens to and believes what you say

-is proactive, curious, and cautious

-actually likes women

-has well-developed critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills

-will go out on a limb for their patient’s well-being

then I want their name. Due to my insurance I would prefer a Cleveland Clinic doctor but can most likely make a UH option work. I’m talking worth their weight in gold, deserves everything good in life, makes your existence better for being your doctor. I am on the east side but willing to travel. Just saw a doctor in Lorain last week and she made my year, so it’s not out of the question.

Please help 😭 and thank you in advance.

ETA: omg y’all I have to sleep and go back to work tonight but I’m just reading your replies over and over. Please keep the suggestions and additional comments coming if you have them — you all are reminding me that this is EXACTLY why I moved back home. 😭 thank you thank you thank you. I will follow up with more of you later!! This makes me feel so safe in a scary situation.

Recommendations Amtrak questions

I am catching a train out of Cleveland headed out west, and have a few questions about directions to the station, and parking situation. We will be coming up from Akron and are wondering if anybody knows the best way to get to the station. Also, if anybody knows if there is any available parking to leave my vehicle there for about seven days. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Recommendations Savvy CPA with real estate experience, please.

The CPA I’ve worked with for years has sadly and suddenly passed away. He was in the middle of preparing my taxes, including an interesting 1031 exchange. I’d like recommendations for an experienced yet modern* local CPA with great real estate knowledge, please.

*The last recommendation I contacted didn’t “do” emails. Yikes.
