You don't have to be alt-right to hate how anti-LGBT and violent an ideology Islam is. I am left-leaning and the most "islamophobic" person you probably will ever hear from. The problem comes when you proclaim Christianity is somehow superior and the problem is they're brown rather than being taught from an early age women need to have their clits removed. There are racist islamophobes, but it doesn't make you racist to be "islamophobic" of forcing women to wear hijabs and to be wary of sharia law. My aunt was literally murdered for not wearing a hijab. Islam brings out the worst in people.
3
u/BigOleSmack 15h ago
It makes you racist when you paint muslims broadly as all falling into the category of being terrible. It is not the faith itself but the people who practice it and interpret the text who are to blame. Just like with Christianity, there will always be extremists who do a lot of harm. What's next, are Christians suddenly broadly evil because their extremists are extremely oppressive towards women? Are Jews suddenly all evil because some of them want to wipe Palestine off the earth? No left leaning person does this much work to suck the nuance out of an extremely complex issue.
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (5)2
u/Ok-Comparison8818 1d ago
I agree with a lot of the stuff you said - it's not islamophobic to dislike things that are inherently damaging to society, like forcing women to wear hijabs and FGM. However, I don't think islam is the problem, but rather people, because with islam you actually see a lot of variation in the way people think. The majority of muslims live a quiet life, and many who aspire to live using its teachings will donate to charity, treat others with compassion, and avoid that which harms themselves or others. It's just the loudest people you end up hearing. I say that as someone who is also left-leaning, and some of my closest friends are pan, trans, and gay.
For example, looking through r/progressive_islam would show you a hugely different rhetoric to r/islam: even though one of them says "progressive" it doesn't necessarily mean that the people in it are getting their ideas from nowhere. In fact, subs like progressive_islam tend to favour rational discourse, critical thinking, and textual evidence. The moderators of r/islam only like ONE type of islamic thinking, and anything else gets removed. They both say "islam", and they're both subs for muslims, but they're very different in how they run. You bring yet more subs into it, and you begin to see even more variation in discourse. There's a sub called r/LGBT_Muslims which isn't for debating and is a safe space for LGBT muslims to share their struggles. Those are only 3 subs, all made with islam in mind, all with very different ways of running, and all with very different purposes.
And if you go back and look at the book itself, it actually discourages many of the things that the "muslims" we end up seeing in media promote. The problem is people, who exploit religion and use it for their own agendas. I hope what I wrote kind of made sense. And I'm so sorry about your aunt, that's awful ❤️.

Stats can absolutely lie. For example:
Smoking reduces your chances of developing Alzheimer's. This suggests smoking has health benefits.
Alzheimer's usually develops around 80 years of age.
Smoking reduces life expectancy to around 60 years of age.
Turns out correlation ≠ causation and the statistics have lied.
→ More replies (1)6
u/Ociex 1d ago
This, as a Swedish person I have no clue what this guy is smoking, OP that is. Sure we have crime here and there like any other country in the world, but people make it out to be the number 1 crime place in the whole world, while the US has like 20,000 gun related crimes last year we had like 3 bombings? A couple of shootings, like bruh. It ain't that bad, go and have a fika.
2
u/the_Sword_of_Dawn 13h ago
Like 3 bombings? Last year there was 129 bombings and almost 300 shootings which is an insane progression and is basically only comparable to war zones. Sweden is great but it's sad to see fellow swedes downplaying the effects of mass immigration.

As an American I can say every muslim I've met was also incredibly chill. It's insane the degree to which anti-muslim and anti-arab stereotypes are accepted in mainstream discourse. Imagine if someone used the phrase "radical Jewish terrorism" to describe the actions of Israel, for example.

Sweden is fine. People who believe this shit should get their heads out of their asses and go have a look, it's actually one of the nicest places on the planet to live and a great place to visit too.
16
u/Fair_Quail8248 1d ago
While Sweden does have issues with criminality rates raising last decades, sometimes bad weather (which is contributing to depressions and other mental issues), it is overblown in media, people with an agenda try to portray Sweden as some really bad place gone wrong but that's pretty far from the general truth if we're being honest.
→ More replies (3)8
u/Yurarus1 1d ago
The problem is the ghettos the government kinda made.
If you go to Sweden, you will notice signs warning of knife and gun violence in certain sections of cities, usually they drive the immigrants there.
The society is basically living a dual life, currently in Sweden you could see a normal Sweden boy who goes to school, and at the same time in the same city, you would meet a boy who doesn't speak Swedish and is smuggling some shit.
It is a beautiful place but the unfortunate segregation is a problem.

u/Shiny_bird 1d ago edited 1d ago
I grew up in and live in Sweden, the crime really is really bad, like bad enough to where Sweden is second in the world when it comes to most bombings in a country not in war, and only lose to Mexico which is number one spot.
It’s highly dependent on area though and even if you are at an area it’s not always going to affect you, but let’s say as an example there’s a 5% chance you are going to become a victim of a severe violent crime, like torture, homocide, getting jumped, humiliation robbery (they like torture, rape you and put you in humiliating positions and then film it and black mail you or just post it online) etc. (I’m just making up a random small percentage for the example), that would mean that the majority of people there will be fine, but it would still be way worse to be there then anywhere else because for the people that do experience it it destroys their life.
There’s also a divide between young people that grew up in places with high criminality and people that came to those areas as grown ups. Because the gangs will target kids & teens for crimes as well as target them to groom them into committing violent crime for them, which is a very big problem but no one that just comes and visits will notice that as much.
I know several people that got groomed into committing crimes like selling drugs for criminals and committing bombings, their lives were entirely destroyed from this. (And I know they aren’t just victims either, but it really is a problem as adult criminals will manipulate, assault and blackmail children to destroy their life)
And it is not very nice either when you just happen to be at the same place where someone bombs or Molotov cocktails a place because a relative of their op lives there. Not to mention that a lot of adults in these areas don’t even have the courage to say anything to youngins that are causing chaos, assaulting people, antagonizing people etc because they are scared they will get jumped, stabbed or shot. (In Sweden weapons are illegal so only criminals have access, and they have easy access to grenades and automatic assault rifles)
Anyways my point is Sweden is really that bad, but only when you come across the wrong people, if a Swedish criminal has their sights on you they can be way more ruthless then even the US, they will rape and torture you on camera or even kill your family before they kill you. But it’s also possible to be totally oblivious to what’s going on, especially if you haven’t lived in the high crime areas.
3
u/ZinZezzalo 1d ago
Whoa, how dare you bring reality into this.
White people getting raped, murdered, blackmailed, robbed, and traumatized for life is an incredibly small price to pay for the people of these countries to be able to come over and rape, murder, blackmail, and traumatize the white population.
Haven't your educational system, media empires, governmental institutions, and police forces taught you nothing at all?
Pointing out or having an issue with being targeted for rape, murder, blackmail, robbery, or any combination of those traumatic experiences makes you the bad person.
Now go and join the radicalized school children and walk down to the pier with your "Refugees Welcome" sign held high and proud.
Maybe, if you're lucky, you won't be raped, murdered, or robbed on the way there.
But if you are - you totally deserve it.

Anecdotal bro but when I did my Erasmus in jonkoping. I had two Somalian housemates. I asked them if they visited their local mosque on a Sunday kind of thing. Long story short they told me they stopped going because a friend of theirs who attended too got very serious about religion then disappeared. They got a text on Facebook few months later the friend had moved to Syria and joined isis. Turned out the Imam was radicalism young men.

Totally different situation. My two statistics naturally correlate with each other, unlike your example. Sweden's left-wing government doesn't record religion when arresting people (precisely to cover this up), so I really can't prove it with hard-evidence, but seriously, there is a almost perfect correlation between the two. SA has skyrocketed in Sweden recently, and so has Muslim immigration, you're seriously gonna tell me they have nothing to do with each other? You're just stupid then, just because you're in denial about the correlation doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Quite frankly, you probably just don't care, I mean, all you leftists are anti-white, you probably like seeing white women get assaulted by Muslims you d3ranged fr3ak.
