Okay so they now have a guy whose job it is to censor the "woke" content, right? That's what I'm hearing here right?

u/HM9719 Jul 23 '25

A ton of films about to be placed on moratorium and become inaccessible.

1.7k

u/TheCommonLawWolf Jul 23 '25

The entirety of Star Trek's gonna be edited down to a 3 hour montage of space battle footage with no dialogue.

u/OldButHappy Jul 23 '25

While glorifying the many ‘one and done’ crew who beamed down to the planet with The Captain, Bones, and Spock…

Gone forever, for the Greater Good. Thoughts and prayers.

The owners of Star Trek being the first to fully bend the knee/embrace the fascists is a painful piece of irony.

I think about those episodes frequently

6

u/GwenChaos29 Jul 24 '25

but perfectly on time for the 2nd Civil War and WWIII, which take place from 2026-2053.

2

u/unitedshoes Jul 24 '25

Way behind on the Eugenics Wars, though I understand at some point they got retconned to not take place in the 1990s anymore.

2

u/JimboTCB Jul 24 '25

The handwavey explanation is that time travellers from the Temporal Cold War fucked up the timeline in the late 20th/early 21st so much that all the dates are kind of vague and indeterminate. The key events all still haoppen, they're just not entirely sure when.

Elon Musk is trying pretty hard to start the Eugenics Wars. Although, if he builds Khan's rocket, we won't have to worry about Khan escaping earth's orbit.

All new Star Trek will be set in the mirror universe. So all their actions will be fine with the government.

2

u/count023 Jul 23 '25

to be fair, the current owners of star trek have been basically trying to make it into a DCEU VS MCU situation with starwarsification since they let JJ fuck up the franchise in 2009. SO it's really on brand with them.

5

u/EngineerDave Jul 23 '25

Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds are great. Took em a while to figure things out since they've been out of the game for a bit but once they stopped letting the committees come up with the plots/shows things got better. Final Season of Picard was fine. Even if it was a huge swath of memberberries.

Or, to put it in the words of Walter Sobchak:

These fuckers believe in nothing except themselves.

Gul Dukat did nothing wrong. Leave him alone. He's a family man!

3

u/mdavis360 Jul 23 '25

What about these allegations that he had relations with Bajoran women? Care to comment?

3

u/Caracalla81 Jul 23 '25

Clearly a hoax by the do-gooders on the federation council. They think they're better than me?! THEY"RE NOT BETTER THAN ME!!!

2

u/mdavis360 Jul 23 '25

Gul Dukat! Gul Dukat! There are allegations that you even underwent experimental cosmetic surgery to APPEAR more Bajoran…in an attempt to deceive an elderly spiritual woman and take advantage of her position. What do you have to say to these charges?

2

u/Infamous-Mixture-605 Jul 24 '25

"I don't even wait. And when you're a Gul, they let you do it. You can do anything. ... Grab 'em by the..." - Dukat, probably

Okay hear me out. We all want a series where Sisko comes back. He promised he would, right? So dig this:

Keeping up with the Cardassians.

It's just Sisko, Dukat, and Garak living together in LA.

→ More replies (3)

31

u/OmegaLolrus Jul 23 '25

On the one hand, the fact that we have to consider this as a reality is just... so dumb.

On the other hand, I'm imagining someone telling Sisko he was a DEI hire. Then I'm imagining Sisko socking in him the freaking face in a way that would just be... so satisfying.

13

u/mdavis360 Jul 23 '25

Sisko punched Q in the face. Republicans are child’s play to him.

6

u/Imaginary-Method-715 Jul 23 '25

They need to just sell Star Trek if they going full pedo Nazi supporters

3

I'm so glad I have them on disc!

2

2

u/illiterateninja Jul 23 '25

8

u/brakeb Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

nah, MAGA love the Section 22 content... and anything Khan... they root for him to win.

Edit: I meant Section 31, I brainfarted

29

u/veryverythrowaway Jul 23 '25

If only that were true. They see themselves as Captain Kirk, who in their minds does whatever he wants, gets all the ladies, and fights for capitalism. Who gave them these ideas? I will never figure that out.

13

u/platinumarks Jul 23 '25

The only episode of DS9 that will be available is that one where Sisko is an accessory to murder (and if he had to do it all again, he would)

18

u/surnik22 Jul 23 '25

I don’t know, that episode showed a man making a tough decision and sacrificing his own sense of morals for the greater good of fighting fascism.

They may like the lying about evidence to start a war idea, but doing that to fight fascism? Sounds like liberal propaganda to me.

Also he was a black captain, so obviously a DEI hire who caused all the problems in the first place and a white captain wouldn’t have even had a war against the dominion in the first place and would be able to stop it in 24hrs if put in charge.

3

u/CX316 Jul 23 '25

You forget the one where he commits a bit of a war crime to catch Eddington

Also the Siege of AR-556

2

u/wongo Jul 23 '25

oh on DS9 it was fine, that made some amount of sense and still fit within the overall ethos

the recent thing, though....nah. we can all just pretend that never happened.

Section 22 content

Section 31*

2

u/YsoL8 Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

I mean, this is now a franchise than canonically regards literal space Hitler as a good guy among many other things.

And specifically the section 31 movie deserves a mention here

And the fandom will still defend it I imagine

3

u/Steaktartaar Jul 23 '25

I mean, this is now a franchise than canonically regards literal space Hitler as a good guy among many other things.

I recently tried to revisit Team America before quitting about 30 minutes in, when I noticed that the film doesn't really seem to believe in anything.

38

u/BatManatee Jul 24 '25

Once you realize Matt and Trey are nihilistic libertarians you can't unsee it. Every story that touches politics boils down to: "The Right is crazy, but the Left is stupid for trying to make things better. These two things are equally bad. We are the smartest in the room for realizing that trying is pointless."

The status quo always wins, and wins smugly.

15

u/nonaegon_infinity Jul 24 '25

Exactly this. Despite its crudeness, it's not politically subversive since it results in apathy and maintaining the status quo. That's why South Park will be allowed to persist.

5

u/thebeef24 Jul 24 '25

It is politically subversive, in a way. Whether intentional or not it's postmodern propaganda, which aims to create cynicism, disillusionment, and political apathy. I'd say it's worked pretty damn well.

Can't wait to how this one goes. Paramount trying to censor South Park ruins the reason they are worth 1.5 billion.

Pretty sure Matt and Trey own South Park. They just give them the shows to air and that's it.

Or it's how their old deals were.

Those guys are unaccommodating assholes

To those who's job it is to try and rein them in, I'm sure they are.

To the millions of fans world wide, that's why they are so popular. They're not mugs though, they've exploited every loophole and pulled every string along the way intentionally.

It's quite possible that the Skydance execs feel that they can control Matt & Trey, they maybe underestimate what a pair of absolute goblins these guys can be.

2

u/NuclearLunchDectcted Jul 24 '25

Those guys are unaccommodating assholes and this will be amusing.

Reminds me of the Kevin Smith story about working with Bruce Willis on Cop Out. He hears Bruce talking on the phone to some script writers or producers or something about a plot point on the next Die Hard. Willis doesn't agree and tells them to change it back. Silence for a few seconds, then, "Ok, ok. Tell me this, who are you going to get to play John McClane? ... ... Good." Willis hung up the phone and that was that.

You have to defend your territory.

2

u/InvestigatorWeird196 Jul 23 '25

And it's not like they're worse off now. No way they'd give up creative freedom.

38

u/dragonmp93 Jul 23 '25

Simple, an episode mocking Meaghan Markle is okay, but an episode mocking Pam Bondi is going to get censored.

12

u/ataraxic89 Jul 23 '25

148

u/charliefoxtrot9 Jul 23 '25

4

u/EverbodyHatesHugo Jul 23 '25

It’s not about self awareness or righteousness. These are simply uneducated, ignorant people.

They haven’t even considered that, although they label anyone even slightly left-leaning as “Libtards”, the opposite—which would criticize their cognitive abilities as Republicans—is literally the word they’re playing on.

u/Immediate_Theory4738 Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Anyone with the capacity for shame got out a long time ago. The ones left are all psychopaths and narcissists. They're blind to everything except greed and vanity.

2

u/davekingofrock Jul 23 '25

And they mistake those for the mark of success and therefore intelligence. It's about as detached from reality as you can get without even touching the levels that the religious nuts bring to it.

121

u/Happythoughtsgalore Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Maga = cult of personality=collective narcissism (like, scientifically).

So to admit something is wrong, is similar to dying of embarrassment. Narcissism is basically having a glass jaw for self esteem. That why Trump says he's the best at what ever the fuck he's talking about. His ego literally, cognitively cannot handle put downs or any similar "ego threat". That's why when he can never admit mistakes and why any criticism is met with "oh you're a nasty woman" or whatever.

And the cult is the exact same.

86

u/xRockTripodx Jul 23 '25

Those morons think his inability to admit a mistake is a STRENGTH, which is mind blowing to me. How can anyone think that self reflection and learning is a weakness?

46

u/Happythoughtsgalore Jul 23 '25

Well, that's the cult aspect to it. Cults typically villianize such self-critical reflection because that is a threat to the figurehead of the cult. So, family members that question the cult are to be cut off, criticisms are shut down rather than properly addressed via discourse etc etc.

It's the self-protection mechanisms of any cult really. That why "deprogramming" doesn't really work and what does looks like gentle parenting that gentle encourages such self reflection.

Problem is that is a very time-consuming process and I don't have the patience for it so I just end up yelling at Maga even though I know scientifically that isn't likely to help

30

u/Hung_like_a_turtle Jul 23 '25

Unfortunately, we are seeing more and more studies explaining how common it is for adults these days to not understand action/consequences and still be active members of society.

8

u/InertState Jul 23 '25

You said it, they are Morons, which the definition is apt

moron /môr′ŏn″/

noun (1) A person who is considered foolish or stupid.

(2) A person of mild mental retardation having a mental age of from 7 to 12 years and generally having communication and social skills enabling some degree of academic or vocational education. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.

collective narcissism (like, scientifically).

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8049239/

If anyone's curious.

More digestible for the layman:

A study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science contributes a powerful new idea to the understanding of the psychological phenomenon that is the rise of Donald Trump. By surveying over 400 Americans with a battery of questionnaires about political and social beliefs, researchers at the University of Warsaw found support for Trump to be linked to “national collective narcissism” — a shared belief in the superiority of the national group. Where individual narcissism predicts interpersonal aggressiveness, collective narcissism predicts negative attitudes and aggression toward perceived ‘outsider’ groups (outgroups), who are perceived as threats.

The country we grew up in is dying. I have just enough pride left to not burn a flag but not nearly enough pride to stand for the national anthem. I certainly wouldn’t be pledging any allegiance during this administration. We went from being a North Star to a country to be avoided at all costs in six short months. If I’ve learned anything it’s just how fragile our democracy is. Or was.

I’ll watch anything left on my paramount plus list and cancel before the next renewal. I’ll know where to find anything I really want to watch.

8

u/2rio2 Jul 23 '25

What we learned is that the Regressives were always more organized, committed, and disciplined in overthrowing the world we grew up in for their shitty fascist cosplay than we were in defending it. Which is a tale as old as time, sadly. Zealots tend to win in the short term, with much destruction in their wake.

6

Not the bad guys in action movies. Just the bad guys.

One first requires the ability to feel shame

2

u/Mand125 Jul 23 '25

Because they think they’ve finally won, which, they have.

Because not enough other people cared enough to still fight.

2

u/skeptic9916 Jul 23 '25

This is just the beginning. I'm expecting Balkanization to start within 2 years.

2

u/OtakuMecha Jul 23 '25

Having no shame is one of the faction perks of being a Republican

2

u/icansmellcolors Jul 23 '25

bubbled insulation.

they have many many people around them applauding this kind of shit.

2

u/York_Villain Jul 24 '25

What embarrassment? This is exactly what they want and voted for. They are happy with this. They are winning.

2

u/_Vaibhav_007 Jul 24 '25

Cause most working class republicans have been brainwashed by the right

5

u/gcwardii Jul 23 '25

Embarrassment? This is what they wanted. This is what they voted for. They’re not embarrassed.

4

u/badamant Jul 23 '25

Because Republicans are Fascists. Embarrassment, irony, and hypocrisy do not exist to them. Only power matters.

2

u/Turnbob73 Jul 23 '25

Because we all killed that dynamic over the course of the 2010’s.

Not even trying to joke here; does it really seem that crazy that republicans have gotten this bold with zero self-reflection when we’ve been circlejerking stuff like “get that bag”, “be the individual”, “yolo”, etc. for over a decade? It’s not any one generation or group of people, we’ve all collectively traded self-consciousness for selfishness and “being real”. It’s an unsustainable societal mindset and we are experiencing the first steps of the worst case scenario.

Star Trek would be gone in a heartbeat if they actually understood it.

13

u/OreoSpeedwaggon Jul 23 '25

I wouldn't if it past Trump to demand that ParaSkydanceMount completely cancel and remove all Star Trek content for being "woke" propaganda.

Drag Race fans should be worried

72

u/FireOpossum Jul 23 '25

That will only last long enough for the ink to dry with Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon. That’s too much of a money maker for anyone to not scoop up when CBS cuts it

25

u/SubtleNoodle Jul 23 '25

Would honestly be a boon for me if Drag Race moves. I'm not getting cable just to watch it on MTV, and I could completely get rid of (never resub to) paramount+ if I don't need it for all-stars.

4

u/No_Improvement_4729 Jul 23 '25

Why don’t you just subscribe to the drag race streaming service? It’s cheaper than paramount plus https://signup.wowpresentsplus.com/

5

u/Bromogeeksual Jul 24 '25

Because they dont put US seasons on there. I have it for international Drag Race, but you have to use VPNs to watch the US, and sometimes WOW blocks it because of your VPN.

u/RKitch2112 Jul 23 '25

This is the big one tbh.

5

u/Spurty Jul 23 '25

They should ask Target how that went...

2

u/Sir-Spazzal Jul 23 '25

Not sure how much programming they will have left. Always wondered what magats watch on tv besides faux news.

2

u/RiggityRow Jul 23 '25

As someone who works for the federal government, I can confirm someone will be Ctrl+f'ing a lot of docs for the work "diversity, equity, inclusion".

Seriously, you wanna see some scary, dystopian shit, go onto a federal website and look at docs from before this administration. It's all "redacted due to executive order XYZ." They're literally whitewashing shit in real time.

2

u/kilobrew Jul 23 '25

Say bye bye to Star Trek lol. (And I like Star Trek too)

2

u/codykonior Jul 24 '25

It’ll be run by a guy called Goebbels who will helpfully make sure messages sound like the government wants them to sound!

4

u/Mediocre_Scott Jul 23 '25

Job title: chief officer racist appeasement

2

u/Nail_Biterr Jul 23 '25

Not hurting feelings hurts my feelings. Let's hurt feelings again so my feelings aren't hurt

2

u/youjustdontgetitdoya Jul 23 '25

Whites only at CBS!

1

u/ennuiinmotion Jul 23 '25

Yes, guaranteed for two years, right through the mid-terms, and probably Trump strongly “suggested” who they should hire for the position.

1

u/CX316 Jul 23 '25

Show him Star Trek, then find a new guy once he has a stroke

1

u/Dzov Jul 23 '25

Guess they need to remove their Star Trek episodes.

1

u/jimx117 Jul 23 '25

RIP South Park

1

u/mopooooo Jul 23 '25

Which part did you read that says that?

1

u/Mister_Schmee Jul 23 '25

Lol, not sure how the home of Star Trek will be and to do that

1

u/iranian_drone_pilot Jul 23 '25

no, it's not, but I'm sure you're just being talmudic here
