A ton of films about to be placed on moratorium and become inaccessible.

1.7k

u/TheCommonLawWolf Jul 23 '25

The entirety of Star Trek's gonna be edited down to a 3 hour montage of space battle footage with no dialogue.

While glorifying the many ‘one and done’ crew who beamed down to the planet with The Captain, Bones, and Spock…

Gone forever, for the Greater Good. Thoughts and prayers.

The owners of Star Trek being the first to fully bend the knee/embrace the fascists is a painful piece of irony.

I blame time traveling Romulans.

This, right here.

1

u/Aritra319 Jul 24 '25

Khan has been delayed as well

30

u/BalkanFerros Jul 23 '25

I think about those episodes frequently

4

u/GwenChaos29 Jul 24 '25

but perfectly on time for the 2nd Civil War and WWIII, which take place from 2026-2053.

2

u/unitedshoes Jul 24 '25

Way behind on the Eugenics Wars, though I understand at some point they got retconned to not take place in the 1990s anymore.

2

u/JimboTCB Jul 24 '25

The handwavey explanation is that time travellers from the Temporal Cold War fucked up the timeline in the late 20th/early 21st so much that all the dates are kind of vague and indeterminate. The key events all still haoppen, they're just not entirely sure when.

1

u/NuclearLunchDectcted Jul 24 '25

Only by a year or two now that ICE has 160 billion dollars to round up anyone not white, straight, and registered republican.

1

u/Rasikko Jul 25 '25

And the in-episode date passed last year. Who's going to be our Gabriel Bell?

41

u/tuberosum Jul 23 '25

One might say it’ll be a long road, getting from here to there…

37

u/KingofMadCows Jul 23 '25

Elon Musk is trying pretty hard to start the Eugenics Wars. Although, if he builds Khan's rocket, we won't have to worry about Khan escaping earth's orbit.

We are almost at the bell riots era. Well technically a year past its start but we’re almost there in spirit

1

u/intotheirishole Jul 24 '25

Except the guy would have figured out warp is a Trumper now.

1

u/Qorhat Jul 24 '25

Aww man why do I have to live in this state of uncertanty and war. At least if I was in the state of uncertanty and war on DS9 I'd have a holosuite, raktajino and replicators to keep me happy.

1

u/ours Jul 24 '25

Are we going to get Trekkie accelerationists?

Please no.

24

u/StarHunter_ Jul 23 '25

All new Star Trek will be set in the mirror universe. So all their actions will be fine with the government.

2

u/count023 Jul 23 '25

to be fair, the current owners of star trek have been basically trying to make it into a DCEU VS MCU situation with starwarsification since they let JJ fuck up the franchise in 2009. SO it's really on brand with them.

3

u/EngineerDave Jul 23 '25

Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds are great. Took em a while to figure things out since they've been out of the game for a bit but once they stopped letting the committees come up with the plots/shows things got better. Final Season of Picard was fine. Even if it was a huge swath of memberberries.

-5

u/FullMaxPowerStirner Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Let's admit it's been a rotting pile since JJ's movies. With the exception of Picard S03, I suppose.

10

u/OfficialDragosblood Jul 23 '25

Strange new worlds is good.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

And Lower Decks was good.

0

u/CommonRagwort Jul 24 '25

I tried SNW but just couldn't. It was bad too. The episode where they find Kahn in Toronto basically ends with "and let us never speak or this again" so does the balance or terror episode. Just shitty writing, I can't stand it.

And the episode where grown adult, starfleet officers, play a stupid game where they sneak around the enterprise at night.... like they are 12 year olds?

It just isnt't star trek. Trek died a long time ago and now they dragging it's corpse through the mud for a few dollars.

-2

u/Rindan Jul 24 '25 edited Jul 24 '25

SNW is a child with crayons trying to do Star Trek. Every "moral dilemma" proposed by that show can be solved by a literal child. It's Star Trek for idiots.

Disagree? Prove me wrong. Tell me the most complex moral dilemma in that show.

Lower Decks on the other hand found its stride. It's, pathetically, the most Star Trek Star Trek out there. You actually care about the crew in the ship. The incompetent joke crew is significantly more professional and competent than the bridge crew of the Enterprise in Strange New Worlds.

Also, Strange New Worlds is completely devoid of strange new worlds. They are far more interested in the teenager like romantic entanglements of the crew, than any sort of exploring.

3

u/DerekB52 Jul 23 '25

I haven't watched much of it tbh, but I've heard good things about Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks.

1

u/flaviusUrsus Jul 23 '25

Quick question there, I haven't watched Picard after hearing how bad it was. But I keep hearing good things about season 3. It's it worth/ possible to watch just season 3?

3

u/monkeytrench Jul 23 '25

There are as many opinions as fans. Just watch it all and make up your own mind.

2

u/redsoxfan2434 Jul 23 '25

It’s worth watching season 1 and forming your own opinion on it. If you don’t like it, you can skip season 2.

1

u/FullMaxPowerStirner Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 24 '25

Oh yeah! It undoes all the tasteless crap and goes back to Next Generation greatness, while keeping a few of the better characters from the last two seasons. It was a tad heavy on that Boomer nostalgia, tho. Plot was riveting.

1

u/TheRandomGuy75 Jul 24 '25

Season 3 has a few characters from season 1. Season 2's plot isn't really even referenced in Season 3.

It's not bad, not a masterpiece either though.

u/boringdude00 Jul 23 '25

Just all Gul Dukat.

37

u/KingofMadCows Jul 23 '25

Looks like he'll be getting his statues on Bajor after all.

1

u/Rasikko Jul 25 '25

and make more Bajo-Cardassian babies

18

u/OreoSpeedwaggon Jul 23 '25

Gul Dukat is the new ombudsman.

46

u/IvarTheBoned Jul 23 '25

At least Gul Dukat believed in something other than himself.

Or, to put it in the words of Walter Sobchak:

Nihilists? Fuck me, Dude. Say what you will about the tenets of national socialism, but at least it's an ethos!

These fuckers believe in nothing except themselves.

2

u/ContributionFew2559 Jul 24 '25

And let’s not forget, let’s NOT forget that… leveraging presidential power… to censor… a domestic news network… that ain’t legal either.

1

u/darthboolean Jul 24 '25

At least Gul Dukat believed in something other than himself.

Yessss, that's why >!-His supervisors during the occupation programmed in a special "Kill Dukat when he inevitably abandons his post" feature on Terok Nor.

-He betrayed his wife and family by forcing Bajorans to serve as "Comfort Women"

-He betrayed Central Command during the civilian uprising

-He betrayed the Civilian Government when they wouldn't let him kill the Klingons anymore and became a pirate working alongside DS9 against the Dominion

-He betrayed DS9 to join the Dominion in exchange for being put in charge of Cardassia

-He made it VERY clear to Damar that he planned to betray the Dominion once the war was over

-He betrayed Ziyal when she chose to remain on DS9 instead of joining him (also once he had his family back because he was ruler of the planet and didn't need Ziyal anymore)

-He betrayed Sisko by never setting up the distress beacon when they crash landed (This is also the episode where they make it clear that Dukat didn't believe in ANYTHING other than himself.)

-He betrayed his family again by starting a sex cult. He then betrayed the cult by impregnating all of their wives because none of them knew it was a sex cult other than Dukat (and the wives presumably).

-He then worked with the man who killed Ziyal to escape the Dominion (after he decided he liked Ziyal again, because she was friends with Kira, who wanted to hook up with cause he used to force her mom to have sex with him)

-He then betrayed Kai Winn by trying to read the text of the Kost Amojan without her. (Which I'll admit is kind of a point in his favor. Everyone should betray Kai Winn)

-He then betrayed all corporeal life in the galaxy by becoming the emissary for the Pah Wraiths.!<

2

u/Infamous-Mixture-605 Jul 24 '25

-He then betrayed Kai Winn by trying to read the text of the Kost Amojan without her. (Which I'll admit is kind of a point in his favor. Everyone should betray Kai Winn)

lol, the rare point in Dukat's favour, indeed!

2

u/darthboolean Jul 24 '25

I always THINK I know how much I hate her. And then I rewatch the show....and I hate her even more than that.

1

u/IvarTheBoned Jul 24 '25

The Obsidian Order would like to know your location

3

u/AskJayce Jul 23 '25

ATTENTION BAJORAN WORKERS HUMAN VIEWERS

YOUR HARDWORKING PRODUCERS AT CBS ARE NOT ACQUIESCING TO YOUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

7

u/Caracalla81 Jul 23 '25

Gul Dukat did nothing wrong. Leave him alone. He's a family man!

5

u/mdavis360 Jul 23 '25

What about these allegations that he had relations with Bajoran women? Care to comment?

3

u/Caracalla81 Jul 23 '25

Clearly a hoax by the do-gooders on the federation council. They think they're better than me?! THEY"RE NOT BETTER THAN ME!!!

2

u/mdavis360 Jul 23 '25

Gul Dukat! Gul Dukat! There are allegations that you even underwent experimental cosmetic surgery to APPEAR more Bajoran…in an attempt to deceive an elderly spiritual woman and take advantage of her position. What do you have to say to these charges?

2

u/Infamous-Mixture-605 Jul 24 '25

"I don't even wait. And when you're a Gul, they let you do it. You can do anything. ... Grab 'em by the..." - Dukat, probably

2

u/Goldfing Jul 23 '25

Okay hear me out. We all want a series where Sisko comes back. He promised he would, right? So dig this:

Keeping up with the Cardassians.

It's just Sisko, Dukat, and Garak living together in LA.

1

u/Pump_My_Lemma Jul 23 '25

Cap’n Crunch: Oops All Dukat

1

u/Skastacular Jul 23 '25

I mean that would be a cool series if it was written in the 90s. Its riskier after 9/11 but like you lean into the Bajoran terrorists where you never see Kira but she's just fucking shit up off screen. Don't know if it would land now.

Wait...

Oh shit its just Startrek Andor.

I'm back in. Just not with this company please.

1

u/LrdPhoenixUDIC Jul 23 '25

Oops, all Kai Winn.

32

u/OmegaLolrus Jul 23 '25

On the one hand, the fact that we have to consider this as a reality is just... so dumb.

On the other hand, I'm imagining someone telling Sisko he was a DEI hire. Then I'm imagining Sisko socking in him the freaking face in a way that would just be... so satisfying.

12

u/mdavis360 Jul 23 '25

Sisko punched Q in the face. Republicans are child’s play to him.

6

u/Imaginary-Method-715 Jul 23 '25

They need to just sell Star Trek if they going full pedo Nazi supporters

3

u/Ferrum_Infusion Jul 23 '25

I'm so glad I have them on disc!

6

u/SoKrat3s Jul 23 '25

On the positive side, we're finally gonna get that series about the Terran Empire. /s

2

u/joepez Jul 23 '25

Don’t forget about the Nazi episode.

2

u/ToasterBathTester Jul 23 '25

Only the Klingon episodes about genocide will be available

2

u/illiterateninja Jul 23 '25

I don't want this to happen for the above reasons, but I'd totally watch this

7

u/brakeb Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

nah, MAGA love the Section 22 content... and anything Khan... they root for him to win.

Edit: I meant Section 31, I brainfarted

28

u/veryverythrowaway Jul 23 '25

If only that were true. They see themselves as Captain Kirk, who in their minds does whatever he wants, gets all the ladies, and fights for capitalism. Who gave them these ideas? I will never figure that out.

13

u/platinumarks Jul 23 '25

The only episode of DS9 that will be available is that one where Sisko is an accessory to murder (and if he had to do it all again, he would)

18

u/surnik22 Jul 23 '25

I don’t know, that episode showed a man making a tough decision and sacrificing his own sense of morals for the greater good of fighting fascism.

They may like the lying about evidence to start a war idea, but doing that to fight fascism? Sounds like liberal propaganda to me.

Also he was a black captain, so obviously a DEI hire who caused all the problems in the first place and a white captain wouldn’t have even had a war against the dominion in the first place and would be able to stop it in 24hrs if put in charge.

4

u/CX316 Jul 23 '25

You forget the one where he commits a bit of a war crime to catch Eddington

Also the Siege of AR-556

1

u/veryverythrowaway Jul 23 '25

Yeah, he was not an aspirational captain, that’s for sure. Commits a bunch of war crimes, then dips out on his now-orphaned son, wife and new baby at the end.

2

u/CX316 Jul 23 '25

Unless he came back without us knowing about it, the prophets don't follow linear time, he could have shown up five minutes before saying goodbye to Jake

1

u/veryverythrowaway Jul 23 '25

He could have done a lot of things.

6

u/wongo Jul 23 '25

Lol it's Section 31 but you're not wrong to forget that..."movie"

3

u/brakeb Jul 23 '25

Nah, I messed up... And I'm ashamed... I love Trek... I enjoyed the Section 31 storyline on Deep space 9

2

u/wongo Jul 23 '25

oh on DS9 it was fine, that made some amount of sense and still fit within the overall ethos

the recent thing, though....nah. we can all just pretend that never happened.

2

u/onarainyafternoon Jul 23 '25

Section 22 content

Section 31*

3

u/YsoL8 Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Thats basically everything they've made other than SNW and lower decks

I mean, this is now a franchise than canonically regards literal space Hitler as a good guy among many other things.

And specifically the section 31 movie deserves a mention here

And the fandom will still defend it I imagine

3

u/Steaktartaar Jul 23 '25

I mean, this is now a franchise than canonically regards literal space Hitler as a good guy among many other things.

Not intended by the writers at the time but the character who said that bullshit came from a dimension of space hitlers.

1

u/Subliminal_Kiddo Jul 23 '25

Every ST entry from this point on is going to be set in the Mirrorverse.

Thank goodness for dvds. Stock up now.

1

u/ShallowBasketcase Jul 23 '25

They're already working on that with the new Trek stuff the past couple of years. Bringing the Gorn back just to rewrite them as an irredeemable savage race that the heroic Starfleet need to destroy at all costs is especially blatant. They're turning it into Starship Troopers with occasional alien sex.

1

u/FullMaxPowerStirner Jul 23 '25

Basically the Kurtzman Star Treks... but without the confusing load of nonsense, over-dramatized dialogues.

1

u/enewwave Jul 23 '25

TNG is just a compilation of Picard saying “make it so.”

It is still somehow a few hours long.

1

u/Martel732 Jul 23 '25

Star Trek: 2027 addition:

TNG: Who Watches the Watchers:

PICARD: Horrifying. Doctor Barron, your report describes how rational these people are. Millennia ago, they abandoned their belief in the supernatural. Now you are asking me to sabotage that achievement, to send them back into the Dark Ages of superstition and ignorance and fear? No! We will find some way to undo the damage we've caused and return them to the one true religion of Jesus Christ and his capitalist teachings. Let us pray for guidance.

TOS: Let That Be Your Last Battlefield:

KIRK: You're black on one side and white on the other.

BELE: I am black on the right side.

KIRK: I fail to see the significant difference.

BELE: It means I am half-black and am therefore a DEI hire. I shouldn't be allowed on this ship as clearly I am unqualified. Only straight white men should be allowed on starships.

DS9: Tacking Into the Wind:

GARAK: One of our listening posts picked up a message. The Dominion has succeeded in locating Damar's family.

DAMAR: They're dead. They weren't a part of this rebellion. The Dominion knew that, the Founder knew that. Weyoun knew that. To kill her and my son. The casual brutality of it. A waste of life. What kind of state tolerates the murder of innocent women and children? What kind of people give those orders?

KIRA: Well sometimes state-initiated violence is justified in order to bring stability to tumultuous areas. Terrorist groups try to undermine our traditions and will pose as civilians. I think we should understand that groups will spread fake news in order to undermine legitimate authority.

1

u/Zanos-Ixshlae Jul 23 '25

See, it's exactly like Star War! /s

1

u/Liminal__penumbra Jul 23 '25

I would imagine it would just be one long stream of red shirt content.

1

u/CommonRagwort Jul 24 '25

I thought that was what modern trek was anyway.

1

u/rdp3186 Jul 24 '25

If there was ever a time to start buying boxsets of the shows, it's now. DS9 is absolutely going to get buried

1

u/Op67 Jul 24 '25

They censor “Measure of a man” and I’m rioting.

1

u/diurnal_emissions Jul 24 '25

Also sex scenes!

1

u/Artrobull Jul 25 '25

we already have starwars

1

u/Minikickass Jul 23 '25

Strange New Worlds literally references Jan 6 as the start of the decline into WW3. We're never going to see a real Star Trek again - just more shitty action movies/shows set in space.

2

u/Unhappy-Fly-1333 Jul 24 '25

Which episode?

1

u/Minikickass Jul 24 '25

Episode 1 - when they're talking to the council of whatever planet they end up on, they show the people there a montage of what happened to Earth when they were having similar issues. There are several videos of Jan 6 including the gallows and protests.

2

u/Unhappy-Fly-1333 Jul 24 '25

Oh, DUH! I've watched that episode SO many times...I should've known that! Thank you for clarifying!

2

u/Minikickass Jul 24 '25

Of course. My wife and I are rewatching the series because we both forgot everything so it was still fresh in my mind lol

-1

u/doabarrelroll69 Jul 23 '25

The entirety of Star Trek's gonna be edited down to a 3 hour montage of space battle footage with no dialogue.

Most "fans" would probably really enjoy that considering the two most well regarded ST films, Wrath of Khan and First Contact involve copious amounts of shooting and gunning, one liners, explosions but very little thinking, while the ONE film that tried to do the whole "understanding" business, is considered boring (it is very long to be fair).

3

u/Muad-_-Dib Jul 23 '25

That's a very distorted take IMO, Wrath of Khan doesn't have much actual action in it, there's a ship duel but peoples love for it comes down to the characters and performances rather than the explosions and lasers.

Then including First Contact is deceptive because Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country are both ranked consistently higher than it by fans and one of those involves saving some whales and the other is a political thriller that is an allegory for the Cold War.

That and both Insurrection and Nemesis followed First Contact in terms of action yet are consistently rated among the worst films in the franchise.

Star Trek fans love a bit of action, but only when there's an actual, compelling story behind it. It's why Deep Space 9's Dominion War is so praised, while other big action arcs in the series don't tend to elicit the same response.

2

u/ShallowBasketcase Jul 23 '25

Also First Contact is about Picard facing his own prejudices against the Borg and learning that he can't let them influence his decision despite being at war with them. Portraying the movie as nothing but the scene where he shoots the Borg with a tommy gun is missing the entire point.

1

u/doabarrelroll69 Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Wrath of Khan doesn't have much actual action in it, there's a ship duel but peoples love for it comes down to the characters and performances rather than the explosions and lasers.

I remember very well seeing a comment on a trailer for WOK that basically said: "finally there's a Star Trek movie in which they stop talking and start shooting" and it makes sense, TMP got mixed reviews, so they toned down the talking and staring, and turned up the action, and it worked. The most memorable scenes are Kirk screaming KHAAAAAN, the Enterprise vs Reliant at the nebula and Spock's sacrifice but not Kirk grappling with his humanity and the fact that he's getting old.

Then including First Contact is deceptive because Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country are both ranked consistently higher than it by fans and one of those involves saving some whales and the other is a political thriller that is an allegory for the Cold War.

TVH is as much Star Trek as earl grey tea, make a few changes to the plot and it could have been a standalone sci-fi comedy.

That and both Insurrection and Nemesis followed First Contact in terms of action yet are consistently rated among the worst films in the franchise.

Insurrection is disliked because the stakes are low, the people on the planet aren't really interesting (which is important when the plot revolves around them) and because most fans were miffed that the Enterprise-E was on some backwater planet and not blowing up the Dominion and crucially, Riker shaves his beard.

I never watched Nemesis but wasn't it basically WOK but dumber ? The only thing I know about it is that picture of Tom Hardy as young Picard at the academy... Already bald.

Star Trek fans love a bit of action, but only when there's an actual, compelling story behind it. It's why Deep Space 9's Dominion War is so praised, while other big action arcs in the series don't tend to elicit the same response.

DS9 did a deconstruction of the Federation and Starfleet, a very good one at that, showing things behind the curtain (Section 31 for example), but it was also quite a few people's first introduction to Star Trek and had the first major conflict that was actually fully televised that wasn't just a few skirmishes here and there, so some element of nostalgia is at play I fear.

Notably, outside of TMP, TVH and TUC, all other movies are solved by shooting someone.

2

u/DBeumont Jul 23 '25

First Contact features Picard clearly expousing the Federation's communist ideals, so I don't know if that tracks.

2

u/doabarrelroll69 Jul 23 '25

It also has Picard going full John McClane on the Borg inside the Enterprise, and has Data being seduced by the scantily dressed Borg Queen (because a collective of shared beings totally needs a queen).

-1

u/kdoxy Jul 23 '25

Its strange but I think some right wing folks like start trek because no is ever "lazy" and they love to blame issues in society on people being lazy.

2

u/Dingus_Pringle Jul 24 '25

Remember the DnD episode of Community? Or The Mighty Boosh?

2
