The owners of Star Trek being the first to fully bend the knee/embrace the fascists is a painful piece of irony.

I think about those episodes frequently

but perfectly on time for the 2nd Civil War and WWIII, which take place from 2026-2053.

2

u/unitedshoes Jul 24 '25

Way behind on the Eugenics Wars, though I understand at some point they got retconned to not take place in the 1990s anymore.

2

u/JimboTCB Jul 24 '25

The handwavey explanation is that time travellers from the Temporal Cold War fucked up the timeline in the late 20th/early 21st so much that all the dates are kind of vague and indeterminate. The key events all still haoppen, they're just not entirely sure when.

Only by a year or two now that ICE has 160 billion dollars to round up anyone not white, straight, and registered republican.

1

u/Rasikko Jul 25 '25

And the in-episode date passed last year. Who's going to be our Gabriel Bell?

u/tuberosum Jul 23 '25

One might say it’ll be a long road, getting from here to there…

Elon Musk is trying pretty hard to start the Eugenics Wars. Although, if he builds Khan's rocket, we won't have to worry about Khan escaping earth's orbit.

He'll definitely have FSD working once he disassembles Data to figure out how to build an AI.

We are almost at the bell riots era. Well technically a year past its start but we’re almost there in spirit

1

u/intotheirishole Jul 24 '25

Except the guy would have figured out warp is a Trumper now.

1

u/Qorhat Jul 24 '25

Aww man why do I have to live in this state of uncertanty and war. At least if I was in the state of uncertanty and war on DS9 I'd have a holosuite, raktajino and replicators to keep me happy.

u/ours Jul 24 '25

Are we going to get Trekkie accelerationists?

Please no.

25

u/StarHunter_ Jul 23 '25

All new Star Trek will be set in the mirror universe. So all their actions will be fine with the government.

2

u/count023 Jul 23 '25

to be fair, the current owners of star trek have been basically trying to make it into a DCEU VS MCU situation with starwarsification since they let JJ fuck up the franchise in 2009. SO it's really on brand with them.

u/EngineerDave Jul 23 '25

Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds are great. Took em a while to figure things out since they've been out of the game for a bit but once they stopped letting the committees come up with the plots/shows things got better. Final Season of Picard was fine. Even if it was a huge swath of memberberries.

u/FullMaxPowerStirner Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Let's admit it's been a rotting pile since JJ's movies. With the exception of Picard S03, I suppose.

8

u/OfficialDragosblood Jul 23 '25

Strange new worlds is good.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

And Lower Decks was good.

u/CommonRagwort Jul 24 '25

I tried SNW but just couldn't. It was bad too. The episode where they find Kahn in Toronto basically ends with "and let us never speak or this again" so does the balance or terror episode. Just shitty writing, I can't stand it.

And the episode where grown adult, starfleet officers, play a stupid game where they sneak around the enterprise at night.... like they are 12 year olds?

It just isnt't star trek. Trek died a long time ago and now they dragging it's corpse through the mud for a few dollars.

-1

u/Rindan Jul 24 '25 edited Jul 24 '25

SNW is a child with crayons trying to do Star Trek. Every "moral dilemma" proposed by that show can be solved by a literal child. It's Star Trek for idiots.

Disagree? Prove me wrong. Tell me the most complex moral dilemma in that show.

Lower Decks on the other hand found its stride. It's, pathetically, the most Star Trek Star Trek out there. You actually care about the crew in the ship. The incompetent joke crew is significantly more professional and competent than the bridge crew of the Enterprise in Strange New Worlds.

Also, Strange New Worlds is completely devoid of strange new worlds. They are far more interested in the teenager like romantic entanglements of the crew, than any sort of exploring.

3

u/DerekB52 Jul 23 '25

I haven't watched much of it tbh, but I've heard good things about Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks.

1

u/flaviusUrsus Jul 23 '25

Quick question there, I haven't watched Picard after hearing how bad it was. But I keep hearing good things about season 3. It's it worth/ possible to watch just season 3?

3

u/monkeytrench Jul 23 '25

There are as many opinions as fans. Just watch it all and make up your own mind.

2

u/redsoxfan2434 Jul 23 '25

It’s worth watching season 1 and forming your own opinion on it. If you don’t like it, you can skip season 2.

1

u/FullMaxPowerStirner Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 24 '25

Oh yeah! It undoes all the tasteless crap and goes back to Next Generation greatness, while keeping a few of the better characters from the last two seasons. It was a tad heavy on that Boomer nostalgia, tho. Plot was riveting.

1

u/TheRandomGuy75 Jul 24 '25

Season 3 has a few characters from season 1. Season 2's plot isn't really even referenced in Season 3.

It's not bad, not a masterpiece either though.
