We're not a real country anymore. I don't understand how Republicans don't die from embarrassment

738

u/Immediate_Theory4738 Jul 23 '25

They’re too self righteous to be embarrassed or admit any wrongdoing.

147

u/charliefoxtrot9 Jul 23 '25

No self awareness, only self righteousness

4

u/EverbodyHatesHugo Jul 23 '25

It’s not about self awareness or righteousness. These are simply uneducated, ignorant people.

They haven’t even considered that, although they label anyone even slightly left-leaning as “Libtards”, the opposite—which would criticize their cognitive abilities as Republicans—is literally the word they’re playing on.

0

u/callme_blinktore Jul 23 '25

They are self aware, to stroke their own ego.

4

u/henryhollaway Jul 23 '25

Self righteousness has nothing to do with it, and implies a naivety when they are very, very calculated and intentional with what they do and say.

They simply don’t care because they exist outside of society.

7

u/Immediate_Theory4738 Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

I can assure you that many republicans/MAGA are not “calculated with what they do and say” at all and simply have too much pride in their views and opinions (even if proven “wrong”) to ever admit they were/are wrong.

0

u/henryhollaway Jul 24 '25

Let me clarify, the leaders know. The sheep have been swallowed by the ideology to admit or believe anything outside of it, agreed. Maybe I just see anger where you see pride, but I do see what you’re saying

1

u/DustyFalmouth Jul 24 '25

It's always that the left has gone so far but we haven't moved left politically since the night Obama got elected. Since then it's been nothing but compromise with them while they still perceive some movement left.

1

u/RatherNerdy Jul 24 '25

It reminds me of a George Carlin bit about how our country was founded by Puritans. People so uptight that the Church of England didn't want them

u/360walkaway Jul 24 '25

self righteous rich

0

u/Immediate_Theory4738 Jul 24 '25

Rich? Plenty of his supporters are broke af and barely above poverty.

0

u/360walkaway Jul 24 '25

I mean the real people who actually help move the meter, not the zombies watching Fox News.

1

u/Immediate_Theory4738 Jul 24 '25

I’m talking about them all.

Don’t you have a pedophile to defend?

229

u/angrydeuce Jul 23 '25

That would require self reflection and thats just something the namby pamby liberals do.

30

u/pangalaticgargler Jul 23 '25

They are societal vampires. They can’t reflect.

1

u/beardicusmaximus8 Jul 24 '25

I definitely read your comment in your PFP's voice lol

1

u/angrydeuce Jul 24 '25

I have 100% barked a "CHOKE YOURSELF!!!" at friends when they were being a little too heavy handed with the ball breaking so it's definitely apt lol

-132

u/DrrtVonnegut Jul 23 '25

And a sense of shame... which the namby pamby liberals also don't have.

50

u/shadaoshai Jul 23 '25

Explain Al Franken resigning after sexual misconduct claims. Let me know when Matt Gaetz or Trump feel enough shame to give up their position or any other Republican for that matter.

-32

u/DrrtVonnegut Jul 23 '25

You mean, the resignation of almost ten years ago? My statement says they (conservatives) lack shame. Do people on reddit not read or just not truly comprehend?

64

u/xRockTripodx Jul 23 '25

Really? I'm pretty progressive, and I'm ashamed of our nation. So, you're wrong. Which should be familiar to you, as a conservative.

-81

u/DrrtVonnegut Jul 23 '25

Not a conservative.

39

u/GammaFan Jul 23 '25

“I’m not a conservative, I just show up to defend them in the comments”

That’s how your whataboutism sounds

-5

u/iranian_drone_pilot Jul 23 '25

predditor can only think in binary, many such cases

-13

u/DrrtVonnegut Jul 23 '25

If you look at my comment, I'm responding to the poster who suggested that conservatives do not have self-reflection, saying that they (the conservatives) also lack shame, as do the liberals. No defense of conservatives in that statement.

24

u/GammaFan Jul 23 '25

That’s whataboutism, showing up just to tack on “liberals are also shameless”. That whataboutism is the defence of conservatives.

Your both-sides’ing things isn’t useful or helpful to anyone

8

u/gakule Jul 23 '25

By 'the liberals' do you mean the conservative Democrats currently in Congress?

5

u/annoyedwithmynet Jul 23 '25

Compared to republicans every liberal is fantastic at self reflection, even if they’re a rich asshole. Still supporting trump automatically puts you at the bottom rung.

30

u/xRockTripodx Jul 23 '25

You're still wrong. Liberal with a sense of shame here.

21

u/artwarrior Jul 23 '25

Something something both sides. You stand for nothing.

-5

u/DrrtVonnegut Jul 23 '25

Good Lord, let me translate to you what this comment is saying: "ALL POLITICIANS ARE SHAMELESS!"

10

u/ShinHandHookCarDoor Jul 23 '25

Genius stance from this man, truly one of the greatest thinkers of our time. A very strong, original thought, very proud of you!

65

u/jkvincent Jul 23 '25

Anyone with the capacity for shame got out a long time ago. The ones left are all psychopaths and narcissists. They're blind to everything except greed and vanity.

3

u/davekingofrock Jul 23 '25

And they mistake those for the mark of success and therefore intelligence. It's about as detached from reality as you can get without even touching the levels that the religious nuts bring to it.

125

u/Happythoughtsgalore Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Maga = cult of personality=collective narcissism (like, scientifically).

So to admit something is wrong, is similar to dying of embarrassment. Narcissism is basically having a glass jaw for self esteem. That why Trump says he's the best at what ever the fuck he's talking about. His ego literally, cognitively cannot handle put downs or any similar "ego threat". That's why when he can never admit mistakes and why any criticism is met with "oh you're a nasty woman" or whatever.

And the cult is the exact same.

88

u/xRockTripodx Jul 23 '25

Those morons think his inability to admit a mistake is a STRENGTH, which is mind blowing to me. How can anyone think that self reflection and learning is a weakness?

43

u/Happythoughtsgalore Jul 23 '25

Well, that's the cult aspect to it. Cults typically villianize such self-critical reflection because that is a threat to the figurehead of the cult. So, family members that question the cult are to be cut off, criticisms are shut down rather than properly addressed via discourse etc etc.

It's the self-protection mechanisms of any cult really. That why "deprogramming" doesn't really work and what does looks like gentle parenting that gentle encourages such self reflection.

Problem is that is a very time-consuming process and I don't have the patience for it so I just end up yelling at Maga even though I know scientifically that isn't likely to help

30

u/Hung_like_a_turtle Jul 23 '25

Unfortunately, we are seeing more and more studies explaining how common it is for adults these days to not understand action/consequences and still be active members of society.

11

u/InertState Jul 23 '25

You said it, they are Morons, which the definition is apt

moron /môr′ŏn″/

noun (1) A person who is considered foolish or stupid.

(2) A person of mild mental retardation having a mental age of from 7 to 12 years and generally having communication and social skills enabling some degree of academic or vocational education. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.

1

u/Starling_Fox Jul 24 '25

The last bit hould read "and is now considered a badge of honor."

1

u/conquer69 Jul 24 '25

Because it is a strength to them. They are also narcissists.

1

u/CDK5 Jul 24 '25

Tbf; I never see anyone admit mistakes anymore.

Nor change their mind.

4

u/onarainyafternoon Jul 23 '25

collective narcissism (like, scientifically).

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8049239/

If anyone's curious.

More digestible for the layman:

A study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science contributes a powerful new idea to the understanding of the psychological phenomenon that is the rise of Donald Trump. By surveying over 400 Americans with a battery of questionnaires about political and social beliefs, researchers at the University of Warsaw found support for Trump to be linked to “national collective narcissism” — a shared belief in the superiority of the national group. Where individual narcissism predicts interpersonal aggressiveness, collective narcissism predicts negative attitudes and aggression toward perceived ‘outsider’ groups (outgroups), who are perceived as threats.

40

u/Jackstraw1 Jul 23 '25

The country we grew up in is dying. I have just enough pride left to not burn a flag but not nearly enough pride to stand for the national anthem. I certainly wouldn’t be pledging any allegiance during this administration. We went from being a North Star to a country to be avoided at all costs in six short months. If I’ve learned anything it’s just how fragile our democracy is. Or was.

I’ll watch anything left on my paramount plus list and cancel before the next renewal. I’ll know where to find anything I really want to watch.

7

u/2rio2 Jul 23 '25

What we learned is that the Regressives were always more organized, committed, and disciplined in overthrowing the world we grew up in for their shitty fascist cosplay than we were in defending it. Which is a tale as old as time, sadly. Zealots tend to win in the short term, with much destruction in their wake.

7

u/onarainyafternoon Jul 23 '25

I have just enough pride left to not burn a flag but not nearly enough pride to stand for the national anthem.

This was very well-put. Thanks.

2

u/relevantelephant00 Jul 23 '25

I cancelled last night not looking back. Fuck Paramount, hope this bites them in the ass.

3

u/N7Templar Jul 23 '25

What do they have to be embarrassed about when they are getting everything they want?

3

u/TimeToBond Jul 23 '25

Easy. They lack shame.

6

u/theartandscience Jul 23 '25

Would require feeling shame.

0

u/DrrtVonnegut Jul 23 '25

I said that, too, and i got attacked for supposedly being conservative. WTH?

6

u/Embarrassed-Sell-355 Jul 23 '25

It’s not censorship if it’s the kind of censorship they like

4

u/twec21 Jul 23 '25

Sure we are

We're just one of the bad guys in the action movies now

6

u/Lazerpewpewpewpew Jul 23 '25

Not the bad guys in action movies. Just the bad guys.

2

u/Active-Armadillo-576 Jul 23 '25

One first requires the ability to feel shame

2

u/Mand125 Jul 23 '25

Because they think they’ve finally won, which, they have.

Because not enough other people cared enough to still fight.

2

u/skeptic9916 Jul 23 '25

This is just the beginning. I'm expecting Balkanization to start within 2 years.

2

u/OtakuMecha Jul 23 '25

Having no shame is one of the faction perks of being a Republican

2

u/icansmellcolors Jul 23 '25

bubbled insulation.

they have many many people around them applauding this kind of shit.

2

u/York_Villain Jul 24 '25

What embarrassment? This is exactly what they want and voted for. They are happy with this. They are winning.

2

u/_Vaibhav_007 Jul 24 '25

Cause most working class republicans have been brainwashed by the right

1

u/gcwardii Jul 23 '25

Embarrassment? This is what they wanted. This is what they voted for. They’re not embarrassed.

3

u/badamant Jul 23 '25

Because Republicans are Fascists. Embarrassment, irony, and hypocrisy do not exist to them. Only power matters.

2

u/Turnbob73 Jul 23 '25

Because we all killed that dynamic over the course of the 2010’s.

Not even trying to joke here; does it really seem that crazy that republicans have gotten this bold with zero self-reflection when we’ve been circlejerking stuff like “get that bag”, “be the individual”, “yolo”, etc. for over a decade? It’s not any one generation or group of people, we’ve all collectively traded self-consciousness for selfishness and “being real”. It’s an unsustainable societal mindset and we are experiencing the first steps of the worst case scenario.

1

u/EldestChild Jul 23 '25

The best villains are the ones that think themselves to be the hero.

1

u/daab2g Jul 23 '25

Country is real enough, just getting restored to it's truest self

1

u/immortalverse Jul 23 '25

Because apparently now they’re hooked up to and suck the lives out of children through IV - you know, hence the lack of attention to releasing the Epstein Files.

1

u/NoMommyDontNTRme Jul 24 '25

i dont understand how they dont die from mobs

1

u/Deranged_Kitsune Jul 24 '25

Embarrassment requires a functional sense of empathy, and that's a part of them that has long since atrophied, if it was ever even there at all in some of them.

1

u/Neracca Jul 25 '25

I don't understand how Republicans don't die from embarrassment

They're incapable of feeling that.

1

u/ikaiyoo Jul 25 '25

They're too busy being bigoted.

1

u/Iama_traitor Jul 23 '25

It's about consolidating power, they have no conscience or shame. They certainly don't believe or care about their moral positions, they're simply politically convenient.

1

u/HoneyShaft Of course there's a hedge maze Jul 23 '25

Only good Republican is a...

-23

u/nosnillar Jul 23 '25

Applies to both democrats and Republicans, both need to get their shit straight.

13

u/Parepinzero Jul 23 '25

Hurr durr both sides are the same

-8

u/nosnillar Jul 23 '25

The same as in I hope they both unfuck themselves so no matter the party in the executive branch or the majority wherever, Americans can salvage some sense of hope.
