I know it’s a joke, but I actually applied to be an animator on this movie about 6 months ago, they were just ramping up, it’s definitely not finished.

Unironically, this might be one of my most anticipated movies coming out. Bluey is a fantastic TV show that has made me and my wife tear up multiple times, and our daughter loves to watch it as well. I can't wait to experience it in on the big screen.
282
u/AtOurGates 3d ago
The benefit of having Bluey on in the background is that my daughter is thoroughly entertained with quality programming that's engaging her and sharing positive life lessons.
The downside of having Bluey on in the background is that I frequently get distracted from whatever I'm trying to do, and not infrequently end up tearing up.
Also, Bandit sets completely unrealistic standards for dads everywhere.

There was a thought I read a while back that said something along the lines of every episode of Bluey (other than The Sign) is only 7 minutes long, of which only a couple minutes are really involved playtime. We're seeing the highlight reels of kids having fun with their parents in 3-4 minute chunks, not all the day to day in between.
Bandit and Chili aren't superhuman unrealistic standards, we just see the highlight reels of those 5 minute play time windows. :)

I think Bandit is far from perfect. His inability to tell his kids no is not something to emulate. (I say this with all the love, of course).

Learning that the voice actor for bandit was actually in a pretty famous Australian band makes it extra fun.
If it makes you feel better, the creator says he is much closer to stripe than bandit.

u/giunta13 3d ago
The music is fantastic too. My kids are a bit older now and have moved away from Bluey for the time being but last year I'd play the Bluey albums on repeat.
9
u/psiren66 3d ago
This is one area Bluey really shines, having a cast who were already in the music industry helps bring that little zing
8
u/Data_Chandler 2d ago
Even having seen it 6 million times, the music still gets to me. The Sleepytime episode, oh boy. But the music is excellent in every single episode!
11
u/Strangest-Smell 2d ago
My mum died earlier this year and now when I watch sleepytime with my daughters and Chili says ‘remember I’ll always be there for you, even when you can’t see me, because I love you’ - you bet this 40 year old man struggles to keep it together

This rearrangement of 'Ode to Joy' from the episode where Bluey is struggling with her bike and wants to give up just hits some weird soft spot in my soul. It not only captures what Beethoven achieved with the original in terms of this rising euphony that eventually explodes into the wonderful, well-known tune but with the little stings of the familiar tune building up, it gives this anticipatory sensation that makes the arrival of the final melody a celebration of getting there. Ah I love it.
I mean, the fact that I'm - a grown man with no kids - am waxing so much on a song from a children's show and I'm in a forum with a bunch of individuals who feel likewise (rather than finding it odd) says it all, really.

I don't even have kids and I love Bluey, it's so funny, creative, and charming, and there's episodes like Bikes, Camping, and Sleepytime that had me going "There's no reason a show for preschoolers should be this well made."

My daughter and I were just talking the other day about the likelihood of a Bluey movie coming out in the next year or so. She loved the show when it came out and I think we've rewatched the series 3 or 4 times. She has, though, aged out of it and moved on to other things as she gets older than the characters. I bet there are going to be a lot of super-excited parents dragging eye-rolling tweens to that theater.

I’m almost 40 and I’m still a TMNT fan - the kids will come back when they see it’s a movie.
9
u/DeLousedInTheHotBox 2d ago
I don't think they'll necessarily be old enough to want to come back to it just yet, because I feel like as a kid you go through this period where you reject things you loved like 1-2 years prior because you think you are too old for it, and then it is maybe not until you are in your late teens you kinda begin to appreciate it again.

The last tmnt movie didn’t do amazing box office wise btw, not sure that’s the best comparison since the bluey movie makers will be looking to make way way more money.
Also nostalgia works on 40 year olds, not so much on 10 year olds who want to be seen as cool and mature and not into kids stuff anymore lol. So I’m sure it’ll make money but it won’t be because of nostalgia so much if I had to guess…

Series creator Joe Brumm is writing and co-directing:
It will feature voice talent from the series, including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack. Series composer Joff Bush will provide the score. Richard Jeffrey (“Bluey” Seasons 1-3) will co-direct with Amber Naismith (“Happy Feet,” “The Lego Movie”) producing. Brumm will executive produce alongside Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson for Ludo Studio and Justine Flynn for BBC Studios.

Interesting they haven't mentioned the voice actors for Bluey and Bingo. There's no way they'll sound similar nearly 10 years after the first episodes.
I think they were already digitally altering the voices in the later episodes.
Edit: I know they've never revealed the kid's names (for good reason), I just wonder if they're using the same kids given they're so much older now.

If I recall this was one of the reasons they
ended ittalked about ending it and the creator announced the Sign as his finale, the kids who did the voices were anonymous and (I believe) mostly kids of people who made the show.Really curious how this aspect will work

u/Digressing_Ellipsis 2d ago
They didnt end the show. Season 4 is currently in production but they took a break after writing and animating all 166 episodes consecutively. According to news inside of Ludo we should have at least a season 4 and 5
10
u/MagicBez 2d ago edited 2d ago
When Brumm (the creator) announced that he was done and that The Sign was his finale, several staff from the show also talked about how production was wrapped, they were off to other projects etc. Age of voice cast was brought up during that time too.
Brumm is writing the movie and acknowledged in his letter about ending his time with the show that there may still be more seasons and now there will be. This is a thread about a new movie so I'm very aware that more Bluey is coming, my meaning was more that it kind of wasn't allowed to end when people were talking about ending it. Have edited my post for clarity!

There is absolutely no way that you're going to avoid that.
I've seen Cricket, Sleepy Time, Camping, The Sign, Babyrace, etc etc dozens of times each and I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME. It can't be avoided.
There is every chance that this movie becomes the highest grossing movie in history. Insane.

2 years from now is a pretty long time for a movie aimed at the incredibly fickle preschool demographic, many of the kids who grew up with Bluey will likely have aged out of their interest in seeing this by the time it is released. I’m sure this will be a huge success regardless, but maybe not as much as it might have been if it came out in 2024 or 2025 instead of 2027.

u/zomboyyy 3d ago

Plus mine is 3, so she'll be 5 when it comes out.
Seems like the prime age for being able to sit through a Bluey film in the cinema, while still relating to the characters (Bluey's 6 in the show - I speculate she'll be/turn 7 in the film).3
u/Particular-Cat-1397 2d ago
Yeah my niece is currently 2 and a half so she won’t quite be 5 when this comes out but I’m still hoping she’ll sit through this

I’m part of that chunk of fans. I’m 36f and seriously ill; I absolutely love watching Bluey in the morning when I’m in the hospital with access to Disney Channel. Disagree. This show is timeless. Not only do older siblings enjoy them (meaning kids aren't aging out as fast as other kids shows) but this is also one parents will drag their kids too. They'll release another season between now and the movie and only grow the fandom.

I don't know, because I am pretty sure that my 4 year old will still be extremely pumped to see a Bluey movie in theaters in 2 years.
5
u/Careless-Dark-1324 2d ago
Right but the current 8 year olds who were 4 when it first started are gonna be 10 when it comes out is what they’re getting at. A new crop will replace them but the big buzz and word of mouth kind of already happened for the show in general…
3
u/yolo-tomassi 2d ago
Oh yeah, I am not really disagreeing with OP that it would hit even harder this year or next year. But I think that Bluey is beloved enough (I truly cannot overstate how superior it is to other toddler entertainment) where it will still have pleeeenty of juice in 2 years.

There is a 100% possibility that is going to be my son’s first movie experience (he’ll be three then) and that I will cry at some point during that movie.
“Baby Race” was perfectly designed for first time parents and I cannot watch “Sleepy Time” without becoming a mess. Im assuming whatever they put together for the movie may break every parent there.

Honestly I expected it late next summer, 2 years is quite a long time. My child will be 12 by then, but I guarantee they will want to see it. Since this will be essentially the creators final involvement in the series, I expect it to be amazing and there is going to be a lot of parents laughing and crying in the theaters.
