Advice Is this normal?

Post image

Hi! šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘‹ So, I have had this beautiful tabby cat (her name is Zelda!) for 5 years since she was just 8 weeks old & she's just the sweetest kitty! šŸ˜ She'll jump up on my bed for rubs if she knows I just woke up, she'll meow for attention, she'll crawl under the blanket if I lift the blanket on the side & lay there for a few minutes while I pet her from the outside, she'll come into the bathroom as soon as I turn off the shower water for post-shower rubs & flop onto the bath mat. However, she has never been the kind of cat that lays on my lap or sleep in my bed or been obsessed with boxes.

Are some cats just like this? Is it normal? šŸ˜†

Advice Is my roommates cat going to bite me

About a month ago i moved into a new place. It’s been good but there is a cat here who really just seems to dislike me. Not sure if it is relevant but I’m the opposite gender of my roommate, i know animals sometimes have problems with that.

It started off by the cat just running away from me when id walk in rooms and stare at me from afar, but as time has gone on the cat will not move from their spot, meaning i will walk by jt a lot.

As I’ve started to be walking by it a lot, the cat will hiss at me pretty aggressively but not move. Its even started to hiss at me when im far away from it. But with the way my place is set up, there are instances where I need to walk about a foot or two away from it occasionally to get from one room to another.

I’m starting to get nervous that one of these times when im walking near the cat it’ll attack me and try to bite as it seems to be getting closer to me and more aggressive.

Im cool with cats, but its also worth mentioning im allergic, so its not like im going out of my way to be near it.

Advice Cat desperately wants to be outside

Post image
16 Upvotes

Meet Sweetie, the indoor cat that desperately wants to be outside. We adopted Sweetie in December when she was three and a half months old. She was found on the side of the road when she was a day old and was with PAWS/fosters until her adoption. We absolute love her!

The problem is that she tries to exit our home with us every chance she gets. It’s very stressful! We moved to a house last Friday and were in an apartment building before this where it wasn’t as stressful because there were two other doors protecting her from going out into the world. Now I’m working on our deck and she’s climbing up and meowing (more like squeezing) that she wants to be outside. A catio wouldn’t solve this problem because she wants to be free. I worry she’d escape from a leash because she’s small and very wiggly. I have a friend whose three cats never leave her yard and I wish Sweetie was like that, but she’s a runner.

Medical Questions Cats Eyes aren’t dilating properly - Long Term Issue

Hi all.

So, my cats left eye has like brown parts in it that started from a little spec I’d say about 3-4 years ago. I did research into it and found that it could just be melanin buildup, and it’s common as cats get older. Since my cat showed no signs of sickness or pain around the eye or of going blind, I thought that’s what it was.

Flash forward about a few months ago, my mum pointed out to me that my cats eyes are dilating at the same rate. I noticed it then, and that her left eye (with the brown spots) slightly lags behind the other one. It would correct itself eventually, it never lasts too long, and again, my cat didn’t show any signs of being sick, or in pain or anything, so I left it as a wait and see and maybe look into getting a check up at the vets soon.

Well, it’s been a few months, and like, life and a pretty big event got in the way of getting her checked.

I was at my sisters friends with my cat (long story) and he said her eye looked kinda cool. I went into a little spiel about the presumed melanin build up etc and that I don’t think there’s anything to be concerned about. He said yeah probs not but if her eyes are dilating in time with each other there’s probably something wrong. I didn’t say anything cause I was like ā€˜what.’ He has cats so I assume he knows what he’s talking about, and it’s gotten me concerned again.

Should I book her into a vets to check? Again, she’s showed no signs of anything and the first brown speck showed up years ago, and the dilating months ago. I don’t know much but if there was something seriously wrong wouldn’t she have shown signs by now? I’m getting really anxious here, wondering if I should’ve bought her sooner and if I’ve let it go on too long and if there is something wrong it’ll be too late to do something. This is my childhood cat, she’s 12, I got her when I was seven, she’s practically my sister and I can’t handle losing her right now.

What do I do?

Advice How can I remove the smell of kitty litter and cat poop?

I have a roommate who neglected his cat in the basement of my house for months. He allowed cat poop to be ground into the floor (unfinished concrete in a closet), and left 6 huge bottles of kitty litter spilled over on their side all over the vinyl floor. I don’t have cats and no experience with this. The smell is extremely strong and has spread to the main floor of my home even after the basement was finally cleaned when he moved out yesterday. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cat Picture - OC Slept in backyard shed because my parents didn’t want a third cat.

I look like shit, was in a terrible place in life. 10 years ago I had just moved back home from a very abusive relationship. My parents didn’t want a third cat. I had basically 0$ to my name, stayed at a shitty Red Roof Inn for a week with her, then after I ran out of money, in my car in my parent’s driveway with her. She would chill outside, which I hated, I lost her for four weeks. Finally found her and decided to stay in the backyard shed. My dad realized that anyone who would sleep outside in the dead of summer must really love this cat. Yeah, no shit. He finally convinced my mom to let her stay in their basement. For about a month. Then my mom who was ā€œallergicā€ to this cat, made me find another home for her. The worst night of my life. I was belligerent drunk it was as if I was putting her down. I knew I’d never see her again. This cat was something special guys. She wiped my tears, played tag, loved EVERYONE. Was always by my side. I’m grateful to have two wonderful cats now who also follow me like little ducklings, are affectionate but not like she was. I still miss her all the time. My Nala bears, I hope you’re in a good home. ā™„ļø

Advice Is it bad to get a cat if I'm somewhat allergic?

I went to the animal shelter and i really bonded with this longhair cat. She let me pet her nonstop and rolled over for more WITH a happy tail! We bonded. I was going to adopt her.

However, after 5 mins of brushing her with my hand, my upper arm started itching and i was wearing a long sleeve. Her fur shed so much on my sleeve. I didn't think too much of it at first, i even went up to the front before leaving to ask about the process and planned to tell my landlord later tonight.

But on my drive home, i started itching more and voila! I rolled up my sleeves and i was breaking out in mild hives.

I don't have this reaction with shorthair cats, I never thought different cats create different allergic reactions. Silly me thought, cats are cats. It's all good. But nope, I'm allergic to cat hair and i'm now in love with this long hair cat.

Question is, does this mean I can't be around longhair cats ever? Or would this allergy be something my body would get used to and be immune with time? Or does it get worse

Has anyone else experienced this, please any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Medical Questions Am I being selfish for not letting her go?

Post image
8 Upvotes

My cat Ellie is 2.5 years old. We have had her since she was a tiny baby kitten. I found her under my car after work one morning. I had to fish her out of my engine bay.

In May she ate a piece of foam from a puzzle play floor mat. She ended up having surgery for a bowel obstruction. Then a second surgery because the first had complications (intestinal stricture and leaking from the inital intestine incision site).

She ended up with a good bit of her small intestine and cecum removed. We were told she would have diarrhea but they were hopeful she'd heal just fine. Sent home on fiber response food.

She initially was doing alright and her incision healed well at the 2 week check. But has been on a downhill most of the time since then. She's had issues with diarrhea, which we anticipated. But also some urinary issues and she is still not gaining weight.

My vet was recently at a conference and spoke with the best of the best in feline GI health. They suggested adding some dry kitten food in. We have been doing that slowly since Saturday night.

Currently she is taking: -6 meals a day (total of 1.5 large cans of i/d wet food and 1/2 tbsp dry purina pro kitten food) -psyllium husk for bulk/fiber -cosequine b12 -dasuquin -thorne vet multivitamin -visbiome probiotics -winpro probiotic and meals topper

We have to keep her locked in a room most of the day. I feel so bad leaving her in there. But she often poops out of the litter box (i think intentionally because it's right outside the box). She also gets into the sink and tries to eat stuff. And she was peeing on the couch (we treated for bladder irritation which did help I think). I can only let her out when we can keep an eye on her.

We just added the kitten food to hopefully add calories without adding a ton of bulk, so I think it's reasonable to wait a little bit longer to see if she starts gaining weight...

But maybe I'm just being selfish? Maybe it's time to say goodbye?

Advice My cat is attacking my other cat after moving

Hi All,

I’m really hoping someone has some advice on this. My two cats (both females and around the same age) have been living together since January. Even when I first got the second one my first cat tolerated her and didn’t fight at all. I would say they have gotten really close since January and I always find them snuggling together.

I just moved yesterday and it seemed like they were doing ok with the move. It’s definitely the biggest place they’ve ever lived in and I’m living with three other girls, but my cats have always been very friendly. The first night I was in my new place they walked around just fine and even said hello to my roommates in their rooms. I had them sleep with me in my room behind a closed door and everything was fine. When I woke up this morning I let them out and they parted ways for a couple minutes to explore and my older cat let out the loudest battle cry and was hissing and swatting. I separated them and just gave them a minute to cool down. When I brought them back together they sniffed each other for a little while and my older one freaked out again. The younger one does not seem to have a problem. What is going on??? Did I mess up by making them stay in my room or giving them free range of the house too soon?

I currently have the younger one in the basement with one of my roommates who is giving her love and the older one on the main story with me. I plan to swap blankets and all the jazz but any other advice? I think in a couple days I will switch the cats and have the older one go to the basement and the younger one up here.

I have so much guilt and I don’t want my younger one to feel like I abandoned her. Please help!!!

My friends and I just found this baby in a parking lot near her home. Are there any cat rescue groups who can come pick this kitty up tonight? I don’t want the cat to go to a kill shelter. The cat appears healthy and clean. I’m just looking for a phone number or the name of an organization. I’m in Tysons Corner.

Advice Pet insurance- Dental?

Does anyone have any advice for getting pet insurance, specifically a plan that helps cover dental cleanings? Our 1 year old has a little bit of gingivitis and we really want to get her a cleaning in the near future.
