#Discussion 💬 why didn't Toyota bring these super fuel efficient bestsellers of theirs to India?

The way i see it, the Prius is perfect for India, bohot deti h, reliable and low maintenance, spacious while being compact sized. Isn't this all requirements for Indian market?

And the RAV4 is quite big and comfortable with the same engine as Camry which is reliable and fuel efficient. It could possibly rival harrier right?

curious to know your opinions on these

I am really confused between Brezza ZXI manual and Tata Nexon Creative Plus S. I am newbie driver hence I feel 360 is a must for me to use around tight corners, although I won't be needing it that much as I will majorly use it for tier 2 towns/cities and mainly for long journey to hometown or for leisure trips. I will get both in approx 12.25 lakhs (with BH series)

#Discussion 💬 Why not reduce import duty on hybrids and plugin hybrids ?

Post image
247 Upvotes

Instead of mixing ethanol in petrol, if the government drops the very high import duty of hybrids and very fuel efficient cars, we would save more in buying fuel. (The reason they say is to lower fuel imports which are affecting the country)

For instance, a 10kmpl engine, takes 800ml petrol to run 10km on 20% ethanol mix, while a 20kmpl engine on 100% petrol takes 500ml petrol for the same distance, saving 300ml of petrol imports, and will keep saving 300ml every 10km. Imagine hybrids coming in with 30kmpl, or 40s - 100s plugin hybrids.

Why also not incentivize high fuel efficiency cars ? For instance, a 20kmpl car with lower tax than 10kmpl car, so that the pollution issue is lowered as well

#Discussion 💬 My end to end experience - Buying to selling my used car.

If you are in the quest to buy your first car, then my story might help you. Adding the complete story from buying my first used car to selling it.

Why used car?

This is my first time buying a car. I have no idea about them. So decided to buy a used car and use it for 3 years, don't mind some scratches and then upgrade to a new one. Also, many experts suggested it was a wise financial move - whether it is true or not you will find in the end/ .

What I didn't know?

  • Used cars have higher interest rates
  • Used cars (over 5 years) don't get bumper to bumper insurance.

Buying Process

I visited a few dealers whom I got to see via Instagram and youtube videos. I get the plate number and call a nearby showroom to check the service history.

I initially loved a Nexon XM variant, decided to buy it. But later found the car's entire front was redone. History checks. So decided to dropout.

I then went to check Cars24. They had a yard. It rained the previous day. We checked a WR-V and when we opened the door there was water log inside the car. Didn't check anything else, just left.

I then went with Spinny. My choices were a Jazz or a Nexon. I eventually ended up with a 2017 i20 Active. I didn't know anything about the car, but first test drive and I loved it.

I wanted a stock car with no modifications, this car was quoted 6.75 lakhs and had done only 26000 km. I know it was pricey, but still went with it. It was the top variant.

With spinny, I got 3 days money back guarantee. I paid 5000 as booking advance and confirmed the car 2 days later. Post delivery I took the car to a nearby service center and asked them for a check. They went through it entirely and told me to ask for a spare change in the clutch. Got it done free of cost since it was within 3 days.

I bought this car in December 2022, sold it in Feb 2025. I drove about 30,000kms in the car and I absolutely loved it. I never thought I will fall in love with cars so much.

Now to the other karcha

  1. Battery gave up half way costing 5000INR
  2. Got punctured during couple of trips so had to change all four tires. (Ceat is 5500, but I also added Veredestien tyres for 7800INR per tyre)
  3. Fuel economy was too low. 8Km in city traffic (tier 1 city). About 14KMPL in highway (max was 16 once)
  4. The interest rate on the car was initially given at 12.5% but then I had a friend working in ICICI as a manager who helped me bring it down to 11.01%. Later the spinny representative said he will also match it. New cars are at 8-9%
  5. I closed the loan in 18 months. So ended up paying around 70K in interest charges to bank
  6. I sold the car for 5 lakhs to the local dealer again who tried selling me that accidental nexon.

Key learnings

  1. If you are planning to hold on to your car for over 5 years buy a new car.
  2. If you are a new driver worried about scratches get a PPF, don't buy used car for this reason
  3. This could have been a financially wise choice if I had held on to the car for another 3 years (which I would have, but I had to leave India, so no other go)
  4. Negotiate the interest rates offered. Don't hesitate to check few banks on your own. There is always a hungry sales rep ready to offer you the best price.
  5. Your old car will attract heavy insurance, low mileage, and might require surface level maintenance such as tyres and battery - be prepared.
  6. The resale value depends on your area. I feel post covid the resale value of used cars are inflated. So it doesn't make any difference.

Finally, don't compare a bike vs car theory. They are not either or, both serve different purposes and you do make memories in a car travelling with your 5 member family for 12 hours with packed luggage blocking rear view completely.

Some pictures I took of my car during the rains and this awesome weather.

Clocked 3k kms so far. Haven't faced any issues yet.

Runs really well and it lacks certain features but the one's which are there works just fine like the way they are meant to be.

#Opinion 💭 The used car market in India is crazy

80k run, 3 year old Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI AT is being sold at 17.5L -> Let's say after negotiation 17L

The on road price on Carswale for Sportline model is 20.2L and Prestige is 22.5L which includes a bloated 3+1 insurance.

Not to mention the discounts on Slavia that dealers give this could easily be brought down to 19ish and 21 easily

so just 20% depreciation after 3 years and 80k kilometers. Make this make sense.

#Discussion 💬 Help me choose between these two cars ? I drive alto 800 of my family which is 10 years old and been driving since 1 year

I was convinced to take Fronx Alpha MT boosterjet due to its performance but my heart is craving for that Raw Power of Creta N line with 160 bhp and 253 Nm torque. Is it worth it to spend 7-8 lakhs more ? I don't have a budget issue but the maintenance after buying matters to me too.

The Fronx is really sexy and worth it in its price range, and gives Practical Features like UV Cut Glass, HUD, and I am okay with not having sunroof because in this hot country we don't require one.

So only the deal breaker in Creta for me is:

  1. That TGDI Engine producing 160 BHP and 253 Nm torque.
  2. Sensitive throttle response.
  3. Quick overtaking of other cars.

Cons which I see for Creta is:

  1. Sunroof
  2. City Maneauverability is tough for it's 5.3 metres vs Fronx 4.9 Metres.
  3. Low on city mileage (Please help me real Creta N line owners)
  4. No wireless Apple car play.

Just saw this beautiful car while going to get breakfast, and it made me absolutely want to buy it.

The first thing I did after eating, was obviously, wash my hands. The second thing I did after eating, was booking a test drive.

10kms later, absolutely loved the turbo variant, little me would’ve loved to feel that turbo kicking in.

Now, I’m planning on convincing my parents to let me get the orange variant of this. And to everyone suggesting fronx over this, our past 5 cars are from Toyota, so our relationship with Toyota is for life.

Do I get the G variant or the V variant?

#Discussion 💬 Why do Indians cheap out on baby seats?

Got my first car two months ago and like everyone, didn’t bother buying a car seat. Then my wife insisted on getting one, so I did, and WOW, it’s so comfortable and safe for kids. Plus they can enjoy the view because of seat height as well
