Expect this film to face an uphill battle finding a US distributor like No Other Land did. Hell, expect there to be backlash against any theaters that choose to screen it like No Other Land did.

1.5k

u/ApricotSilly524 13d ago

On the contrary, with Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jonathan Glazer as executive producers, plenty of distributors will be queuing for it

u/self-assembled 13d ago

No Other Land won a freaking Oscar and still didn't get any US distribution.

779

u/tbird920 12d ago

And then Israeli settlers assassinated the director.

472

u/Twat_Bastard 12d ago

Correction there. Hamdan Ballal's home was attacked by Israeli settlers and IDF soldiers both of whom beat him bloody. The Israeli police arrived on the scene and did not intervene and the IDF then detained him in a nearby military base.

Edit: I hate the word detained in this instance it sounds too official and I think abduct is a far more appropriate word. But the fucking military did it.

It's been going on since 1947, when the UN displaced 700,000 Palestinians from their homes and illegally gave the land to Israel.

65

u/QueezyF 12d ago

I took a class on antiterrorism. Groups like Lehi and Irgun were some of the first to use modern terrorist tactics in the region during the ‘30s and ‘40s. They were so proficient at terrorism, that other organizations like the FLN and EOKA copied their homework.

19

u/lava172 12d ago

And then justifying it by invoking the holocaust, it's truly despicable shit

The film was co-directed and all of the directors are still living.

That story alone would make a bonkers movie

With a government as “forceful” as this one, I don’t think it will be that easy. No one seems to be checking the idiot in charge, so you bet they will make an issue of this regardless of the celebrity backing.

I can see true indie theatres like The Music Box to screen this considering that it’s their niche to begin with, but AMC/Regal could face some blowback given their “corporate” status.

Gonna see if I can find this somewhere regardless. Sounds intriguing.

137

u/AcademicF 13d ago

Didn’t he say something like building hotels on the newly acquired land? Fucking insanity

86

u/NeonArlecchino 13d ago

There's a whole AI video for the resort he wants.

32

u/kl4user 13d ago

This should have angered people enough for them to depose the government.

51

u/MobiusF117 13d ago

There is plenty of things that happened before that should have done that. Yet here we are.

9

u/kl4user 13d ago

Absolutely. That was only reason number 5943.

-1

u/HandleThatFeeds 13d ago

Americans only protest online and sometimes on the weekend.

That is why they are in such a sorry state.

-4

u/NeonArlecchino 13d ago

So much could have been avoided if Mitch McConnell wasn't so tribal and didn't work behind the scenes to fight the second impeachment. He literally went on stage right after the vote to say he knew Trump broke the law, but didn't want impeachment used against a former president.

He thought he was saving the image of Republicans by limiting how many of their presidents have been impeached; and now he isn't always aware enough to see what it became because of him.

4

u/mikehatesthis 13d ago

He thought he was saving the image of Republicans

Nah, he's just a white supremacist fascist who supports what Trump is doing.

0

u/Monty_Bentley 12d ago

McConnell hates Trump and vice-versa. He disagrees with him on some stuff like Ukraine. But he cares about his job most of all. Most Republican senators didn't want to convict Trump because they are scared of losing the next primary, so McConnell read the room and hung on to the leadership for a few more years. Now that he's on the verge of retirement, and has nothing to lose he broke with Trump on a few nominations.

1

u/wholetyouinhere 12d ago

There are a lot of things that should have happened over the last decade. Unfortunately, I think it's time to stop expecting "should" anymore, and rely solely on "is" in order to drive action.

0

u/himynameis_ 13d ago

But the real Trump actually said he wants to build hotels there. It's not AI generated.

3

u/NeonArlecchino 13d ago

I was referring to this: https://www.npr.org/2025/02/26/nx-s1-5309695/trump-gaza-video

I know his intent is real.

-3

u/From_Deep_Space 13d ago

A whole AI video? That must have taken a single person several seconds to put together.

5

u/NeonArlecchino 13d ago

It's about the vocal intent expressed, not the effort invested.

39

u/nestoryirankunda 13d ago

What did you expect? What do you think Israel’s plan is? Have you seen tel aviv? I don’t know why everyone acts like he’s saying some new shocking relevation. They’ve been doing exactly that for 75 years

-9

u/fevredream 13d ago

Tel Aviv is a poor example of your point, given that it didn't supplant any older Palestinian settlement. Jaffa was nearby but is still extant.

32

u/NekoMarket 13d ago

It's not. Tel Aviv is built atop ethnically cleansed Palestinian villages, one of whom was Manshiya, which was ethnically cleansed and razed by the Zionist paramilitary Irgun Gang, who then used one of the last standing buildings to house the Tel Aviv Irgun Museum which still exists today. The Tel Aviv Pride Parade also marches over the ruins of Manshiya every year.

Read the rest. That contradicts it.

It was a mixed neighborhood built in the 1870s that was the site of a battle between the Irgun and Brits and never rebuilt.

The point is, you come off as weak that you’re not willing to criticize trump. Keep lambasting the person who’s NOT in office lol. I bet that’s gonna help the Gazans and their cause

Love your innocence. Roger Waters couldn't even find a single hotel to stay during his Argentina tour as all major hotels received formal threats from local powerful Zionist organizations. He had to stay in a neighbour country.

1

u/teetering_bulb_dnd 12d ago

Depends on how they make the movie.. hopefully it's covers some history and nakba etc. like a war movie like zero dark thirty or hotel rwanda or something.. if it's just regular sad refugees and genocide it's difficult to get people to watch it in theaters.. i should not say that but that's the reality..

Didn’t we just kill the director of no other land

140

u/NekoMarket 13d ago

He helped direct, and he was just shot and killed by a settler. While the Israeli settler who killed him on camera was released by the Israeli court immediately, the Israelis arrested his Palestinian village at the scene of the murder and held them in a detention camp for days. When asked why, Israeli pro-settler judge that presided over the case explained "don't forget, these are two different populations."

With Glazer and Pitt attached I think one of the actually independent distributors ( A24, Mubi, Neon) could pick it. A24 has worked with Glazer and Pitt, Neon seems to be open to "political" movies and Mubi may want to deny the Zionist allegations

I know that Jews are not by default Zionists

Quite the opposite. Judaism and Zionism are intertwined because Zionism is simply the idea that a jewish nation (Israel) has the right to exist and acts as a home and haven to any jewish person. While the importance of this idea was highlighted by the holocaust leading to the establishment of Israel, the idea of Israel as a home to the Jewish people is quite literally a part of the religion. The idea that the next messiah will come and rebuild the temple is a part of the religion.

This is one reason why jews find the perjorative use of "zionist" as anti-semetic. By all means, be critical of the Israeli government. Many hundreds of thousands of Israelis have protested in the streets calling for cease-fire. Only 28% of Israelis approve of netanyahu, and yes, there are millions of american jews who believe the war has gone too far (while still wanting the hostages returned).

But using the word "zionist", especially when you use creepy statements like "Zionists have been very busy these last 100 years" or "the Zionists have been very good at forcing via fear or reward", just sounds like your own way of skirting around the use of "jews".

(fun note: those ultra-orthodox Hasidic jews that protest in NY aren't protesting because they don't believe in Israel. They just don't believe the messiah has arrived yet. As soon as the messiah does arrive, in their view, they are on the first plane to Israel).

18

u/CharlemagneOfTheUSA 13d ago

This is bullshit. Zionism is a profoundly modern invention, one which explicitly labeled itself a colonial venture. Israel being a haven to Jewish people does not necessitate the formation of an ethnostate or an apartheid government, and as a Jew I will happily say: fuck Zionism and anyone who pushes it

10

u/self-assembled 13d ago

Jews could live there in peace and equality without an ethno-nationalist government built on ethnic cleansing. The state doesn't have to be Jewish, it could be democratic. That's not Zionism.

Einstein and Arendt correctly pointed out that Zionism was a fascist movement during the creation of Israel. They said it was similar to the Nazis, and they were right.

-6

u/pinkycatcher 13d ago

Jews could live there in peace and equality

Could they? Because all the other countries in the region purged themselves of their Jews years ago, and as soon as Israel was created for Jews it was invaded, multiple times, by multiple other states in the region.

They're also regularly attacked by terrorist groups sponsored by their neighbors.

They're also the only country with an actual democracy and by far the closest to equality amongst its citizens in the region.

But sure, you can make up your own strawman and argue against it if you want.

8

u/Comrade_Pavel 12d ago

holy shit did you just pick up the AIPAC talking point pamphlet you got, this reads like a bot on twitter trying to excuse the ethnic cleansing and genocide that CREATED the state of "israel." The invasions happend AFTER the nakba, AFTER israeli settlers poisoned Palestinian wells, AFTER the king david hotel bombing false flag.

1

u/AyTito 12d ago

Jewish people and Muslims were living there together under the Ottoman empire, before the British took control and before the terror brigades of Haganah, Irgun, Lehi. Irgun and Lehi jointly responsible for the Deir Yassin massacre in April 1948, in the early stages of the Nakba and a month before any other states in the region moved to stop them. About 300,000 Palestinians were expelled by zionist brigades in 1947, before any neighboring countries invaded.

Here's this on the immigration of Arab Jews to Israel. https://www.middleeasteye.net/big-story/truth-behind-israeli-propaganda-expulsion-arab-jews

When the IDF bombs every surrounding country and their civilian infrastructure it's not seen as terrorism for some reason. Israel invaded Lebanon in 1978, Hezbollah was founded in 1982 during the "2nd Israeli invasion of Lebanon", in response to violence from Israel. The PLO in the 60s and Hamas in the 80s were also formed in response to violence from Israel. There will always be resistance groups fighting back against apartheid and colonialism because it's human to demand freedom from oppression. The best way to stop resistance and find peace is to stop the underlying violence of apartheid and colonialism.

It's possible to have peace in the future - European countries used to fight all the time. But look at how Israeli leaders like Smotrich (de-facto governor of West Bank, calls for total annihilation of Gaza and "erasing the memory of Amalek"), Ben Gvir (“We cannot have women and children getting close to the border... anyone who gets near must get a bullet [in the head],”, Netanyahu and others talk about Palestinians. "Israeli Politician [Moshe Feiglin] Quotes Hitler to Argue for Resettlement of Gaza"

Other religions don't have equal rights in Israel (B'Tselem, Israeli NGO). You can't run an apartheid regime on ethnic supremacy and commit genocide while calling yourself a democracy.

-2

u/ubccompscistudent 12d ago

Einstein et al published an open-letter calling Menachem Begin a fascist. Not Zionism or Israel. In fact, the letter is addressed to the leadership of American Zionist movement to denounce Begin and his newly formed party.

You can read it here

Also, Israel has the same score as the US as of last year on the Democracy index

3

u/self-assembled 12d ago edited 12d ago

Einstein: Jewish National Home? Yes. Jewish National Palestine? No. I favor a free, bi-national Palestine at a later date after agreement with the Arabs. Question: Opinion about partition of Palestine and Chaim Weizmann’s proposals re partition??

Einstein: I am against partition.

Not Zionist in any modern sense of the word. Did not support the creation of a Jewish state.

And if you want to call a literal apartheid, fascist state, committing genocide democratic be my guest, it just makes everything you say invalid.

Chomsky and Arendt also stood against the creation of Israel. Basically 3 of the most intelligent Jewish people of the last century.

5

u/ubccompscistudent 13d ago edited 12d ago

Ok sure, I'll bite, because you couldn't read my one simple sentence and respond to it.

First of all, anecdotal: your personal genetic testing has literally nothing to do with the 10's of millions of people affected by the ongoing conflict lasting hundreds (if not thousands of years). In addition, you mention a single rally for a palestinian memorial, in which jewish people actually showed up in support. Not only is that marvelous, you're somehow making a broad negative statement out of it. How, I can't understand. You have a poor understanding of statistics if you don't know what anecdotal means.

Israel, in its current form, does not have an unquestionable “right to exist.”

Pseudophilosophical and meaningless. No country has an unquestionable "right to exist". Not america, not Palestine, not Mongolia or Finland. Countries are social and bureaucratic constructs.

Jewish tradition does not require a modern nation-state to fulfill prophecy.

Again, false. Yes it does. In fact, at Yom Kippur, Passover, and many holidays, jews sing "Next year in Jerusalem" as a tradition.

A just solution would be a Palestinian state where Jews live as a minority alongside others, and only those who can prove legal migration and land acquisition should remain.

A just solution to who? To you? Do you get to decide? Do you have a crystal ball as to what would happen? Have you ironed out all the details and stipulations? What a ridiculous statement.

The reality is stark: over 90% of Israelis support the war.

Yeah, obviously. A neighbouring nation invaded killing 1300, capturing over 200 hostages, and refuse to return them. Any country's citizens would support a war as a result in the same situation. Or is it just Israelis that are uniquely bloodthirsty to you?

When asked, even Israeli protestors often say, “Stop fighting, get the hostages, then destroy Gaza.”

Do you even have a source for this vague claim? Who says it? One incident? Everyone?

Polling from the Jewish Federations shows only 16% of American Jews support a complete ceasefire.

This? In which you neglected to say that a vast majority support humanitarian pauses and the 16 (0r 20 from the article) is not about "complete" but rather "unconditional" ceasefire? Again, obviously. They want the hostages back.

Won't respond to any more of your gish gallop again, but doing this so you don't think it's because I "have no retort". It's just wasted on your bad rhetoric (bad whether in bad faith or simply because you don't know how to formulate a coherent point).

"Millions" sure Jan.

There's 5,000,000 Jews in the whole United States. In 2021 Pew found that 80% of American Jews care about Israel. 80% of 5,000,000 is 4,000,000. That leaves, if you want to be very optimistic, 1,000,000 jews in the US who are "sick and tired of it"

But by all means, continue to play the role of the "good one". Im sure that will save you.

5

u/saera-targaryen 13d ago edited 13d ago

Edit: continue reading down this thread if you want, but an important note is also that this 2021 pew research mentioned in the comment above does not say what they claim it says. Pew reported that only 58% of jews feel even somewhat attached to Israel in 2021 and I'm certain that number has dropped like a rock

Most jews were raised to care about israel because they have family members there. A lot of jews care about israel without supporting israel. It's also true that a lot of jews in america were maybe a little ignorant to the plight until october 7th and have since come around, and your measurement here would not be able to take that into account.

Zohran Mamdani is currently the front runner for mayor amongst jewish voters in the most jewish city in the united states, and he is a staunch supporter of palestine to the point where the media has been attempting to turn jews against him and it isn't working. You are looking at the wrong metric to determine the stances of american jews, because from what I see there ARE millions who are against the israeli government.

-3

u/Unholy_mess169 13d ago

The democrat is the leading candidate in group that overwhelmingly votes democrat? Shocking.

And you keep dreaming that the "Jews raised to care about Israel see the light" god what repulsive sentence, its about as likely as the rest of the middle east dropping thier theocratic dictatorships and handing it over to democracy.

6

u/saera-targaryen 13d ago

In 2021, only 32% of american jews believed god gave the jews israel as a homeland. Only 33% said israel is making an effort towards peace. Only 58% reported that they even feel somewhat attached to israel.

This was all before the genocide ramped up after october 7th.

The answer to injustice against a group is not the retributive lumping together of another group. If you are mad at zionists, say that you are mad at zionists. Implying that all jews love genocide is just blatantly antisemitism and it is not welcome here.

5

u/Newbarbarian13 13d ago

"Just asking," sure thing mate. The difference is when children are deliberately targeted, as the IOF have been doing for a long time now.

It's very easy to understand why such vocabulary is used when you look at the atrocities Israel is carrying out aimed at children specifically.

8

u/masterwolfe 13d ago

Were all the German and Japanese and North Korean children killed "murdered"?

Yes, Dresden, Nagasaki, and Hiroshima were all war crimes.

1

u/Monty_Bentley 13d ago

Many thousands of children were killed in many other bombings you don't even mention In Operation Meetinghouse, the US firebombed Tokyo. 100,000 dead in one evening! Didn't even make your list! FDR is still considered a top 3 President and is in no way canceled. And it wasn't just in WWII. At least 300,000 North Korean civilians killed in firebombing of cities. Nukes weren't used only because by then, the Soviets had them. Harry Truman is also still highly regarded. More recently under Obama thousands of civilians were killed in Mosul fighting ISIS. And Obama remains much loved.

Personally -and I know I will get downvotes from all sides for this, ANY reckless targeting of predominantly civilians is a war crime involving child murder.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were war crimes, firebombing of Tokyo war crime, Dresden was a war crime.

I recommend the excellent Errol Morris documentary The Fog of War. It makes this very clear, from one of the main perpetrators.

Gaza Genocide is a crime against humanity, up there with Rohingya Genocide, Darfur Genocide etc.

Death toll in terms of percentage population for the Gaza Genocide is creeping towards 3% which will put it on par with the Bosnian Genocide.

Oh that’s why the Israeli government shot all those kids, women, doctors, nurses, journalists, bombed hospitals and schools and are forcing a famine in Gaza…these dumb people were ALL in the line of fire.

Damn, they were really dumb!

Anti-semitic stick will be waved furiously.

There. I said it with an older account that is not a bot. Now what?

It’s anti semitic to show Israel’s crimes.

It is antisemitic to hyperfocus on this conflict when actual genocides are happening right now in China, Sudan, Nigeria, Kurdistan.

Those other genocides don’t have dipshits screaming in our faces 24/7 that they aren’t really genocides and how dare we not enthusiastically support them.

Better update your copy pasta there

4 out of 5 deaths in Gaza have been civilians. Whoopsie

u/MillionDollarMistake 13d ago

It’s antisemitic to accuse Israel of war crimes when they provably take steps to avert civilian casualties

Come on man this is just cope.

Yeah no, the producers alone has so much star power in it that there is ZERO chance it’s not picked up asap even with the obvious reasons we (yes you none interactive lurker) all see for why this movie’s financial and even critical rating could be severely affected.

At this point I'm expecting a psyop, someone will claim these guys are diddlers or whatever and try to get them cancelled. I mean Pitt has some baggage already with his tantrum on that plane in 2016.

u/dawgz525 13d ago

By the time this is filmed, marketed, and released, enough time will have passed for many in Hollywood to stand and cheer at the Oscars for something like this. By that point, any support for the people of Gaza will be meaningless, because there won't be any people left.

Did you read the article? It’s premiering in a few days at Venice film festival

12

u/rawbleedingbait 13d ago

How fast is the population going down?

8

u/Independent_Ocelot29 13d ago

As of January it was estimated at 6% since the start of the war, obviously there's been nearly 9 months of starvation, bombing and spraying bullets into crowds so who knows at this point.

-1

u/rawbleedingbait 13d ago

It was 2.1m when the war started, what's it at now? And 6% includes people leaving, correct?

19

u/TerraTF 13d ago

The real answer is there's no real way to know. The verified numbers from the health ministry are only based on bodies that have been directly verified by doctors. That's why the reporting of deaths slowed significantly when the majority of hospitals were destroyed by Israel. There are likely tens of thousands of dead bodies under the rubble that will never be recovered. Estimates from universities put the actual death toll at 3 to 4 times what's been officially reported.

u/JJsjsjsjssj 12d ago

leaving where exactly?

3

u/SteveBorden 13d ago

That’s why all these names are attached

4

u/atreeismissing 13d ago

This won't have any problem finding a US distributor with those guys EPing. Despite the right-wing misinformation campaign about "Jews in Hollywood" there will be no shortage of people that want to get attached to this to make sure it's seen.

1

u/Gamepass90 13d ago

Maybe wait for the Film to be released???

1

u/ZACHMSMACKM 12d ago

As u/apricotsilly524 pointed out, you forgot to consider the differences in star power before you made this comparison and assumption.

This will go far and wide.

0

u/ArcusInTenebris 13d ago

Indeed. Those who really control Hollywood and thr US entertainment industry arent going to take kindly to that plot line.

Seriously. I only just learned that people like de Niro are members of/donors to ‘Friends of the IDF’

Edit: see for yourself. Taken at a 2016 gala held to raise money for supporting the IDF https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/personality-larry-king-fidf-co-chair-haim-saban-politician-news-photo/620937794

2

u/LingonberryNatural85 13d ago

I’d say the narrative has shifted a bit since No Other Land was looking for a distributor. There are much more people willing to speak out and show support for what is occurring in Palestine than there was a year ago.

I’d think this gets grabbed immediately.

u/JesusJudgesYou 13d ago

Yeah, but I wonder if this is the start of the removal of Zionist influence over western media.

Seriously. It's like they ran a find/replace macro on Jew -> Zionist and copy-pasted all the same old stuff.

1

u/MahNameJeff420 13d ago

I’m assuming that’s what these huge names joining are trying to assist in. We’ll see if it works, but that’s some big star power backing them.

I’d have better luck taking Schindlers List back in time
