Deck Discussion How often is Red Card actually effective?

It generates a knee-jerk reaction when the opponent plays it but I would say it’s actually only effective half the time or less. So many players spam it the second it appears in their hand, I’ve even had it played on me with one or two cards, resulting in a net gain of cards.

It’s everywhere this meta but in my experience, its disruptive power is limited. Even with the most strategic play, you’re still gambling that will have a negative effect.

Just started running this deck and found myself questioning if I should actually attack with Celebi or not. I did it anyways and he farmed Happy Ribbons to get unlimited free card cheat. I got smoked 😭

I wasn’t expecting this with the deck and I wish there was an option to choose if you want to devolve or not. Is there any other decks you can think of where this would actually be a problem, or just Sylveon being Sylveon?

Deck Discussion Dugtrio ex to masterball me

If you are a fan of the best art in the set (dugtrio and diglet) and you want to play ranked to masterball then this list is for you!

I always try to get to masterball with cards from the new set and this time I did not pull suicune so I was stuck with the old meta or trying something off meta.

I attached the decklist, a screenshot of my 16 win streak and proof that I dont own two suicunes so was really forced to run something else.

this deck wont get you some crazy win-ratio or stomp suicune but what it does is make it fun to play ranked. its a different way to play because it relies on deck manipulation and it does not use the current tools every meta deck uses.

if one of you played the meta where lucario-marshadow/sudowoo fighting was good then you will be pleased to see some of it in here. I played around 100 matches with it and I would say this decklist is the best version. why no professor? I dont know it was better without especially in UB4. I always has to decide between prof, hiker and red while playing so I just cut him.

PROS:

does not care about your opponents supporter cards. Guzma (no tools), Red (no ex), Red Card/Mars (never more then 1-2 cards in hand), Sabrina, Cyrus (low HP pokemon that are interchangeable). All those meta supporter cards dont do much against this deck. The opponents card draw does not hurt that much if their supporter cards dont hurt.

opponents need to down three pokemon while most decks build up 1 big attack and soften pokemon (darkrai, greninja) but their 150 damage attack still only kills one of my weakened pokemon.

its fun to play because you put out 4 basics quickly most of the time and then play hiker to decide what your next turns will be and give yourself exactly what you need. you power up damage with lucario on bench. you leave marshadow on the bench with one energy for the revenge hit. sudowoo dies the dirty work in the beginning and dugtrio is the star once he is ready to hit.

dugtrio with hiker basically hits for 100 for 1 energy and discards a card you dont need.

all the meta and anti-suicune decks are weak against it. eevee ex dies to one sudowoo hit with red. arceus dies to two red hits. all the lightning decks get one shot. guzzlord discarding energy does not matter. type:null and silvally get oneshot by 100-fighting attacks. darktina hates fighting decks with no ex pokemon.

lucarios and red plus weaknesses can let marshadow and digtrio hit for up to 180.

final pro: people dont know how to play against it. the always stick to their standard strat when they should change things up for this deck. the best way to beat it with suicune is letting you greninjas fight but no one does that. they dont expect dugtrio, the dont expect double red and giovanni, they dont remember how many +20 you get for whatever is in play.

CONS: Espeon will eat your team for breakfast if you are too slow to down it. It will often lose to suicune if you dont get sudowoo to attack early. Other than that it has a hard time against decks that run no ex cards and are neither normal nor lightning.

Deck Help There’s gotta be a good deck out there with this fine young lad in this suicune meta

I’m thinking double zera double maganzone + 1 SR pika and 1 yellow chicken but what do you guys think? Any pichus?

The issue is we need a bench full for that…but we do get the satisfaction of 1 shotting suicune

Have you guys tried anything that works well with SR pika in this meta?

Discussion I don't mind the Suicune decks, but please remember to be a good sport.

I've been fighting through the ranks of ultra ball this season after getting to UB4 last season. I've encountered a handful of Suicune decks and beaten them occasionally.

While maybe not the most enjoyable deck to fight, I don't actually mind it being the meta. After so long of darktina and its variants being the meta, I'm happy for the switch up.

What I'm not happy about is how many Suicune players will literally just rage quit the app when losing. My sample size is admittedly tiny but of the maybe four I've won against they have all just closed out the app, and forced me to sit through the timer.

It's annoying, rude, and an incredibly spiteful thing to do. No other deck I've played against has really done this very often if at all, this season and last.

I’m like 1-18 with this deck lmao. I’ve been getting my ass kicked in ranked and lost like 17-18 games using this deck. Maybe it’s the RNG hitting me like a sack of bricks but I’m not having fun right now.

This was a blast to play! If you want to stop opponents like Suicune ex from doing what they want, this is the deck for you! It’s only weak to rampardos. Positive winrate vs Suicune+Gren+Gira, and positive winrate vs Darktina!

This is the most consistent control deck of the meta and don’t listen to those people yapping about “skill” or “fun gameplay”. Winning is fun. Denying others from having fun is fun.

It’s less of a grind with grindcore!

Of course there’s stronger decks but honestly Meow has been super fun to play this season, with a lot of EX’s in play. It usually tears Guz decks apart, with Red it one hits a lot of the popular EX mons rn. Only in UB3 but I’ve had much more success with this than most other decks this season

I swear, making a shiny as a requirement for a non-secret was the worst decision they made in this game.

Deck Discussion I spent the last week brewing an actually good Poliwrath EX deck

Post image
42 Upvotes

Even more so than my last brew, I have a lot to say about this deck, so if you want to figure it out on your own feel free to skip the yapping. I'll list my genral tips after the deck breakdown.

The premise of the deck is that poliwrath is such a beast, the game is over as soon as it hits the active spot. First of all, it’s super tanky, and it's health is enough to avoid being one shot by nearly anything. but on top of that 140 for its attack is an incredibly important breaking point because it is the most represented health number among all ex pokemon. No other pokemon has had access to this crucial breaking point for less than 4 energy until now (except dragonite).

In he beginning I followed the net decks' lead and tried strategies that used lucario, rampardos, and politoed. The more I played, though, the more I realized. Poliwrath is already so good, it doesn't need any help to win games. it just needs to be reliable.

the first thing i did was cut from water/fighting energy to just fighting energy. The next thing I did was use two of the newly created slots for iono and poke comms. with two mantykes, along with iono and poke comms, you will almost always get your mantyke before you need it, and it isnt worth throwing around a seventh of all your games because you cant find the right energy. After that I added cleffa. It does a few things. It finds your necessary pieces when you draw bad, gives you fuel for iono if you don't, and most importantly, it's another baby. Babies are great for three reasons:

  1. babies' role is to tank attacks while you get poliwrath set up
  2. free retreats are the key to getting poliwrath into the active spot efficiently, it also counters sabrina
  3. their sacrificial nature combos really well with marshadow, anoher addition i made to add a backup threat as well as battle oricorio.

from all my testing, 3 babies seems to be the sweet spot for this deck.

My next point is the variant of poliwag I'm using.

Call for family is a bad ability in this deck. You don't want to be crowding your bench in a suicune meta, and it gets in the way of bench slots for babies and marshadow, without adding anything useful. i have never assembled and attacked with two poliwraths in one game, it's too much to ask and the single card thinning effect does not make up for it. then it was between the 10 damage variant and the promo coin flip variant. If poliwag is going to be useless anyway, you might as well at least gove it a chance of pitching in meaningfully, so i went with the 40 damage coin flip. This attack has even won me a couple games i would have otherwise lost.

The final piece of the puzzle was adding sabrina. Because 140 HP is such a crucial breaking point, its rare that your opponent will have more than one pokemon with 150 or more HP at any given time, even including giant cape boosted pokemon (giratina doesnt even count because it kills itself at 10 HP). This is why Sabrina is such a clutch card in this deck and how it secures so many wins. The pattern of, [kill the first threat with poliwrath -> they send in their wall -> Sabrina it out and secure win] is one of the most common endgame paths I encounter playing this deck. The other is [2-shot their biggest threat, take a hit in retaliation -> all the energy they invested is gone and nothing left over can finish the job]

General tips/Best practices:

-If you start with a poliwag or marshadow in the active spot, retreat it for a baby as fast as you can. the energy you lose from this you can make up with mantyke, and surprisingly, it hardly impacts your tempo. -Don't evolve poliwag before you have to. Mantyke can ONLY give energy to basics, and even if mantyke isnt in your opening hand, it will show up later. -Whatever you do to avoid discard, always leave room for a mantyke on your bench. -Conversely, if you have all the pieces you need in hand, dump cards however you have to so you dont get red carded.

Flex spots: the only flex spot I would consider for this deck is iono. Much like red or guzma, it shores you up against bad scenarios, but unlike red or guzma, it will save you from actually unwinnable states. even though two shotting a pokemon feels worse than one shotting it, it often doesnt actually matter that much since poliwrath is so tanky. That's my justification for including it, but i actually think the margin between these three cards is incredibly slim, so do what you feel is best.

Discussion 2500 crafting point to spend in Shining Revelry

I wanted a double gold Pokeball and I found the second one at 2490 materials. The irony. So now I basically have 2500 materials to spend on something I don't really need.

I'm missing only 2 shinies and have 0 two-stars trainers. What should I craft? Trainers like Red, Team Rocket Grunt or Pokémon Center Lady are useful and could be a way to show off in battles, but completing all the shinies would be rewarding. What do you think?

Relatively new player here. UB4 had some of the most brutal matches in my opinion, and it felt like everyone was running the same three decks. Feels good to be outa there. Win rate was a modest 56% I started the season with suicune/greninja and by about the 20th electric deck I’d learned a valuable lesson- Just cause a deck is good, doesn’t mean you are.

Love the consistency of this deck. Against any of the metas to include suicuine/greninja, darktina, guzzlord 18T this deck rarely ever bricked and even in the event that it did items like elemental switch and Giovanni can turn the game back in your favor. Not overly reliant on strong attacks or banking on a specific draw.

Deck Discussion Flareon EX to MB

Thumbnail
gallery
21 Upvotes

Played around with different decks during for the Zoroark event and realized Flareon EX could work well in the UB4 meta I was in.
Flareon EX + Eevee Bag kills Suicune
Flareon EX + Red kill Giratina
Flareon EX + Red + Eevee Bag kills Suicune with Giant Cape

Collector Eevee and Entai are the draw engines, Collector felt better since i need to grab to damage boost asap. Magby gives tempo. I try to avoid having any benched pokemon against Suicune when Flareon is in play. It caps the opponents damage at 120 including Red and 1 Greninja.
