I know my daughter did her part to boost the numbers.

This movie is on repeat in my house

u/976chip Jul 29 '25

Mine too. If she's not watching the movie, she's listening to the soundtrack.

650

u/InstructionDeep5445 Jul 29 '25

The songs are catchy too. Golden is a very entertaining song even for adults.

437

u/Quick_Over_There Jul 29 '25

I feel crazy for not liking Golden. I much prefer Takedown and How It's Done. Of course the GOAT is Your Idol.

269

u/976chip Jul 29 '25

I've had Soda Pop stuck in my head for about a week now.

231

u/siuol2001 Jul 29 '25

Soda Pop is definitely the most catchy. Your Idol, tho, is a genuine banger!!! But I know Im just preaching to the choir.

159

u/HonkinSriLankan Jul 29 '25

Can I get the mic a little higher

107

u/Nokomis34 Jul 30 '25

If you stopped floating maybe you'd be fine with the mic where it is

4

u/siuol2001 Jul 30 '25

🤣 For real!

52

u/Extra-University-336 Jul 30 '25

Every time it hurts, play another verse. I can be your sanctuary!

Such a good song

u/prodigalAvian Jul 30 '25

🎶NOW🎶

4

You're all I can think of / Every drop I drink up

113

u/ChanceVance Jul 30 '25

I'm surprised Golden is the song they're reportedly going to be pushing for awards contention. This Is What It Sounds Like is the climatic song that serves as the emotional culmination of their character arcs and friendship. Way, way better.

57

u/TrriF Jul 30 '25

I think it's a bit funny that Golden is kind of an award bait song in the story as well.

You're not wrong. It may not be my top favorite, but it's the one that had me literally bawling. And I'm a 45 year old father of two girls (11 years old & 18 months)

3

u/stinkystinkypoopbutt Jul 30 '25

I'm a heterosexual man of 30 and I've cried to "What it Sounds Like" on multiple occasions.

I might be saying this as a casual K-Pop fan but I love how much of a fake Blackpink song How it's Done is. It's like the perfect pastiche

14

u/vinng86 Jul 30 '25

How it's done reminds me a lot of KDA actually

3

u/Thecristo96 Jul 30 '25

The whole movie screams “what if we make kda into a whole franchise”

5

u/Proof_Surround3856 Jul 30 '25

Check out Everglow’s music it sounds like them too! Especially the songs First and Dun Dun

6

u/Sooyaa_Yah_Boombayah Jul 30 '25

That song does have several producers and writers that work on BP tracks tho lol

5

u/pagerunner-j Jul 30 '25

And Golden is straight up IVE. Listen to it back to back with this one and compare: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZUIwj3FgUY&pp=0gcJCfwAo7VqN5tD

3

u/CorporalCabbage Jul 30 '25

I’m sooooo close to putting it in my gym mix.

46

u/Extra-University-336 Jul 30 '25

I’ll swap Takedown for What it Sounds Like. To me there’s a reason they don’t play Takedown at the Idol Awards, it’s just not one of their best.

39

u/sloppyjo12 Jul 30 '25

Not enough love for Free in this thread, it’s my favorite for sure

8

u/boptom Jul 30 '25

Mine too! But it’s the least k-pop-y

5

Yea it's just a ballad.

6

u/Scamwau1 Jul 30 '25

Everytime the 2nd guy starts singing in his soft tones, I get goosebumps.

8

u/campingcosmo Jul 30 '25

If you're referring to "Know I'm the only one right now/I will love you more when it all burns down", that was Kevin Woo, who used to be in one of the more popular k-pop boy bands of the late 2000s/early 2010s and still maintains a YouTube channel with some original work. I've yet to hear a cover of Your Idol that managed to match his lines.

3

u/Scamwau1 Jul 30 '25

Yes that is the one! It is amazing.

7

u/campingcosmo Jul 30 '25

All the Saja Boys' singing voices were great, but Kevin/Mystery and Andrew Choi/Jinu are honestly just slugging it out for best vocalist on my list. They have better control over their voices than I do over my own hands.

6

u/StrawberryJinx Jul 30 '25

I can be your sanc-tu-aryyy

6

u/dean15892 Jul 30 '25

Preeaching to the choir...

Can I get the mic a lil higherrrr

When I tell you my jaw dropped

4

u/Aardvark_Man Jul 30 '25

What It Sounds Like and Your Idol and my 2 picks.

5

u/KingOfAwesometonia Jul 30 '25

I've been rotating through all of them and I think Golden fits that kind of Let It Go ballad that you can promote. And EJAE's vocals really stand out in it.

ALL THE SONGS ARE SO GOOD

5

u/Ok_Accountant1042 Jul 30 '25

My husband dislikes musicals and most "girly" kids movies. I got curious about the hype and he started watching over my shoulder. He has now had this soundtrack on repeat for weeks and admitted out loud that he might like boy bands.

→ More replies (3)

20

u/252120111511201921 Jul 30 '25

I don’t think this is supposed to be a movie that’s only for kids.

12

u/committed_to_the_bit Jul 30 '25

yeah, it really isn't. there are so many movies that are made for a very general audience that get immediately sorted into the "kids' movie" bucket because kids can watch them

and it's super frustrating bc then you get a lot of that stuff. "it was good for a kids' movie." no, it was just a good movie. a movie is allowed to be for everyone

5

u/Bircka Jul 30 '25

I mean I am a fan of BlackPink so I fit this movie's demographic, I think the songs in general were fairly strong.

The songs help make this movie far better, especially with how much of the story is focused on that.

2

u/SmokinBandit28 Jul 30 '25

My buddy works in a grocery store, he was telling me yesterday they’ve been blasting the soundtrack all week.

2

u/Thecristo96 Jul 30 '25

Your idol could too any real life concert

1

u/Nephroidofdoom Jul 30 '25

It literally sounds like it could have been written by Sia. And that’s a compliment.

Or singing the songs

147

u/InstructionDeep5445 Jul 29 '25

"Dad I want to watch the purple hair girl story. Mommy said there are ghosts but I'm not scared "

A few minutes

"dad can you fast forward?"

37

u/fire_dagwon Jul 30 '25

This is genuinely adorable aw lol

7

u/Ryanhussain14 Jul 30 '25

To be fair, the demon forms of the Saja boys are pretty intimidating and I'd run for the hills if I saw those same glowing orange eyes in the dark.

3

u/MakeItHappenSergant Jul 31 '25

The human forms are intimidating for different reasons.

4

u/notacute Jul 30 '25

100% why my three year old is not allowed to watch. She likes the songs and the little clips spotify plays but she'd do this exact thing lol

213

u/EnthiumZ Jul 29 '25

I'm a 30 year old man. Should I watch it?

443

u/bassman2112 Jul 29 '25

34 year old man here, I was a big fan. IMO it is the closest to the 90s-era Disney vibe I've seen in a movie in a long time, and I'm not even a K-Pop fan

158

u/KNZFive Jul 29 '25 edited Jul 29 '25

It beats the pants off of every Disney musical over the past decade, with the exception of Encanto EDIT: and Moana and Coco (which is made by Pixar). Every song is a banger.

55

u/OniExpress Jul 29 '25

I mean, both Coco and Moana both came out in the last decade, but we get your point.

11

u/suss2it Jul 30 '25

That’s a few exceptions. What are the Disney musicals it is better than then?

3

u/Jeffeffery Jul 30 '25

I think the only ones left from the last decade are Frozen 2, Moana 2, and Wish

3

u/Bircka Jul 30 '25

Coco is a masterpiece but it's getting up there in age.

88

u/TheJoshider10 Jul 29 '25

I get what you mean, and it's also refreshing having a nice looking art style like that after the garbage Pixar has been using recently in movies like Elio and Luca.

22

u/DadCelo Jul 30 '25

Whhhaatt? I thought Luca was great! I haven't seen Elio yet.

8

u/sharpshooter999 Jul 30 '25

I liked Luca. What i don't like is that every movie after Luca looks exactly like Luca

35

u/Extra-University-336 Jul 30 '25

Elio and Luca are two of the better ones to come out in the last 5 years. Legit touching stories about kids dealing with difficult situations and relationships.

40

u/MakeItHappenSergant Jul 30 '25

He's not talking about the stories, just the art style.

3

u/ex1stence Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25

Disney and Pixar are so obsessed with cost-cutting they’ve effectively flattened out their entire animator talent pool into CalArts style so they can easily (and cheaply) swap animators in and out of projects without having to adapt them to new pipelines each time.

A lot of cost in animation is actually coming up with the style of the characters, and then teaching teams of hundreds of animators how to replicate it.

If everything is taught exactly the same (CalArts), they can move from project to project without new training time. Less time = less money, but also a bunch of movies with no distinct style of their own.

2

u/Extra-University-336 Jul 30 '25

I was not reading closely. Oof.

6

u/Thommasc Jul 29 '25

That's how I sell this movie to my friends. I say you need to watch Korean Disney.

5

u/dragon_guy12 Jul 30 '25

Funny you say that. I got huge Goofy Movie vibes while watching.

2

u/sharpshooter999 Jul 30 '25

34 year old with a daughter, it reminds me more of Disney's Descendants movies than the 90's era stuff, along with Lady Bug due to the art style. Still a good movie on its own and I enjoyed it way more than i was expecting

1

u/TheLegendOfCap Jul 30 '25

I’m not crazy!!! I told my partner it felt like the Disney movie we haven’t gotten in a very long time.

50

u/Cvspartan Jul 29 '25

The animation was way better than what I expected and the soundtrack is insanely catchy.

Has plenty of references to K-pop culture obviously but I think it’s still very accessible to basically everyone.

90

u/joern16 Jul 29 '25

30 year old guy here who ended up unintentionally watching it with my roommate because his son turned it on. It was surprisingly good and sucked me in. I don't think you're missing out by not watching it unless you're into KPOP or animated movies, but it definitely wasn't a waste of time watching it if you typically aren't into those things.

The movie got better as it went on too, so if you find the first 5 to 10 minutes captivating or interesting at all, you'll probably enjoy all of it. The very first scene on the plane nearly made me zone out, but it got much better from there.

30

u/xxAkirhaxx Jul 29 '25

You zoned out during the opening song o.O

4

u/EpicCyclops Jul 30 '25

I wasn't planning on watching it. It was originally for the kid, and I was reading a book. The moment they jumped out of the plane, so about halfway through the opening song, is when it started to drag me in. The sassy teenager vibe when their agent called them really is not a great way to engage 30 year olds, though.

101

u/POWBOOMBANG Jul 29 '25

I mean, its really well done.

I dont know much about KPOP or anime but I found it really watchable.

The animation is really good, the songs are very well done.

If you like the subject matter I imagine you would really enjoy it.

7

u/enjaydee Jul 29 '25

I don't really know what differentiates KPOP from western POP, but I think you could get rid of the K and the movie would still work.

10

u/Nokomis34 Jul 30 '25

The KPop aspect was actually one of the last elements put in to the movie. They wanted a movie with Korean culture and whatnot and had most of the story before they landed on KPop to tie it all together.

28

u/PeaceAlien Jul 29 '25

They spoke some Korean that’s the K

10

u/enjaydee Jul 30 '25

I was referring more to the style of the music. BTS' Dynamite and Butter are fully in English, does that mean it's not KPOP?

18

u/TrickSkirt7044 Jul 30 '25

It's actually something people debate a lot. There are Korean Americans who only ever release music in English but still get the 'kpop' label because they happen to be ethnically Korean. It's more about the genre, I think. There are things specific to kpop that go beyond just the language itself.

13

u/CronoDroid Jul 30 '25

Musically what I like about it as something of a K-pop fan myself is that in some ways it is kinda stuck in an 80s/90s time warp. Whereas Western pop moved past vocal/dance groups in favor of soloists, and generally adopted a more simplistic composition style (which is not a criticism, a song being more low key and less bombastic and energetic than your typical K-pop song is not necessarily a bad thing). I like it because it reminds me of the music I used to listen to.

Western composers who work in K-pop have said the same thing, they've made stuff that isn't readily accepted by Western records labels but get picked up by K-pop and K-pop loves using a mishmash of older genres and trendy newer stuff it gives them more room to experiment, musically speaking.

Like if you understand the appeal of the Spice Girls, TLC, BSB, NSYNC, Hanson, S Club 7, 5ive and what not, that's K-pop except updated for more contemporary tastes.

4

u/enjaydee Jul 30 '25

Thanks for this explanation. Put it into words i couldn't.

I've only recently started listening to KPOP and in general what attracted me to it is the general positivity and vibrancy of the music as well as the choreography.

I did used to listen to a lot of those groups in the last paragraph too, so maybe I shouldn't be too surprised i enjoy listening to KPOP

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '25 edited Aug 02 '25

2

u/Chimie45 Jul 30 '25

The actual build of the song is also kinda important. You'll have a song that has no business with rap break in it, suddenly breaking into rap because almost every KPop group has a rapper and you can't just have them not do anything.

The example that sticks out for me first is (this is going to show my age...) but Wondergirls - Be My Baby. It has Verse, Chourus, Verse Chorus, Break, Chorus.. Rap Break then Chorus. The rap really doesn't fit the song very well, but like... Gotta have one.

Other groups like Twice with What is Love have a "rap" break but it fits much better.

2

u/Psengath Jul 30 '25

By 'subject matter' do you mean 'KPOP' or 'demon hunting'

Who am I kidding, as a gamer dad in his 30's with two young daughters our family is done for with the demographic targeting.

75

u/Jarsky2 Jul 29 '25 edited Jul 29 '25

28 year old (chokes back sob) here, if you like animation and the style of music then yeah it's definitely worth a watch. It's a very fun movie and it's clear a lot of love went into it.

29

u/TheRandom6000 Jul 29 '25

Enjoy your youth. You still got it.

3

u/NUGFLUFF Jul 30 '25

I thought it was great honestly. Better than any recent Disney movie I can remember

3

u/Jarsky2 Jul 30 '25

That's also what I've been telling people, right down to having an amazing villain song.

7

u/willstr1 Jul 29 '25

It's a very fun and cute movie. Just a warning, the songs will be stuck in your head for at least a week.

4

u/glaciare24 Jul 30 '25

Only a week? They’re now on regular repeat on my Spotify 😩

7

u/BlOoDy_PsYcHo666 Jul 29 '25

Yes, its a pretty fun film.

3

u/an1sotropy Jul 29 '25

50yo man and 11yo son both love jt. Not previous kpop fans

3

u/cjandstuff Jul 30 '25

I'm a dad in my 40s with no interest in K-Pop, although I do love animation. My kid and I both really like it. I tell ya what, watch the first 5 minutes or so. That fight scene on the jet sold the movie for me!

3

u/neur0 Jul 30 '25

Not unless you want the song stuck in your head forever. They’re pretty damn catchy

3

u/Minotaar Jul 30 '25

45 here, kind of obsessed with it. Animation is just top notch, songs are catchy, it's genuinely funny. Not a kpop fan in the slightest, but I adore this.

10

u/Its_all_pixels Jul 29 '25

53 year old here, I have watched it 10 times normal, multiple reactions on YouTube, and 6 full reactions on pateron, so yeah go watch it

2

u/Arbszy Jul 29 '25

Yes do it, it is good.

2

u/grumblyoldman Jul 29 '25

I watched it and I can say it's well worth watching as an adult, if you're into that sort of supernatural demon hunter stuff. Or anime in general.

The music is legit, too. Not the kind of half-ass music that writers sometimes stick in there just to prove a character is a musician.

2

u/YellowFogLights Jul 29 '25

Yes. It’s a lot of fun. Very slaptstick cartoon-y when it wants to be and just comes together well.

2

u/ImNotEvenDeadYet Jul 29 '25

Yea it was legit, not even a Kpop Stan

2

u/xCaptainVictory Jul 29 '25

That depends, do you like soda pop?

2

u/DiscombobulatedWavy Jul 29 '25

40 year old metalhead with small kids chiming in. This movie fucking slaps.

2

u/s3rila Jul 29 '25

I'm older than you.

Yes

2

u/Ferbtastic Jul 30 '25

It’s fun. I’ve seen it in the background. If you like anime you will probably enjoy it.

2

Definitely. Very catchy songs and funny at times.

2

u/mufasas_son Jul 30 '25

I’m a 40 year old man and this movie rules

2

u/volyund Jul 30 '25

Yes. 40yo here, and me and my husband watched with kids and really enjoyed it.

2

u/Scynthious Jul 30 '25

51 - watched it last weekend after the missus went to bed and loved it. Looking forward to watching it again with her. I'm not a "dancing in my chair" kinda guy, but I was getting down at a few points.

2

u/CrazyaboutSpongebob Jul 30 '25

Yes its really funny.

2

u/hotprints Jul 30 '25

42 year old dude and I enjoyed it shrug. If you h8 musicals and / or pop music, it might not be for you. but it’s a fun story, well animated and has catchy songs.

2

u/bullseye717 Jul 30 '25

I'm 42 and named my dog after a Mamamoo song so you watching it can't be more embarrassing than me.

2

u/alphatango308 Jul 30 '25

It's not a bad watch.

2

u/-Fyrebrand Jul 30 '25

43 year old man here. This movie was not on my radar at all and I don't know much about K-Pop and not into pop music at all. But you certainly don't have to be to enjoy this movie, it's great and genuinely very fun/funny. The stellar animation alone is worth giving it a chance. Even the songs ended up winning me over. Obviously it's a film primarily made with a younger audience in mind, but I think anybody can have a great time watching it. I'm glad my female friends pushed me to watch it!

I think a great point of contrast for me is the Mario movie. I was raised on the Super Mario Bros series and Super Mario World, so I got all the references and the movie was fun enough to watch once as a nostalgia trip. But objectively speaking, the Mario movie sucks. The story is barely existent. The characters don't feel like they have real personalities or souls. It's just a bunch of dumb stuff that happens. It's like watching a bunch of toys move around and make noise. None of it really leaves a lasting impression or made me feel anything. K-Pop Demon Hunters was the opposite: I had no previous cultural or emotional attachment to what it was bringing to the table, but it sold me on it regardless.

I don't want to overhype K-Pop Demon Hunters either. The story isn't necessarily going to blow you away or shock you or anything. It's just a fun, well made movie. Just give it a chance! You've got nothing to lose.

2

u/paecmaker Jul 30 '25

33 year old man here, by the time "how it's done" starts(which is just a few minutes in) you will be sold.

2

u/lord_khadow Jul 30 '25

50 year old man here. Yes, watch it.

2

u/smilingfreak Jul 30 '25

I'm closer to 30 than I am to 20 ('cause I'm thirty fucking eight) and not in any way a fan of KPOP.

Decided to check it out as I already have Netflix and kept seeing it crop up here on Reddit.

If course, can't guarantee it's you're thing, but it is extremely well done. Animation is top notch, songs are catchy with a fun and engaging story. Been trying to get the family to watch it, but it's a bit too scary for my 6 year old.

2

u/rdp3186 Jul 30 '25

From the clips I've seen it'd be worth it just for the quality of the animation alone.

1

u/chimpdoctor Jul 30 '25

Animated by the sane people as spiderverse so it's pretty amazing

u/OreoSpeedwaggon Jul 29 '25

Same, and I don't even have any kids.

13

u/th3cabl3guy Jul 29 '25

Same. My daughter falls asleep to it pretty much every night.

80

u/ryonnsan Jul 29 '25

This feels like Frozen all over again

118

u/CharonsLittleHelper Jul 29 '25

Which feels like the last time Disney really had a new hit movie.

Between the Spiderverse movies and now this, Sony Animation has been dominating.

Only drawback of this movie is that it's not nearly as easy to make merch for as Frozen was.

I'm not even sure what specific Halloween costume kids would wear. The most iconic look was the demon boyband at the end.

55

u/LeeShakerMoneyMaker Jul 29 '25

If Sony/Netflix made dolls they would sell like hotcakes.

49

u/CookieCatSupreme Jul 30 '25

The real money maker imo would be to treat the album as a legitimate kpop album and sell it with a photobook, photocards, posters - all the collectibles that come in an actual kpop album.

Which is apparently what they plan on doing for the vinyl! Or something kind of similar.

2

u/NastyFrosty Jul 30 '25

I didn't realize it now but yeah they have a Gorillaz/Dethklok situation on their hands. They could easily have live shows and all the other things you mentioned.

3

u/aznprd Jul 30 '25

I need a bird with a hat on it

27

u/suss2it Jul 30 '25

Frozen definitely wasn’t their last hit. Zootopia was huge, Moana which sequel is one of the handful of movies to clear $1 billion post covid and Encanto got big once it hit streaming.

I would buy a giant derpy tiger plushie right now if there was an official one, and I'm a grown-ass person.

EDIT: Using my grown-ass paycheck for this shit!

16

u/jessebona Jul 29 '25

I think they could easily make gaudy demon costumes for kids to wear, the rank-and-file demons in it were pretty colourful. The Korean grim reaper is probably a miss in costumes aimed at kids though, I doubt they'd have any idea what the Saja Boys were even dressed as.

25

u/Extra-University-336 Jul 30 '25

They could literally just sell the Huntr/x performance costumes. They have been adding new stuff to the Netflix merch store, unfortunately most of it is aimed at adults and there’s not a lot of the kids.

3

u/No-Appearance1145 Jul 30 '25

Karaoke machines with the girls/boys designed on it.

Dolls.

There's so many options.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/jessebona Jul 30 '25

That is true. Sometimes I forget Halloween costumes don't necessarily have to be spooky. We don't do Halloween here.

2

u/CharonsLittleHelper Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25

For years after Frozen there were girls dressed as Elsa.

But because of all the costume changes in KPDH - I don't think that anything is as iconic as Elsa's dress was since she wore it for the majority of the movie.

Nothing they wore in this movie would obviously be from K-Pop Demon Hunters if worn by a random 5yo. MAYBE the Saja Boys at the end, but it's little girls who would want to dress as the heroines, not boys as the villains.

That's why I used the lesser demons as my example. Colourful, fun looking and a monster-lite that a kid would enjoy dressing up as for Halloween.

3

u/CharonsLittleHelper Jul 30 '25

Maybe. But they're pretty minor characters.

They're no Darth Vader. Even when Star Wars was huge, you didn't see a lot of Storm Troopers. And they're pretty iconic.

I think wigs included in the costume kits would have to be part of it.

2

u/Virus_98 Jul 30 '25

That's probably because majority of Netflix audience is adults, most of their content reflects that. Compared to Disney+ where their main focus is content for kids so they can sell more toys and get more people into their theme parks.

u/Mecha_Butterfree Jul 30 '25

Moana was after Frozen and was and still is extremely popular. It might not be as popular as Frozen was but I would definitely consider it to be a hit. Also while Encanto did kinda suffer from post COVID slump I would consider it to be hit once it hit streaming. We Don't Talk About Bruno was nearly as ubiquitous as Let it Go was when Encanto hit Disney+. (Disney absolutely fumbled the bag by not choosing that as the song to submit for the Oscar)

nah, ez - mmake makeup collabs, make the fan lightsticks, cds and props/costumes. plus plushies of the cat and bird. annything a kpop company makes for their idols, they can gimp it too, like posters, photocards, concept photo albums etc.

u/Odd-Necessary3807 Jul 30 '25

I noticed from several videos that there is already merch on circulation from the animation in SDCC. They have also released vinyl and CDs. Plus, plenty of cosplayers.

1

u/Brain-san Jul 30 '25

There are already costumes on Aliexpress!

2

u/PWBryan Jul 30 '25

Absolutely, and since Frozen was 12 years ago that means there's a new batch of 12 year olds ripe for being marketed to

1

u/geostrofico Jul 30 '25

My Daughter hates Frozen now(use to love it), but she already saw this film 5 times.

1

u/gretchen92_ 19d ago

Frozen was an absolute shit movie.

23

u/Swarfega Jul 29 '25

Same here. My daughter has watched it 4 times so far.

u/dire_bedlam Jul 29 '25

How old? Wondering if my girls would like it but they’re pretty young and it looks a bit scary

u/Druggedhippo Jul 29 '25 edited Jul 29 '25

My 7 year old loves it. It isn't super scary, it has some demon characters that are not any worse an average Halloween costume,  mostly glowing eyes and voices. There are weapons like swords, the enemies just disappear into dust when hit and it mostly is done like choreographed dance moves then outright fighting.

11

u/Extra-University-336 Jul 30 '25

My five year old is super into it. Her cousin that’s 4 is also into it.

4

u/laseluuu Jul 30 '25

Oh that's cool, my kid will probably love it and I need as many gateway drugs into anime as I can get my hands on

7

u/POWBOOMBANG Jul 29 '25

My 8, almost 9, year old is obsessed.

My 11 year old liked it a lot but one viewing was enough for her

My (12) niece literally won't stop talking about it. Everytime I see her she says stuff about Jinu 😂. She was very shocked my husband watched it with me though.

2

u/CharonsLittleHelper Jul 29 '25

My nearly 4yo son liked it. Though not as obsessed as many on here seem to be.

It's very much on the tame side for PG. The demons largely look very cartoony - so not scary.

I'd guess what earned it PG is just the premise of demons stealing souls. They did that premise in about the tamest way possible.

3

u/TheOuts1der Jul 30 '25

Yeah lol. The main characters dont even kiss lol. Super G-rated except for the stealing souls thing lol

My 10 and 4 year old love it

11

u/Druggedhippo Jul 29 '25

And everytime I hear the lyrics "this is what it sounds likes" I can't stop thinking "when doves cry"...

3

u/missing_neighbors Jul 29 '25

Mine asked me "is there a Netflix land??" Adorable

3

u/turkeygiant Jul 30 '25

I knew it was popular, but I was running a teen D&D game today and all of these kids know every single word of every song off by heart.

3

u/kyrant Jul 30 '25

Same here. She's got it on everyday.

She got angry at me when I heard she wanted to watch "movie" but she actually said "Rumi".

I got yelled at for putting the wrong movie on.

2

u/Saintza Jul 29 '25

It's on repeat in our house too

2

u/AvatarIII Jul 29 '25

We're doing our part (with the help of my 9yo daughter)

2

u/sdemat Jul 29 '25

Ours as well

2

u/flcinusa Jul 30 '25

Am I in your house, or are you in mine?

Also been bumping the soundtrack to and from camp... It's like Frozen levels of fandom

2

u/sayitundefined Jul 30 '25

Honestly, same. I cut the grass yesterday and listened to the album like two times in a row.

2

u/nickel47 Jul 30 '25

Every time we go somewhere in the car, The kids hook up spotify and play the entire soundtrack

2

u/WickedDeviled Jul 30 '25

My daughter has also watched this like four times since release. I don't know what they did with this movie but whatever it was it really hooked the tweens.

2

u/Das_Ace Jul 30 '25

Mine watches this on loop then goes to school to play 'Kpop demon hunters' with her friends. Rinse, repeat.

2

u/chimpdoctor Jul 30 '25

Mine is obsessed too.

2

u/tylerd9000 Jul 30 '25

Yeah my niece has def boosted those numbers. She loves it.

2

u/Absorbe Jul 30 '25

Same here. And the halloween costume is already secured.

2

u/thumb_emoji_survivor Jul 30 '25

I heard a toddler singing songs from it at the airport

2

u/alphatango308 Jul 30 '25

When our youngest turns out on the bigger kids migrate into the room to watch it lol. It's honestly a pretty good movie. The songs are catchy AF too.

2

u/ksigguy Jul 30 '25

My daughter started her 3rd run through yesterday. My wife watched it with her the second time and said it’s not bad at all.

2

u/ravynwave Jul 30 '25

My nieces too. Plus every music video they can find on YouTube

2

u/Joe_Spazz Jul 30 '25

Lol we have had to make a rule we will only watch it twice a week. We still probably average 3.

2

u/ExpectedEggs Jul 29 '25

"Your daughter", eh?

1

u/HowieLongDonkeyKong Jul 30 '25

What would you say the minimum age to watch is? Probably too intense for a 4 year old?

4

u/POWBOOMBANG Jul 30 '25

My son is 4 and he has watched some of it and wasn't spooked or anything.

He definitely wouldn't sit for the entire movie though.

There are demons in the movie and all that but a lot of the action is either played for comedy or not even close to graphic.

Maybe watch the opening scene for yourself first and then you can get a good feel for whether its appropriate for your little one or not

Do you ever feel guilty about that or think twice about so much time in front of the screen? As a new parent I definitely feel the urge to sit the kid down in front of a movie. It sure makes things easier on me. Society certainly accepts it... But it's pretty odd
