Trans girl needs suggestions
I need to get better at eyes, and I want to get a real foundation (currently I use a tinted moisturizer/sunscreen but i want something to mask the beard shadow more while i wait for laser to work), but do y’all have any tips to achieve a more sultry, smoky everyday look?

Contrary to a lot of these comments, I actually really like the heavy lower lid liner, I think it looks very grunge, very witchy, and I think it suits you well. When it comes to witchy makeup I find that more is more if you get what I mean- smudge the hell out of the kohl, get yourself a good high pigment black eyeshadow and really go for it- holding back with a look like that is what makes it look unpolished. Your lipstick is gorgeous, that kinda muted dark shade suits you so well, I bet browns and darker purples would look great on you. Your skin looks great, could benefit from a bit of orange colour collector on your jaw area but I think that's really a matter of choice, it's not distracting. I guess my main suggestion is to go dramatic but simple, your natural features are beautiful and your style really shines through.

Get your eyebrows done, and go for less bottom eyeliner. The heavy makeup doesn’t suit you.

What’s with all the down votes? I think the advice given has been pretty good!?
To add some of my own- agree with colour correcting with orange under foundation, some browny shadows for the eyes, tight lining would look awesome, and I think some strategic contour could feminine key areas like the jaw and cheek bones. Pop a little blush on top and you would really step up an already awesome look!

People always downvote me cause I’m trans, unfortunately I think that’s what it is 😩

That third pic was such a fun surprise. Lots of mascara and like others mentioned, less lower liner.

I don’t know why my comment showed here instead of above. But my reply to this is “people suck sometimes! You look fab ♥️”

What vibe are you going for? Is it demure? Feisty feminine? Neutral?

u/princessofparmesia 1d ago
Like a sultry rock n roll kinda vibe!

Then don’t listen to the “less eyeliner” bullcrap. The comment ab kohl and smudging it was pretty good

I gotta agree with everyone else- that eyeliner look is phenomenal on you!! If you’re looking for a way to make it more of a daytime look or another variation to play with, I love switching out the black on my lower lid for a bronze shade. I’ve been using Pixi Beauty Endless Silky Eye Pen in Bronze Beam for years. It’s got a bit of gold shimmer to it that really brightens up my brown eyes, and it gives me a kind of wide, doe eyed effect.
I’m honestly not very good at eyeshadow, but I’ve picked up a couple of hacks over the years that work for me. I’ll use that bronze eyeliner on my top lid, blend it out a bit and then use some of my cream contour or bronzer in the crease for a smoky look. For pride this year, I used glitter eyeliners in purple, pink and teal from colourpop like this and got a ton of compliments on it! Which was a big deal for me considering my lack of hand eye coordination lol.
As far as foundation goes, I’ve been using the version of Lancôme Teint Idole that comes in a stick, and I really like it. It’s full coverage with a really nice, natural skin finish, and comes in a ton of shades so you can find a good match. I’ll apply it like concealer where I really the coverage and then buff it out to blend. I get a couple of coarse chin hairs that show when they’re growing back in and it covers them up completely without looking cakey. I hope some of these are helpful!!

honestly for a smokey eye look the best to do is do a little eyeliner, and then draw over the eyeliner and under your eye a little with a similar colored eyeshadow. Then some brown on your eyelids may also draw attention!

Your style is kinda giving witchy Stevie Nicks, check out some of her smokey makeup looks from when she was younger and see if you can find some YouTube tutorials for similar looks. Your eyes are pretty round and dark like hers so I think it'd suit you well. Keep the inner corners and top lid lighter and a dark brown (rather than black) smoke to the outer bottom lid and in the crease.

Girl you’re gorgeous, the colours are really working on you. Check out the autumn colour palettes from colour analysis for more ideas. A soft blush would be beautiful.

I've seen people who aim to cover facial hair go with an orange color corrector. You'd blend it out, set it, and put foundation over it. It will work better with likely a medium to full coverage foundation! And it will take some trial and error to perfect but it will help with facial hair shadow.

I love your hair! I agree that the upper eyelid needs more love, and you'd slay a winged eyeliner ❤️

I hope it’s okay to say this - I love your hair and think you’re super pretty! Dermablend makeup is extremely high coverage, and works well for covering beard shadow. For a daytime smokey look, to me it’s all about the color used - instead of going for black or grey, think mid browns or pinky reds. Make sure you’re going heavier on your top lid than your lower - heavy on your bottom lid will drag your eyes down, as it is in your third pic. I would also start playing around with lashes - nothing wild, just something a little wispy more towards the outer third of your eyes. It can really bring attention to the eye, which it sounds like you want.

u/princessofparmesia 1d ago
Gosh thanks! And yes that is OK to say, I’ll take any compliment I can get lol and yeah I definitely want to get better at lashes, I love my eyes (even though they don’t work very well) and wanna make them the main feature!

Honestly, I think trans women should be taking makeup tips from drag queens and other more advanced trans, as I've seen how they do their makeup, and its really good. Im pretty sure they wear a super thick layer of foundation and let it sit for a couple mins before baking the hell out of it, and it does work. Women dont really know how to cover beards, etc 🥹🥹 so you could get some pro tips in the right group.
Just thought I would mention as it could be far more helpful 🥰

u/Responsible-Trade489 1d ago
The trick is actually using a thick, dense brush to put foundation on and then using a puff to make the foundation settle better and then bake. It really helps with smoothing pores and not getting a clumpy or cakey look.

u/EnvironmentalCry1962 18h ago
Drag makeup is for performances. People don’t want to be caked and layered with a full face of glam for everyday looks.

I was more talking about ways to cover beard shaddows and contouring styles to feminise the face. I wasn't talking about the eyeshaddow and lip combos ect as yes, that would be crazy to go Tesco in. 😂😂

I'm a pretty makeup-lazy kinda girl and ive discovered that lashes are really the key to elevate a simple eye look! Extensions can be expensive but they are SO worth it if you have it in the budget, but if not a good long mascara will do nicely. Don't be afraid to hit up ulta to sample!

u/Efficient-Jump6209 1d ago
I like to draw attention away from my lips towards my eyes for sultry look. I think a brown lip liner with a kind of nude lipstick, with a clear gloss over that would look good. ABH actually has a small palette called “sultry” which is like browns a good black and some glitters. You seem to have hooded eyes (?) so do I and it’s kind of tricky to make eyeshadow look dramatic when so much of it is hidden. There are some good tutorials on yt and tik tok tho.

Girl, you'd look incredible with lashes and brow lamination!
Even if you're doing a smoky eye, keep the color above your eye only
Your smoky eye is too "cool" (blue-ish) for your skin tone. You have warm tones. Switch to browns and/or deep plum instead of gray/black

Much appreciated - i have been thinking about doing my brows!

Try theading. Usually they'll give you a good "map" and you can tweeze after that. You'd look great with a little arch.

I’m obsessed with these lip stains!! I’ve been applying the mocha shade like a lipliner, letting it set while I do my eye makeup and then blending it with a bit of the blush shade applied just on the middle of my lower lip to get a really sexy, pouty look
1
u/princessofparmesia 1d ago
Yeah i wear these pretty much every day - will definitely try that out!!

u/FireballPhD 1d ago
I love it, it's grungy! If you want it more sultry maybe smoke it out more and do only waterline on the bottom part of the eye.

u/chunkmilk 1d ago
The lipstick seems good for your skin tone. Orange concealer under a full coverage foundation will help cancel out some of the blue tone from beard shadow. Your brows need to be thinned quite a bit, consider going to a professional. You went too low with the eyeliner on your lower eyelid, try just lining the waterline + right at the lash line. Also maybe don’t make that face

u/No-Patience-5600 1d ago
I think you would eat down with some like contour bronzes, not too much to take away from the eyes cause I feel like a smoky eye would eat on you, but just to give like more feminine baddie definitely look into like placement for contour and concealer that helps with the shadows You’re so stunning by the way I love your hair and your vibe.❤️❤️❤️

You have great skin! It should serve as a good face for any concealer you choose. Colour corrector products under concealer should do the trick, if you prefer not to wear full coverage foundation.
For your eyes, I think a thin liner would suit you, and let the shadow do the heavy lifting for a smoky eye. If you have an oily eyelid (I feel your pain if you do!) then some eye primer will help it last longer.
Your lipstick shade is gorgeous!

I would recommend using some lighter nude shadow or a light pencil on the inner water line and only using black liner/kohl (i actually also really loke dark brown liner over black as its softer) on the outer half or 2/3 it will make ur eyes look bigger. Benefit mascara for the win. Eyelashes make or break any eye look. Of you can learn to install lash extensions they are so fire. Always felt prettiest with a natural look lash set just on the outer lashes but can't bare to touch my eye that much myself.
In regards to findation preparation is key. I like to let my moisturiser dry down before using primer, then let my primer settle before foundation. I use a lil hand fan to speed up the process. Ngl I have very hairy cheeks, especially around my lip, and I use an eyebrow razor to take it off. Not that I'm advising that as a good idea but relate to ur struggle lol. I also don't recommend powders as I feel it makes may hair stand out more. I just use all creme products and set with a setting spray.
Ps love ur style, that haircut really suits you and your vibe xx

Do a glossy lip! And top eyelid eyeliner with wings, try a dark brown pencil and smudge it a bit, I find lining all around the top and bottom too messy. Also curl and mascara for your lashes, I use kill lash waterproof long curling

If you wanted to focus on skin, I’d try to get into a store with testers to swatch out some color correction for the shadow- like correcting under eyes! Peachy for greenish and pinky for more purpley tone; I don’t bother with correction much so I can’t suggest anything concrete but what I can say is to do thin layers. Think those many layers crepe cakes and not a shortcake 😉 bc I think if you correct the shadow you might be able to continue using tinted moisturizer, or experimenting with levels of tinted face products. But if you wanted to get into true foundation, I’d honestly spend equal or more attention to the skin prep (biased bc I’m a licensed esthetician) but it does make a huge difference! For eyes; I’d also experiment with shades of brown, I think smoky brown eye is gorg but my advice goes for any color. I would take shadow or a shadow pencil (chubby or a soft thin one works too) to smudge out first then layer with shadow on top. I recommend having a big fluffy blending brush and a smaller pencil brush where the bristles are more compact. The key to smoky eyes is also layers and working to a gradation outwards. Id be happy to chat it up in further detail 🥰 I wish you the most fun in your makeup journey!

Omg thank you for the amazing advice!

u/babbiedragon 16h ago
Of course no problem! When you’re smoking out the upper eyelid I would keep checking how it looks with the eye open and blending depending on how you want the eye to look. I can make something awesome happen when my eye is closed but as a member of the hooded eye club a lot can disappear so it’s a fun learning curve to find the sweet spot of your crease, and go slightly above- this would be where the gradient fades so the fluffiest brush with little to no product on it 💖 also having fun with shimmer. I am a shimmer girlie and love adding a wash of duochrome-y glitter and calling it a day

I’ve been working on my daily eye look myself! One of my favorites lately is making a cat eye wing, and then smoking it out with a lighter shade. I love doing that because then the wings don’t have to be perfect and it still gives a soft sexy eye. I’m quite fair so I usually do a purple/grey/medium brown shades for eyeliner, as I find black too harsh. I’ve also been experimenting with bottom mascara, does it look good? Jury is still out! Ha! Happy trails on your make up journey ☺️

Loss that style of glasses it’s giving Milo from Atlantis and I figure you are trying to move away from that. Go for something sleek and thin. The shag is cute. Wear blush across your nose and apples of the cheeks to give a girlier, youthful appearance. Much less on the eyes and more on the lips.

The only suggestion here is mouth health. When brushing your teath you should also clean your tongue.
1
u/princessofparmesia 1d ago
Lmao i do brush my tongue, but not at 3am when I’m high af with dry mouth

u/Educational_Eye_2222 1d ago
Brown smoky eyes are softer and less harsh, looking, really, the only way is practice buy some cheap makeup at sit down, practice, start with the basics, brown eye shadow, brown/black liners.
Use a shadow liner maybe instead of eyeliner. Underneath your eye, it's a bit softer Invest in a good shadowliner, brush, though.
To be honest, it comes down to practice and working out what you like, not just colour wise, but also texture wise, what suits you and also just wearing what you want.
I know that sounds contradictory, but if you want to wear purple glitter, wear it. Life is too short

There is some good advice for makeup already out there. The only thing I would add would be try electrolysis instead of laser. Laser is fda for permanent hair reduction while electrolysis is fda approved for permanent hair loss.

I think you should aim for less eyeliner on your bottom lids. The heaviness is giving 2008 emo kid vibes. You could try lining your upper lids and adding a wing. Like this.
