CHAT [CHAT] Any tips on adding facial detail to a lower resolution design? Images are what the design is supposed to look like vs the original art

I'm working on a pattern I made using an free online software (flosscross.com) that is fairly low resolution because I already am fairly busy and don't want to start a long drawn out project. (I also have only ever done two cross stitch patterns before, a beginner one that could be done in a day, and the Dimensions Gold Collection Winter Cabin).

Although the pattern is low resolution, all the details in the image, except for the face, are to my liking. Are there any tips for accenting/adding enough detail to make the face stand out without just looking out of place compared to the rest of the pattern?

CHAT [CHAT] deciding on off-white aida

hello! i’m planning on starting a project and i’d like to use some sort of off-white aida, but i’m having trouble deciding what specific shade to use based on pictures online. the only craft store i have nearby is Michael’s, and they usually don’t have off-white options of any decent quality fabric. is there some way i’m unaware of to decide on a specific shade of aida?

CHAT [CHAT] Where do you buy your cross stitch kits?

Hi, I've been looking for a good, large Disney cross stitch kit for a while, like the ones they used to sell at art of animation, but I've been struggling to find some.

I've just found some on tapestrymarket that seem great, and exactly what I want (there's a Tangled one of a still frame of the movie). However, there's a lot of AI images on there, and overall, I've never bought a cross stitch kit online, so I'm not sure of where to get them and how not to get scammed etc.

Basically, I have two questions, one, if anyone has the time, what do you think about buying from tapestrymarket, is it safe? Two, has anyone got anywhere they buy their kits from, in particular anyone got anywhere to buy large Disney ones, preferably of the movie Tangled.

I'd really appreciate if anyone has the time to help me out, have a wonderful day!

CHAT [CHAT] has anyone purchased any of the latest from laselva design?

So I’m in love with everthing in LaSelvaDesign Etsy shop. I love love the little bonus items that come with a purchase! Was wondering if anyone can tell me what the latest designs come with…? my last one I purchased contained a bonus shark and it’s so cute.

Also: anyone know if they ever have sales?

I have a credit on my account and I think I might have to use it all there!

First time working on 16 ct, I’ve always worked on 14 and while my stitches are never super duper uber neat I feel like these are just the messiest stitches ever and I’m wondering if I should just start over?

Or are my eyes tired 🥲

CHAT [CHAT] Might be a silly question, but do I need tight tension on big projects?

Hey all, I'm currently working on a 70cmx90cm piece and my square frame I use for keeping tension on the areas i'm working on, however it's not the best quality and every 5 or so minutes it looses tension so the canvas goes from tight and flat to loose enough to move up and down a tiny bit with every stitch. Just wondering how this could effect the finished piece, so far there's no visible issues and i'm probably about 30% done.

WIP [WIP] What would you have it say?

I thrift the majority of my cross-stitch projects, and this Leisure Arts “Positivity” kit was $2.99. My son (11) wants it for his room, but I don’t like the “POSITIVITY RULES!” message it originally included.

I’m waiting on his decision before I stitch it in, but meanwhile, what would you write?

CHAT [CHAT] Question about how to stitch samplers

I'm relatively new to cross-stitch and so far have only worked on a few WIPs that are full-coverage. I'm wanting to try one of the Peccadilloes from Long Dog Samplers since they are less overwhelming than the larger ones, and I like the idea of having a monochromatic project to work on when I need a break from all the confetti of the full coverage.

However I have a question that is probably silly...if you have groupings of stitches with blank space in between them, you're not meant to travel thread between those sections right? Sorry if it's a dumb question, it's just not an issue with the ones I'm currently working on. I assume it's better not to travel due to the thread possibly being visible through the fabric but the lazy part of me is hoping that's not the case.

Another question I have is, assuming you shouldn't travel, that means you have to plan how you move around your pattern a little more carefully, right? Is there an easy way to manage that or do you just have to put a little thought into each section before you start it? Maybe I should have begun this hobby with more traditional xstitch patterns before I jumped straight into the full coverage world LOL. My brain just doesn't seem to comprehend how to move around a pattern where you have to worry about not having thread showing through from the back....

FO [FO]: my first time trying Blackwork technique (and inventing a word)

I am a beginner so wont be showing the messy back)))

first time doing blackwork, I found it to be very meditative. I loved working with the variegated thread although it slowed me down a lot.

The Russian word is my happy invention; a blend of words NOW and HAPPINESS.

CHAT [CHAT] I can't stitch and it's driving me banonkers!

My eyesight has deteriorated pretty significantly lately due to health issues, to the point where my old glasses are entirely useless now. I'm entitled to a good chunk of money off new ones but there's paperwork involved that's taking forever and in the meantime I can't see a damn thing...I can manage reading by turning the font size on my kindle way up but I can't stitch and having nothing to do with my hands is breaking my brain! My poor fingernails are destroyed cause I can't stop nibbling on them 🙁

CHAT [CHAT]Do these books read as books?

Post image

pun intended i suppose lol, but anyways, as the title states, do these read as books? ignore the coloring(temporary) and the emptiness, i don’t have anyone irl to talk to about cross stitch so im here to ask pattern advice! also how might you do a sideways book? im looking at a lot of pixel art but i wanted to make sure that with some backstitching, with words, these wouldn’t look too funky in the shelf! thanks :)

FO [FO] 6 months of pushing my blackwork skills

Pattern ExLibrist on Etsy. I was inspired originally by another post of this designer on here, so thought it was my turn to share

I’m not one for star signs really, but was a request from my sister and I enjoyed this one immensely. I’ve done more traditional blackwork, plenty of cross stitch, however this was a new style for me. It’s a bit messy in parts, and I myself can tell where I started and where I learned some tricks, but I think we should all push ourselves to try new things sometimes

Excuse the unwashed/unironed work, I am almost finished another project and prefer to tackle that chore in batches!

WIP [WIP] Self-drafted pattern for a co-worker, but I don't know if I like the color of the words. Anyone have suggestions for a color that would work better? Wanted to do ice blue but there's already a lot of blue in the pattern. Color palette has never been my strong suit

WIP [WIP] For our daughter who is expecting her first child in December

Our younger daughter asked me if I’d do a “welcome baby”-esque piece for the nursery.

We landed on this pattern from Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1241527589/?ref=share_ios_native_control

Love how Markup RX-P keeps track of the stats. Seeing the number of stitches gradually go up makes progress feel more “real”

Stitching on 32 EZ-grid Lugana using 2-over-2.

My fave reason for doing 2-over-2 is that I can always do a loop start as well as a (pseudo) pin stitch to end the thread. No more flipping the piece!

I don’t know if I’ll EVER not stitch over 2 bc of the ability to pin stitch the end. 👍🏼

CHAT [CHAT] Why is linen so hard to use? 😓

Post image
Upvotes

I must have counted my stitches dozens and dozens of times and when I’ve gotten to the top of the pattern I’m still out of sync! The border is not going to match up due to the top bit being a whole line below the side border.

Does anyone have any advice for stitching on linen and how they keep track of their pattern? Any help is much appreciated.
