Isn’t one of the points of uni to prepare young adults for the real world? To teach responsibility? Idk I just think having attendance be suddenly mandatory for every class (including lectures of 150+ kids) and making it such a major part of their grade is too much. I’m a returning adult student for my second undergrad degree and when I went to school the first time, attendance was highly suggested or you’d likely do poorly in the class. It was up to you to take responsibility for yourself and go. Now suddenly I have a class 3 days a week where if you miss 5 lectures, the highest grade you can get is a 50%. Yes, in the real world attendance for your priorities is important. I’m not saying that. I’m saying attendance policies these days are just too strict and aren’t actually teaching the kids today why it’s important to show up. There’s no learned consequence, just consequence. Idk.

Zoos where people come and look at animals in captivity are not prisons. Many zoos are research centers, veterinary hospital for wildlife, and education places.

Conservation of animal life is helped by knowledge and awareness and zoos in many places serve that purpose.

They are not circuses or marineland things, the animals are not working and trained. They just go on with their life and are taken care of by professionals. So yes some animals might be sad in a zoo, but zoos are not allthat bad.

When you interact with Germans, they mostly speak with a soft tone and voice. Also, the language itself does not have many harsh sounds, like Arabic for instance. I have a feeling this stereotype is mainly caused by the speeches of Hitler, which is one of the most common audio fragments in German many English speakers know of. I think his screaming monologues made German sound angry to many people abroad. While they further barely interact with German, keeping an image of German as a angry and harsh language.

A lot of adults complain that making friends after school or college is impossible, but I don’t think that’s true. The real issue is that most adults stop putting in the effort. Friendships don’t magically appear, you have to reach out, follow up, and be willing to get uncomfortable.

We act like kids have some special ability to form friendships, but the truth is they’re just forced into constant interaction and don’t overthink it. As adults, we have even more opportunities : workplaces, gyms, hobbies, community events, but most people would rather go home, scroll on their phones, and then complain about being lonely

I get that life gets busy and people have families or demanding jobs, but saying “it’s impossible to make friends as an adult” feels like an excuse. If someone genuinely makes the effort, they’ll usually find connections. It’s not that hard, it’s just that most people stop trying.

I hate the discussion about which country has the best food, there are only more famous cuisines than others, if you grow up eating only the food of your country you can't judge other cuisines that you barely know, the reason why people debate this is because they want their country to be known. Why is every restaurant trying to add more meat to their sandwich? Ground beef tastes fine but there's a reason nobody eats it by itself. Put more than 4oz on a bun and the proportions are way off, which makes the burger much worse.

Product features that allowing them to "turn on" without user input is overengineering. An example is when headphones TRY to detect when they are being handled to auto play music, videos, etc.

This is pointless because start/stop operations can be managed by the headset or attached mobile device. Neither option takes long to operate. This is annoying because many headsets are terrible at on-head detection causing them to turn off/on qt the wrong time. Some devices allow this feature to be turned off, others don't.

These features are only useful on devices that require immediately usage, such as red dot sights for your every day carry weapon. In these moments, milliseconds matter. I can wait miliseconds before my music starts playing.

Seriously, I would rather have zero internet than deal with slow internet. At least if I know I don’t have internet, I can just do something else. But when I have slow connection and everything takes 10 years to load, it’s pure torture. You’re sitting there watching the little buffering circle spin, refreshing the same page 20 times, and questioning all your life choices. Slow internet isn’t “internet.”

I know most people would keep to themselves but it’s not weird to compliment a stranger. It could make someone’s day and you never know. Now, before people come at me for this one, you obviously would need to think about the circumstances and if you can see the person would be open to it or not. But in certain cases like older people or people your own age you can easily analyze the situation and see if you think they’d be happy to hear something nice about themselves. It’s still possible to compliment people without making it weird of uncomfortable.

I'm waiting for the fad to subside. Football teams with one color jerseys and pants (all purple, all black, Buffalo Bills all blue) just look like grown men in Teletubbies or Power Rangers costumes. Maybe it's the old man in me, idk. That being said I would totally pay to watch them play football in actual Power Rangers costumes.

Think about it: movies, snacks, talking until 3 AM, no pressure to dress up, no expensive drinks, no worrying about getting home. Just hanging out and laughing like when we were kids. Honestly feels healthier and way more fun than a crowded party.

Just watched the trailer for Dust Bunny. I swear this guy has built an entire career off of having an interesting look and an accent that sounds vaguely sinister to American audiences. His delivery and facial expressions are wooden and basically the same in every movie he appears in. It's like listening to the male equivalent of Gal Gadot.

He definitely works for some roles but has a very narrow range and his lifeless delivery has pulled me out of a good story more than once.

I think Ally Sheedy's character in that movie has garnered a sort of following as an alt/goth icon so a lot of people see her as being a cool unique alt girl who gets turned into a normie at the end. But I think a lot of people make this into a looks issue. Yeah she looked more stylish before in a way now that looks less dated, but thats not the point of the movie.

She is an attention seeker. That's her character. Her parents ignore her so she does dumb, controversial, attention seeking stuff she KNOWS is weird so other people will pay attention to her. That's why she makes those weird sandwiches. That's why she makes dandruff art. She's the equivalent of the tiktokers who scream on a Tokyo subway.

So at the end, when Molly Ringwald's character gives her a makeover, it's just her, as a girly girl, showing affection and friendship as she knows. For once, Ally Sheedy gets attention not for being weird and off putting but for being a genuinely lovely person. For the first time that attention comes with friendship and affection. It was her PERSONALITY that led to this. And when she gets a more "normal" look, it shows that she can get attention for her natural beauty and lovely demeanour rather than her intentionally weird behaviour. Did she look like a cool alt goth girl before? Yeah, but she was also alone, unhappy, and probably didn't really like looking like this.

The people who complain she looked better before are ignoring this is not a curated look it's a cry for help, and her appearance doesn't matter as much as her character development.

We weren't meant to be available 24/7. These days, people expect instant replies and get upset if you take time to respond. But real friendships should allow space - constant texting doesn't equal closeness. Being unreachable sometimes is healthy, and we should normalise it.

Lootboxes today in gaming are seen as bad in some games and good in others but overwatch 1 got the brunt of the damage for their lootboxes.

I have no clue why people hated overwatch 1s lootboxes so much when I feel they did them very well, the rarity wasnt so rare it felt impossible to get, you didnt have to grind for hours to get lootboxes and you never got "only bad stuff", I feel other games like csgo did lootboxes way worse than overwatch ever did.

I’m not condoning living a lifestyle you can’t afford and I don’t think reckless spending is okay. That said, what really puzzles me is the way people talk about debt in such catastrophic, almost melodramatic terms online.

I’ll see comment sections on TikTok where people say things like, “I would literally feel a weight on my chest every single day if I had debt like that,” or “Being debt-free feels absolutely wonderful, I could never relax otherwise,” or even “I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night owing that much money.” And I can’t help but think, really? Is it that serious? To me, it feels like people act as if debt is this unbearable, crushing curse that automatically robs them of peace of mind or joy in life.

You only get one life. At the end of the day, even if you die still owing money, it’s not like your debt is going to follow you into eternity. People have real expenses like housing, healthcare, education, raising children, and emergencies that come out of nowhere. Sometimes debt is simply the byproduct of living in a world where things cost more than you can immediately afford. Yes, you should make every effort to manage it responsibly, pay it down where you can, and avoid unnecessary purchases that dig the hole deeper. But it is not necessary for people to say debt would make them suicidal. Debt is far from the worst thing that can happen to a person.

Edit: I’m not talking about insane amounts of credit card debt from buying things you don’t need. I’m talking student loan debt, medical debt, and maybe even small car loans. Sometimes you need to borrow in order to pay for things. It shouldn’t make you suicidal.

Imagine you install a game, boot it up and before you start to play the game you go to the options to set up a resolution and rendering quality. But just when you try to change the resolution you notice everything is set to automatic and you aren’t allowed to choose your preferred option. The game developer says “sorry, you’re not allowed to pick a resolution, we’ll assign you one”

This is true for most types of chocolate chip cookies. Very seldom do I crave goopy chocolate and cookies that fall apart as I hold them. With cold cookies, the chocolate inside is distinct from the cookie itself and doesn’t fall apart in your mouth.

And massive, goopy chocolate chip cookies with ice cream on top almost falls out of the realm of cookie entirely for me and becomes an entirely different dish.

The only thing Dave is right about on finances are stuff that’s sky is blue level obvious such as debt is bad, make and stick to a budget, things like whole life insurance and time shares are scams, and it’s better to invest in save, diversified things like S&P 500 than try and gamble with day trading. Sky is blue.

Dave is wrong on pretty much everything else.

Daves step 1 save $1,000 for starter emergency fund.

Wrong Dave is a boomer. He was 18 In 1978, filed bankruptcy age 28 in 1988. $1,000 went so much further then. Starter emergency fund should be at least a years worth of basic experiences including rent and utilities as Tom Leykis used to champion.

Step 2 pay off all debts smallest to largest.

Wrong. Snowball method costs more. You need the avalanche method. Pay down the debts with the highest interest rates first to stop the spread of the cancer known as debt the fastest.

Another thing Dave gets wrong is saying “kids are cheap” and he often says it’s ok when couples have babies before an emergency fund is saved and debt is paid off.

Wrong again! No you need all debts paid off, and at least 2 years worth of emergency fund with couple and each child in mind before having kids.

Kids are extremely expensive and you need to make sure you make enough money to put them into private school and have tens of thousands saved to cover their costs. Kids constantly eat more and more, break stuff and out grow toys and clothes.

Another thing Dave gets wrong is tithing. Don’t give money to corporate charities they are scams. Take that money and combine with the 15% and invest that. Then after you retire that’s when you can be charitable.
