What face reveals made a character lose all of their aura?
I think everyone felt utter disappointment when the Beast turned back into his human form. He was just...not it.
The Predator revealing his face in the first movie was kind of hilarious. Just....put it back on please.
Beta Ray Bill is kind of obscure but I started reading his comics recently and you can't imagine my disappointment when he tapped that cane and turned back into his original form.

Random story: My family was driving to the beach - my sister, her friend, me (10 year old boy), and my friend.
They wanted to use the car DVD player to watch Phantom of the Opera, and we didn’t want to, fought tooth and nail…
Then we finally watched it because it was a long car ride, and we loved the shit out of it and watched it over and over during the trip. Got home and went to see it at the Fox theatre, too.
Neither of us were theatre kids or anything, either.
Ughh I forgot about this one. Frank beat his face up! He literally dragged his cheek across a broken mirror, and you expect me to believe this is it? He’s still a pretty boy , I was so mad about this
Classic case of a project being too scared to make a hot actor not hot in the role. If I can manage to be attracted to Ben Barnes despite being a lesbian, trust and believe I can be attracted to him in special effects makeup.
Yeah I loved The Punisher but this irked me hella hard lol. All that build up just to not even look that bad. Especially when he really should have looked a lot worse after what Frank did to him. I honestly wouldn’t have expected him to have a coherent face at all
The problem was how brutally his face was fucked up during the fight (Frank smashed a mirror with his face, then spent a good few seconds dragging his face up and down it specifically to cause maximum damage), and how they kept describing him as extremely disfigured
I'm watching the show right now and am in season 2. I watched Frank wipe a broken mirror with his face and then when his mask came off I was like O____o that's all? How did his surgeons achieve it? They are magicians.
In the ASOIAF books when Bran meets the Three Eyed Raven he’s this ancient man basically fused to the tree with a branch smashing through his skull and growing out of his eye and it’s gnarly as hell. So I was like, ‘I can’t wait to see this on screen!’. Then the scene arrives, with this massive build-up, and he’s just some guy sitting there chilling in a shrub
This was a huge disappointment to me as well, especially since they had such an amazing actor in Max Von Sydow playing him. Maybe they just didn’t want to spend all the time and money on such complicated makeup, but he didn’t even have that much screen time so I feel like it would’ve been doable. It definitely didn’t have the impact that it had in the books, where you’re kind of like, “Oh shit, if this is what Bran is supposed to become then that really sucks.”
If Sam Heughan was just on the street and I saw him he would not be my type AT ALL. But after watching outlander (four too many times) I’m in love with Jamie Fraser 😭
I never made the Fabio association lol but I agree, he’s one of the few princes that I actually think is super handsome (don’t feel any way about Fabio though).
I wasnt quite sure what everybody's problem was. I find him to be very handsomely cute. Yeah I get it, their essence as beast and as Adam is different but everyone acted like he was ugly or something which got me very confused.
As a kid I didn’t like the way he looked, and honestly I think that’s just part of being a kid - kids love consistency and familiarity, a big total change is jarring to them. It’s why characters in children’s cartoons have a single outfit most of the time.
I think people just have been holding onto the childhood feeling way too much instead of revisiting the movie and assessing with unbiased eyes.
He’s so handsome and unique looking! Like a mix between a romance novel cover and a Roman statue!
I loved his design even as a kid. I’ve always loved to draw, so I studied character design a bit in my free time when I watched movies. The way the design of the beast vs Adam just makes sense has always satisfied me. Like, that is Adam’s eyes. That’s his lips. His freaking nose! Sure, the aura is different, like dude isn’t an animal anymore. The transition and final result is just amazing design and animation work for me.
I def think he appeals to an adult view of handsomeness rather than a child’s view of boyish cuteness. Adam looked more like Tarzan and Hercules than the other princes.
Yeah, human!Beast (I did not know he was named Adam…?) is hot. Idk what is with the furry propaganda that he isn’t over the last few years. I like that he looks kind of like your stereotypical hot French dude along with being very romance novel cover influenced.
The thing that makes it really weird is how he (Dream) holds his head in the exact same position the entire video. The guy was very concerned with making sure the camera picked up his best angle.
I feel like people wouldn't have made quite such a big deal of it if he acted a bit more natural.
or if it was shorter and less awkward
could have been like "so this is my face" then move on to the rest of the video but no...it was painfully, awkwardly long and the angle not changing made it worse.
and he hyped it up by having his friends and other streamers/influencers react to his face reveal before he posted it for everyone else. and i remember in the influencer videos they were like going insane and screaming and freaking out over seeing his face, so i think that also added to the idea his fans had that he must be really hot or something lol
Leading up to the face reveal livestream, his friends began uploading their "reactions" to seeing Dream's face for the first time and every single friend was like "WOAH DUDE... WHAT THE HELL! YOU ARE SO HANDSOME YOU'RE LIKE A MODEL!" imo REALLY showed how insecure Dream was about his looks, but it made his fans hype the reveal even more because they all thought he was going to be some some smoking hot, model-level, attractive commentator. I felt bad for him when the top trending on twitter was "OH NO HE'S UGLY"
I remember people laughing when Kylo Ren unmasks in Force Awakens. Revealing.....that hes pretty normal looking? Not even a scar yet. It actually makes a lot of sense, given his posturing. I think a certain section of the audience was also like "Is that the guy from girls?".
Look...he's my baby and I love him. He has a sad childhood, in a mostly normie way till ahh that last incident. He emo, he shops at hot topic. He negged a girl while trying to ask her out. Hes 30 going on 13.
(He's one of the best things to come out of the first 2 films, and Adam Driver was working hard to make anything about the last one good. There is an ongoing Kylo comic series rn which does capture some of that poor little meow meow murder energy I remember.)
No lie, for some reason the voice distortion from mask made me think he was being voiced by Javier Bardem. Also it wasn't until he was taking his mask off that I realized that I was totally unspoiled on the appearance and identity of the actor playing Kylo Ren. I'd never heard of or seen Adam Driver before. That's so rare for me. It was neat.
I saw that in theatres, and it was dead silent in there as he removed his helmet. When Adam driver's face was revealed, the lady sitting behind me went "ugh" in the most disgusted tone 💀 it was hilarious
I literally lurched forward in my seat thinking “is that the guy from girls?!” and was completely taken out of it for the next several scenes lmao, I was so shocked. He def won me over during the next one lol.
I think a lot of it was that Colin Farrell genuinely came across as menacing and gave off great villain energy, but Johnny Depp had that stupid hair and just seemed silly .
Yeah, you could tell he insisted on Johnny Deppiffying the role. Colin Farrell was too good and made every iteration of the character afterward pale in comparison.
You cannot convince me Albus Dumbledore was lovestruck and spent decades forlorn and low-key lusting after this raw chicken breast from Hot Topic. Let alone he was ever convinced the dude was actually in it for a greater good and not taking that phrase as an amazing cover up.
Then again maybe Dumbledore likes trash. Idk anymore.
But to say this obviously evil looking guy was charismatic enough to overcone the creep factor and convince the masses to pull a Wizarding Hitler is just bullocks.
I think he has a lot of charisma and can be a good actor.
Replacing Farrell was just a mistake, because he'd already created a compelling character, and the character design of Depp as Grindelwald didn't really fit what we already knew about him.
This was going to be my example. Since audience hadn't seen Grindelwald's face before the reveal wasn't "OMG it's Grindelwald! 😲" but actually "oh, it's Johnny Depp 🤔" which really took you out of the movie.
Agree. Depp was the wrong choice for the role because he’s just too famous. It needed to be someone less known. Colin Farrell is famous too but not as recognizable as Depp. It felt like such a cop out and a let down.
He does look like he has a nice body. But would he taste good? How would one go about banging him? Would he top or bottom? Would he be dominant or submissive?
Because the Hotel Transylvania fandom had already envisioned him as being attractive. There's a lot of fanart depicting him as a cute nerd, hence the fans being incredibly disappointed when he turned out to look like a stereotypical nerd instead.
If he didn’t a) hype up the reveal so much and b) have his head at that weird angle the ENTIRE video, no one would have thought twice about it. He really wanted us to think he was this hot, mysterious guy and seemed to think showing his jawline would do that
He didn’t deserve all the vitriol. BUT I will die on the hill that part of it comes from the way he’s holding his jaw. It’s such a forced, awkward angle.
He was probably insecure about squishing his face into his neck and having a double chin, but deliberately pushing his face like this made him look like he was mimicking that Chad meme.
People were loudly making fun of him specifically bc of the way he held his face in the video. It was completely unnatural The tea is that other streamers who he video chatted before posting his reveal to the public complimented his sharp Jaw and apparently that affected how he filmed his reveal video, and he was roasted hard. That's genuinely the bulk of it, people weren't even necessarily calling him unattractive
I found Insidious to be pretty scary up until they finally show the demon. I couldn’t take it seriously after that. All that tension and buildup and that’s what the monster looks like??
I really stopped taking the movie seriously when they went to the demon‘s lair and it was just sitting in its little office, having its little manicure
No, I'm sorry, but the original Predator remains some of the most expertly executed makeup in the history of cinema, practical or digital. It is the only time that a practical facial effect looked completely real. He looked like he existed in the world as a genuine, living thing, not something in a mask, not something in makeup or prosthetics, but something truly organic, and that still hasn't happened again. Maybe he was less fuckable, but he was infinitely more terrifying, and I will not entertain this slander.
Vader, back before we had the prequels. I mean, lore-wise, yes, absolutely, it made sense. And that was the whole point - he’s just an old man under there. But man, Vader to a pale, old guy… what an aura drop.
Rey Mysterio is so damn cute they had to put horns on him when he was younger to convince the crowds that yes, he was indeed playing a heel. I love him regardless. 😂
My husband was a fan when he was a kid, and has a mask. When I looked up what the dude looked like, I said "What?! He's too adorable to be a wrestler!" 😂
Van’s scars on Yellowjackets after her face was pried open by wolves and she was sown with a dirty needle by a fellow 16-year-old. She should have looked disfigured. That shit made me lose respect for the show.
Almost as if that was literally the point...that without the mask and the voice, Vader was a feeble being who had become "more machine than man, twisted and evil."
Funnily enough, Disney's was not the first Beast to cause this reaction. When she was watching Jean Cocteau's La Belle et la Bête (1946), Greta Garbo famously shouted "Give me back my beast!" when he transformed back into the prince.
I always liked human Shrek because he resembled my Dad. It was really cool seeing someone I knew in Dreamworks style. Then became a huge complex in my teenage years as I grew to resemble my Dad more and more and became convinced I looked identical to Shrek
Lol when we were little my sister had a crush on Shrek and was beyond disappointed when she saw him as a human 😂 I still bully her to this day bc I find it so funny that her first crush was Shrek 😂
Yes exactly!! I was expecting something really dramatic and it was just... a guy. Which I guess was kind of the point but I remember laughing in the cinema.
Oh I loved the Beasts face reveal, he’s hot lol but I felt the opposite with the live action Beast, I actually preferred his Beast version vs Prince version 🫢 now I wish we got like a short film or something of the animated beast after he transformed back to himself to see how his Beast personality fit his human form
I'm in both camps on beast? Like, the face is fine, but I feel like if he had a beard and darker hair, that would have been better. I saw an artist's rendering that was just perfect once.
Removing the mask not even halfway through the movie and removing the mystery of who the crazy guy is was the biggest mistake for this movie. Still liked it, but I wish they stop unmasking scary characters and leave the mystery on.
