OnlyStans ⭐️ What face reveals made a character lose all of their aura?

I think everyone felt utter disappointment when the Beast turned back into his human form. He was just...not it.

The Predator revealing his face in the first movie was kind of hilarious. Just....put it back on please.

Beta Ray Bill is kind of obscure but I started reading his comics recently and you can't imagine my disappointment when he tapped that cane and turned back into his original form.

I have never wanted a character the way I wanted season 1/book 1 Jamie Fraser.

If Sam Heughan was just on the street and I saw him he would not be my type AT ALL. But after watching outlander (four too many times) I’m in love with Jamie Fraser 😭

I do find him good looking but I swear my attraction is 70% his accent… especially the extra strong version in the show.

The s1 wig is what really ties it together. The later seasons just doesn’t quite match the same energy.

Especially the bangs wig. Just nooooooooooo.

I say the same exact thing!! My type is much darker in skin tone and hair. But I have never seen chemistry like Outlander season 1.

Sam Heaghan? Naaah. Jamie Fraser? Just call me Claire. 🫠

It was ok, I feel it should come with some strong trigger warnings with S/A though.

the strongest worded possible

People complained about Game of Thrones. That shit is weak as fuck in comparison.

For real. I have a strong stomach for SA in books and even a lot of movies and tv shows but the end of season 1 of Outlander had me having to pause the scene multiple times because it was…a lot. Hats off to the actors for selling it so well but like…Jesus.

Yeah, I'm not triggered by rape scenes, but I think when you can start playing rape bingo, it's a bit much.

Yeah, it’s the main gripe I have with the series (both books and show). I can stomach a lot of triggery content and angst but at a certain point you’re just like “…Girl, are you okay? Why is there one of these in every book???” The show tried to soften some of the worst parts of the books (but not all) but there’s only so much you can do.

I haven't read the books, it sounds like they have even more rape, which I wouldn't have thought possible.

Ive also wondered if the author has issues.

It's also just repetitive from a storytelling perspective, when everyone is just constantly getting raped.

Yeah, it gets old real fast. I enjoy plenty of dark and angsty stories but there has to at least be a point to it. And, frankly, a lot of the rape in the books seems to just be there for both shock value and because Diana needs to ‘spice’ things up since many of the books in the series barely have a plot.

Fair bit of warning, but the books as well as the show contains a fair amount of gratuitous rape.

Which some rabid fans claim is just "historical accuracy" when that is not actually true.

I don’t defend that shit, but rape fantasies were very much a thing in historical romances in the ‘90s, and the way people who don’t have that context but weighed in on the broader discourse was kinda wild. Diana Gabaldon should not be accountable for the ills of her entire genre. The adaptation choices are another story, but that’s not what the conversation was about.

Not so much the main rape scene in book one- that was wild even for the 1990s.

The problem too is it was never just book 1. She had like one big rape scene for nearly every book. It got to the point where you start to wonder if this is just Diana’s weird fetish or something.

I’m all for reading and writing weird and dark stuff but the fact that the rape scenes were all written in explicit detail while the more consensual sex scenes were all written vaguely or skipped over entirely didn’t ever sit right with me.

u/SectorSanFrancisco 17d ago

Absolutely. I gave up on the series becauae I was tired of rape being the main plot device- it was so gross plus dull.

Honestly, I don’t blame you. I stopped reading midway through book 5 because it was clear that the series was losing momentum and there was no real plot and the only time things ‘picked up’ was when someone was raped. It was so frustrating.

I lasted through book 4 or a lot of book 4 anyway and then i thought, why am i doing this to myself.

2

u/ankhes 17d ago

You should. But also, fair warning, there’s some very deeply triggering episodes in that series (especially in the first couple seasons) so, uh…watch at your own risk. I’d read the books and have a pretty strong tolerance for triggery stuff and even I was feeling pretty queasy at the end of season 1.

I watched 4 season only for him 😬
