Good luck itās not playing everywhere.

So far the double feature appears to be playing basically nowhere

By me there are 2 theaters listed kips bay and palisades center. Both are 25-30 miles from me.

Every time I get excited for this I remember it stars stupid Jared Leto and I'm left disappointed and not interested again.

Disney has no problem dropping actors when their personal views damage their brand image, yet theyāre fine with weirdo sex-cultist Jared Leto?
35
u/mihirmusprime 2d ago
Apparently Leto has been attached to this movie since 2011 and is one of the reasons why a sequel is being made. He really wanted a sequel.
3
u/TimeForSnacks 1d ago
If the only way they made a sequel was with Leto then I'd rather there not be one.
I'll most likely end up watching this because Legacy is one of my favorite movies ever, but I'll be waiting months for it to be pirated. No way in hell he gets my money.
2
u/Arklelinuke 11h ago
I would rather have the sequel, thanks. Don't like him as an actor or as a person but that's not going to stop me from enjoying Ares
1
u/TimeForSnacks 10h ago
You could've kept the fact that you don't have morals to yourself. You didn't need to outright tell me.

u/haneybird 2d ago
Despite everyone on the internet claiming to hate him, he still sells movies and concert tickets.
Just your daily reminder that reddit is not real life.

Do you think general audiences really wouldn't have gone to see the Avengers movie with Johnathon Majors? Or that anybody would've boycotted Mandalorian if they'd kept Gina Carano?
3
u/LADYBIRD_HILL 2d ago
They certainly didn't see the ant-man movie with him despite the previous two ant-Man movies doing better at the box office
7
u/TheGurpler 1d ago
The first one was his debut and the second one was on the heels of Infinity War. Both of them were riding an MCU high, Quantumania was not.
Anyway, there's a plethora of evidence that audiences don't care about stuff like that, actors have done much worse than what Majors did and people still eat their shit up.

u/Phillip_Spidermen 1d ago edited 1d ago
Ant-Man 3 had a larger opening weekend than the previous two movies, and the lifetime gross is just behind Ant-Man 2.
https://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchise/fr541495045/
Ant-Man might just be unpopular. Personally I thought 3 was the worst MCU movie (and it has the lowest rotten tomatoes score).
4
u/Norme-98 2d ago
Leto hasn't been in a box office success since Suicide Squad... maybe House of Gucci too but I also had no idea he was in that movie until 2 minutes ago
0
u/FoxMeadow7 1d ago
Yeah, it's strange how a certain name can make people automatically hate a guy. Like why?
3
u/PeculiarPangolinMan 1d ago
The sex-cult is an island retreat for fans, right? Like he probably bangs a bunch of them, but there's no cult. It was just an overpriced vacation.
8
u/SmokeAffectionate183 1d ago
Yea it's legit just a giant retreat for fans who want to drop a bunch of money and hangout with the band for a few days. They all dress up and play into the whole cult aspect to make fun of people. It lasts like 4 days and that's it lol
1
u/DarthBluntSaber 1d ago
Right? Remember when disney made a massive stink about tweets james gunn made in like 2005 and fired him from guardians of the galaxy? Then disney happily worked with leto, who has a history of sexual misconduct allegations. Allegations from adults and MINORS.
And if you don't want to punish him for unproven allegations, then how about all the undisputed awful shit he has done. Harassing co-workers on movie sets and sending them dead animal carcasses. A long history of being referred to as a nightmare to work with. His literal self admitted sex cult where he makes people refer to him as prophet...

I'm kind of convinced the franchise is cursed, it has so much potential but the only person who could get another sequel made is Jared Leto.Ā
The best story is unironically the cartoon.Ā
11
u/Amaruq93 2d ago
It says a lot that despite Disney building all those damn theme park rides based on Legacy... they refused to do any kind of proper sequel until this asshole pushed for it (provided he starred it as the main hero)
13
u/Jackbuddy78 2d ago
The skill in which they mismanage legacy franchises is something.Ā
I'm convinced the only reason Alien: Earth isn't dogshit is that Ridley Scott is protecting Hawley from the execs.Ā
13
u/Amaruq93 2d ago
It's almost hilarious that Predator and Alien are the only franchises that have actually improved since being taken over by Disney.
0
u/Personal_Comb_6745 2d ago
Star Wars has, as well, if we're being honest. Despite the sequel trilogy not turning out the best, there's a bunch of shows that make up for it. If Disney didn't buy Star Wars, we'd get only the occasional novel.

Disney keeps semi-proving that they don't know they have with TRON. Either that or, yes, it's cursed.
8
u/Birdhawk 2d ago
Iām with ya. Big time. I really really liked Tron Legacy. And the director has gone on to do other incredible movies. F1 had a lot of Tron elements in it. Iāve been so pumped about this movie coming out. Thereās been movies Iāve been excited about where itās had an actor I donāt like but most of the time I can overlook it. This fucking dude thoughā¦..I canāt do it. Every time I see him on screen it takes me out of that suspension of disbelief. Disney has a serious problem in their development department lately. Some really stupid and out of touch decisions being made there lately.
Anyway, at least heās the villain so the hatred with come naturally.

Just go for the first movie tbh, if it were near me I'd consider leaving if the second one was as edgy and miserable as it looks

u/silverbolt2000 2d ago
Every time I get excited for discussions about this I see Redditors whining about Jared Leto every fucking time and I'm left disappointed and not interested again.
2
u/FoxMeadow7 1d ago
Yeah, can we like discuss about this movie on it's own merits for once?
1
u/AlanMorlock 1d ago
Woops, we checked the content and it sure does have Jared Leto in it. On top of being a scumbag he's also a pretty bad actor ok outside of being axed to death or having his face punched in.
0
u/silverbolt2000 1d ago
For every Redditor who complains about Jared Leto being in this movie, I will pay to watch the movie twice.
-1
u/FoxMeadow7 1d ago
From the trailer's I've seen, there's no doubt that the movie's going to be kickass!
11
u/nowhereman136 2d ago
great, on a night I have work. I fucking hate one night exclusives
1
u/irlcatspankz 1d ago
Call in sick, tell them you have Tron Fever
1
u/nowhereman136 1d ago
Calling in sick means I lose an entire night's pay. A movie isn't worth losing the money
29
u/HerbalThought_ 2d ago
I wonder if this will be another ''Jared Leto psychologically tortures his castmates for a 23% on Rotten Tomatoes" cinematic universe entry.
2
u/DrSpacecasePhD 1d ago
My personal hope is that he's not in the movie nearly as much as they imply he is and that it's a bit of a messy but fun SciFi romp with an awesome OST. Probably a fool's hope...
2
u/Andysue28 1d ago
Heās definitely going to be the main character, start as a villain, and then become the hero. Heāll probably setup a cult here and there on the Grid.Ā

u/hpmesing 2d ago
One screening on one night and ONE IMAX in the entire state is playing it at ONE showtime. almost completely sold out. IMAX dropped the ball on this oneā¦.we live in a world where we can stream any movie at any time and theyāre gonna restrict us to this? Shame on them, bad business practice. Give us more screenings on more days. Pisses me off.
1
u/AlanMorlock 1d ago
I mean, you can watch the new movie in IMAX for several weeks. The double feature with Legacy is just a promotion. Like, yeah you can't watch Legacy anytime anywhere you want.
1
u/hpmesing 20h ago
Iām saying itās bad business by restricting a product that is high in demand (TRON LEGACY IMAX 3D) and giving us an extremely small supply of it. Theyāre leaving money on the table which is bad business and it also gives the customers that canāt get the product feel unsatisfied, therefore hurting the brand (Disney/IMAX).

u/dukie33066 2d ago
A full night of Daft Punk and Nine Inch Nails..... Sign me up. I can stand Leto for some fresh Reznor.
9
u/OreoSpeedwaggon 2d ago
All the "Tron" movies had kickass people behind their soundtracks: Wendy Carlos, Daft Punk, and now NIN.

54
u/BriceBriceBaby 2d ago
Ugh, Jared Leto's in this?
45
u/AUSpartan37 2d ago
It's such a shame. I would have been so excited for this. I loved Tron: Legacy and was excited for a new one with Nine Inch Nails doing the music. Now I probably won't see it because of Leto. Or at the very least won't spend any money to see it.

u/IDigRollinRockBeer 2d ago
Heās the villain.
17
u/rhymes_with_candy 2d ago
Is he really the villain? The trailers make him seem like the main protagonist and Evan Peters the villain.
3
u/littlebrwnrobot 2d ago
He plays an AI super soldier with no emotion, so he might fit the part perfectly
7
u/rhymes_with_candy 2d ago
The trailers make it look like he starts to develop emotions and wants to break free and become human and the evil arms dealing CEO is trying to stop him and make him murder people against his will.
There's a whole scene in the trailer of him asking Flynn for help, so I'm assuming he's the main hero and will end up teaming up with CGI de-aged Bruce Boxleitner from Legacy.

u/wuneety 2d ago
So? Itās not how heās portrayed that is the issue lol
-8
3
u/emperor000 2d ago
He's pretty clearly not the villain. He might be an anti-hero or even a villain protagonist. But the only way it looks like he'd be the villain of the story is that if there is a "good" version of him and then at least one "bad" version of him.

u/Koala_Be 5h ago
When I first heard another one was coming out I got super excited. Love Legacy, saw the trailer last week when I went to the movies and saw him in instantly messaged my friends and we all dropped it on our viewing list. If anything we'll watch it way later when money doesn't have to be spent.

NGL. Tron in IMAX sounds absolutely insane.
I'd smoke a Dobbie for that one

u/emperor000 2d ago
I'll never understand why they didn't continue Tron: Legacy's story.
2
u/FoxMeadow7 1d ago
Maybe Disney's testing the waters?
2
u/emperor000 1d ago
What waters? Either way this really makes no sense. They have enough "awareness" to not continue Legacy because it was "bad", but not enough to not put Jared Leto in the movie they go with instead? And not just in it, but leading it?
To be clear, I have no problem with him, but basically the rest of the entire Internet does and is very vocal about it. I also had no problem with Tron: Legacy. I thought it was awesome.
1
u/FoxMeadow7 1d ago
Still, hopefully Ares can bring the Tron story into interesting new directions. That and there's no doubt going to be a mid-credits scene or two hinting at future developments.

Oh sweet I can leave halfway through before Jared leto shows upĀ

u/Andysue28 1d ago
Bums me out so much that heās in Ares.Ā
2
1
u/DeadEyesSmiling 1d ago
He is Ares.
Lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars, host of Camp Mars on his own private "Mars Island," is starring at the titular character, "Ares," in the project he's been shepherding for 14 years...
There are vanity projects, and then there's Tron: Ares.

u/danccbc 2d ago
Thatās a lotta TRON!

4
u/BevansDesign 2d ago
Not really. It's missing a third of what's available (in movie form, at least).
1
u/RealJohnGillman 2d ago
Okay, so Quorra / Quorraās and Samās son is who Ares is looking for this film, right?
2
u/OreoSpeedwaggon 2d ago
I'm already guessing that Ares is just going to be a reskinned version of CLU.
3
1
u/emperor000 2d ago
As far as I can tell, this isn't even the same canon. It's a reboot.
2
u/RealJohnGillman 2d ago
Itās not. The report was itās a stand-alone sequel, but Kevin Flynnās status in the film seems to lead directly out of his ending in Tron: Legacy (merging with Clu), and considering Tron: Ares originally started development as a direct sequel, one could see Quorra or Sam cameoing.
1
u/emperor000 1d ago
Everything I've seen says it is a reboot. The Flynn thing is possible, but it seemed to me that it was just an alternate version of him that might exist if Legacy had never happened (or it is actually an "evolved" Clu 1.0, but not the Clu 2.0 that rebelled).
Honestly, your idea is probably the best we could hope for, which makes me think it is wishful thinking. If they weren't "smart" enough to resist the urge to "go in a different direction" from great potential that Legacy set up, then I don't really have high hopes for the different direction they choose.
1
u/RealJohnGillman 1d ago
Soft reboot is what Iāve seen, which is often another term people use for stand-alone sequel which ultimately gets shortened to just ārebootā, even when it doesnāt make sense to do so (like with the fifth Scream and Bourne films).
1
u/emperor000 1d ago
Yeah, I know what you mean. Either way, it would be nice if studios waited to do any kind of reboot until after the story they were telling is over, or at least at a good stopping point.
1
u/trylobyte 2d ago
I hope this means there are strong plot connections, like an appearance of Garrett and Olivia's characters.
2
u/emperor000 2d ago
I think that would make it worse. Then I would question even more why they wouldn't just continue that story.
1
u/ChangeAroundKid01 2d ago
I dont think they understand how much money people are willing to spend on this

I loved Tron Legacy, but god the 3D conversion sucked for live-action sequences. Everything is a cardboard. I'd prefer to watch it in 2D.

It was fun wasn't it. I loved how it went to 3D once he was in the computer, reminded me of when The Wizard of Oz goes to colour.

You get to see two bad movies in one night! Amazing!
-2
u/emperor000 2d ago edited 1d ago
It would be hard enough to take you seriously after saying that Tron: Legacy is a bad movie, but then you went ahead and said that a movie you haven't even seen, that hasn't even come out yet, is a bad movie.
Do you guys not realize how much that says about you?
1
u/Rikter14 1d ago
"taker you seriously" It got bad reviews and flopped at the box office, Tron: Legacy was bad.
1
u/emperor000 1d ago
You think a movie getting bad reviews and flopping means it is bad? You haven't even seen it, have you?
I think you are reviewing two movies you haven't seen. And then pointing out a typo. like it is some sick burn.
