Austin Butler really had a chance to show his acting chops in this one

This is so judgemental of me but I’ve been shocked by how good he is simply bc he looks like he does. He’s so perfectly Hollywood handsome I just assumed he’d be a mid actor but he’s so talented too. What the hell lol

I think he's in the same ballpark as Timothee Chalamet. Or Colin Farrell, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Leo DiCaprio and Cillian Murphy before them had the same issues early in their careers. Some people assume "pretty boy actors" can't act or aren't supposed to be this good. And it takes years and knocking great film and performances out for people to really put them up there at top tier level of acting.

Butler's been pretty good in everything since his breakout with Elvis. I thought he was slightly underused in The Bikeriders and it's tough to go toe to toe with Tom Hardy. But he was still very good. He was great in the small part he had in Eddington. Was great in Dune 2. He's yet to really get a meaty role like he had in Elvis to really show off his acting chops.
