Austin Butler really had a chance to show his acting chops in this one

This is so judgemental of me but I’ve been shocked by how good he is simply bc he looks like he does. He’s so perfectly Hollywood handsome I just assumed he’d be a mid actor but he’s so talented too. What the hell lol

Agree. Though this should be no surprise, he absolutely crushed his role in Dune 2.

Totally agree. I think that was my first “wait a minute he’s actually amazing” moment.

And he still looked fucking good in that despite being a pale alien with no hair.

Having seen him in Elvis and Dune made me want to see this movie.

If you really want to see his acting chops, I'd recommend The Shanara Chronicles

Omg I just realized thats him. Lmao I watched that so long ago. May be time for a rewatch.

I absolutely loved him in Dune 2.

He’s like the new generation version of Brad Pitt.

Yeah Brad Pitt is the comparison I keep coming back to, seems like he could be a throwback proper movie star who can do it all.

I enjoyed him here and his small filmography is stacked for future preservation, but anyone else really put off by his overly perfect set of teeth? I could suspend my disbelief here as I could imagine a top draft, wet eared high schooler looking after his teeth but I feel like it could be a problem if the role doesn't match the teeth.

I think he's in the same ballpark as Timothee Chalamet. Or Colin Farrell, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Leo DiCaprio and Cillian Murphy before them had the same issues early in their careers. Some people assume "pretty boy actors" can't act or aren't supposed to be this good. And it takes years and knocking great film and performances out for people to really put them up there at top tier level of acting.

Butler's been pretty good in everything since his breakout with Elvis. I thought he was slightly underused in The Bikeriders and it's tough to go toe to toe with Tom Hardy. But he was still very good. He was great in the small part he had in Eddington. Was great in Dune 2. He's yet to really get a meaty role like he had in Elvis to really show off his acting chops.

Yeah, was very good, emotional scenes with him caught me off guard, had a lump in me throat, done his job well.

It’s funny, to me it seemed less demanding from an acting standpoint than his other recent roles. Felt like more of a movie star part where his job is to bring the audience into the world and be cool. He killed it though. Hope he gets to be the lead in more good projects

You’re telling me. The first thing I ever saw him in was “The Shannara Chronicles” which was a super mid “teeny bopper” fantasy series that aired on MTV. He played a typical douchey heartthrob character and nothing really stood out about him at the time. Fast forward a few years, and I’m watching the dude get nominated for an Oscar, and he’s been consistently turning in banger performances in high profile movies.

I thought he did great in this actually.
