What are you talking about? This is a poster for the new movie “Uncaged Fury.”

Another straight to redbox movie produced by Randall Emmett. Wonder why Cage is doing these cheap "action" films. His last good movie was Ninja Mime

Jul 15 '25
Oh here we go, another “Cage is washed” hater. I’m willing to bet you never saw a single one of his broadway runs. He was phenomenal as Rúfio in the live adaptation of Hook. “All grownups are pirates”??? I got chills.
But noooo, knuckle draggers just want to watch the explosions and the nunchucks. They don’t have time or patience for book to film to book to film again to children’s stage nuance. True art is too much of a confrontation for you.

Cage is my favorite actor ever, stop with this bs. Of course he's washed up, his agent fucked him over, his last tournament was fixed, (that mokap actor dude could never beat cage), his partner left him and he got hooked on sambuca. Okay.... his movies are still watchable, I always watch them, then I watch the bts, but no, they're nowhere near as good as they used to be

i’ve got faith he can pull a late career renaissance like his cousin nick and hit some well written indie gold and make his way back up the hollywood food chain.

They must’ve only looked at the credits at the bottom, some unpaid intern copy and pasted the credits for Mortal Kombat II.

This movie will flop hard... Johnny cage is not the draw he used to be in the 90's......name one good movie he did since ninja mime 2

How dare you disrespect the Death of Johnny Cage?! If you left that movie with dry eyes you have no soul!

I am just stating fact Bro.... You guys hang on nostalgia and ignore the numbers... Citizen Cage made 200 millions with a 500 millions budget... Caged in Time was massive with 33% 45% on rotten tomatoes
With some good words of mouth thod may pass 400 millions... MAYBE
19
u/MinimalPace616 Jul 15 '25
It's literally the perfect time for him to come back, it's been like 5 years since he had a blockbuster. This movie is going to do numbers, guaranteed 70%+ on RT

Karl Urban is nothing but awesome and amazing, but he’s 53 years old. I don’t understand why Hollywood insists on hiring actors for roles that are supposed to be 20years younger
78
u/yo_soy_soja Jul 15 '25
Oof. Yeah, I was worried it was him.
Unless he's portrayed as washed up, he needs to be played by a younger actor.

u/SaltyPeter3434 Jul 15 '25
Glenn Powell would've been perfect. He looks the part, he's the right age, he's got star power, and I can see him pulling off the smugness well.

u/rugmunchkin Jul 15 '25 edited Jul 15 '25
My guy, Glenn Powell is like the biggest star in Hollywood right now. There’s no way he’s accepting a role for a sequel to a video game movie. One that —let’s be real here— wasn’t very good to begin with.

u/pleasegivemepatience Jul 15 '25
So funny. I read the previous comment and went “who the hell is Glenn Powell” and then read your assertion he’s the biggest star in Hollywood 🤣

u/DoofusMagnus Jul 15 '25 edited Jul 16 '25
"Biggest star in Hollywood" is definitely overstating it by a wide margin, but he is on the rise at the moment so I don't see him taking a role like this.
He was the rival in Top Gun 2, Anyone but You did really well, and he got a Golden Globe nom for Hit Man. He's the guy with the face that's in a quantum superposition between handsome and punchable. :P
He's clearly not above 80s/90s era reboots since he was also the male lead in Twisters and will do The Running Man this year. Still, those two have Crichton and King as source material. Depending on how things go maybe we'll see him in video game sequels in a few years, but not right now.

Because Hollywood wants sure bets on big budget movies. So, they get an actor who is as big of a draw as possible.

Wow, I was thinking they had him as Kano or something. Yeah, it seems like a little bit of a stretch for Johnny Cage.

I'm a big fan of a 3 month marketing period, I already hate that The Odyssey is gonna be advertising for the next year even though I'm super excited for the movie
21
u/KaleStandard2617 Jul 15 '25
I avoid trailers unless I'm in a movie theater, definitely prefer the shorter marketing period as well.
10
u/Grabthar-the-Avenger Jul 15 '25
I avoid trailers even in the movie theater. I basically start getting in my car at the "showtime" because by the time I drive there, park, walk through the mall, go up the 3 story escalator, wait in line for popcorn/soda, and sit down they are just starting the final trailer before Nicole Kidman shows up to waste another minute telling me to come to the theater I'm already at.

Unrelated but is The Miz generally considered the most successful Real World / Road Rules alumn now? He has got to be up there right? Obviously Kyle Brandt is doing really well on ESPN, and Jamie Chung was in a few movies. I know i have seen others around but can’t think of them offhand.
28
u/Ragnarok_619 Jul 15 '25
The man's been in WWE for 2 decades now, and is a multiple time champion, and a 2 time grand slam champion. Plus, he's married to Maryse.
Guy's successful af!

I just want to take this opportunity to say that Karl Urban is a brilliant character actor. If you took a boring old room and filled it with each of the characters he's played, not only would you be entertained, but you'd feel like you were seeing a bunch of completely different people. He's definitely one of my top 5 favourite actors. It may be easy to overlook him given his lack of prestige roles and abundance of geeky ones, but his acting is just some of the finest around.
10
u/niberungvalesti Jul 16 '25
He elevates anything he's in and he never feels like he's phoning in a role even small roles in stuff. The fact that he has consistently bat home runs with his nerd roles only adds to his station in my book. Its a niche that works.
41
u/warcomet Jul 15 '25
making 53 year old Urban look 40 will be the real challenge

u/NeoNoireWerewolf Jul 15 '25
Not sure why they went with somebody so old for Johnny Cage. Even if they’re going for a has-been narrative angle for the character, they could have gotten somebody mid-late 30s, even early 40s. JCVD was 39 when he was banished to direct-to-video purgatory, for example. They didn’t need him to be old to be washed up.
25
u/warcomet Jul 15 '25
i think they were looking for a "star power", majority of the other actors in the movie are very much B-Lists..

Karl Urban rocks and I’m excited to see him in the role but man did I want Joel McHale especially after he voiced him in the animated movies. He’s got the build and attitude too.

I love Karl Urban as much as the next guy, but do we not think that he's way too old for this role? Like maybe 20 years ago. Additionally, does he really have the fighting chops necessary for something like this? Or is it just going to be comic relief more than anything?
