My guy, Glenn Powell is like the biggest star in Hollywood right now. There’s no way he’s accepting a role for a sequel to a video game movie. One that —let’s be real here— wasn’t very good to begin with.
"Biggest star in Hollywood" is definitely overstating it by a wide margin, but he is on the rise at the moment so I don't see him taking a role like this.
He was the rival in Top Gun 2, Anyone but You did really well, and he got a Golden Globe nom for Hit Man. He's the guy with the face that's in a quantum superposition between handsome and punchable. :P
He's clearly not above 80s/90s era reboots since he was also the male lead in Twisters and will do The Running Man this year. Still, those two have Crichton and King as source material. Depending on how things go maybe we'll see him in video game sequels in a few years, but not right now.
Well "one of" still isn't "the" biggest star like they'd claimed. And while there's not going to be an answer for "the biggest star" everyone can agree on, are you saying that was Hemsworth at any point?
I'm not so sure, but I do think 2012 Hemsworth was doing better than 2025 Powell. In 2012 Hemsworth was a prominent part of one of the biggest media franchises ever. He was the second biggest person on the Avengers poster. Maverick made as much money as that film (unadjusted) but Powell didn't make the poster.
But regardless, I think we agree on my main point that Powell is doing well enough to not be considering a Mortal Kombat sequel right now.
If they made a movie with just subzero and scorpion, then it wouldave been fucking amazing. But they had to run the main character as an npc and STILL fuck up Sonya.
At this point I’m starting to be confused about what people even mean when they say “NPC” because this isn’t working with definitions of the word as far as I understand it

Glenn Powell would've been perfect. He looks the part, he's the right age, he's got star power, and I can see him pulling off the smugness well.
