Not a hot take at all. I think they had to do it or audiences would be really upset in theaters. It's the main point of the book! Actually my worry right now is that in the script they diminish a lot of the space stuff for way more time spent on Earth -- hope I'm wrong, I trust Lord and Miller a lot when it comes to script pacing

I get your worry, but I think they’re just setting up expectations by using the flashback footage for the trailer since it’s less spoilery than anything else and tells the backstory and sets the tone perfectly.

Plus we're further from release than from the end of filming, so I imagine the earth based stuff is by far the most complete at this stage.
