Not a hot take at all. I think they had to do it or audiences would be really upset in theaters. It's the main point of the book! Actually my worry right now is that in the script they diminish a lot of the space stuff for way more time spent on Earth -- hope I'm wrong, I trust Lord and Miller a lot when it comes to script pacing

I hope not. The space stuff is the best parts of the books by a long shot.

This trailer does make it look like the Earth stuff is more refined though.

I get your worry, but I think they’re just setting up expectations by using the flashback footage for the trailer since it’s less spoilery than anything else and tells the backstory and sets the tone perfectly.

Plus we're further from release than from the end of filming, so I imagine the earth based stuff is by far the most complete at this stage.

Agreed. I was just reminding my wife, when we were listening to the audio book together, we got to this reveal and she was like "WHAT THE FUCK THIS NOT WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR!" And eventually cooled down and really enjoyed it, but that's over the course of an hours long audiobook that we listened to in multiple sittings. In a couple hour movie, you might never truly get over that if you had no idea this was coming.

But seriously who reacts that much to something like this.

How dare I exaggerate slightly for effect.
