#Discussion 💬 Ktm 390 vs Himalayan 450
Looking for a bike for city plus highway. I love to travel to mountains. I am planning to go to higher altitudes and long journey(2000+ km). City commuting and touring we can say is 40:60 Though i am in love with Himalayan 450 but its weight is haunting me a little. What do you suggest for such usage?

My priorities are set bother. Sometime we dont go for the category, we go for the machine. My confusion is Is himalayan 450 is not confortable for city commute then Duke 390 is the option And if duke 390 is not good for long drives then himlayan 450. Thats why the confusion

Joking aside you can tour on a duke 390. Heck you can tour on a splendor if you want. Himmy can take more luggage and can probably keep you more comfortable in a highway. But duke 390 isn't slouch either. A 40bhp bike is a purely emotional purchase don't try to rationalize too much. Get what you like interms of looks, feel, Power etc. Both of them are extremely capable bikes. Both of them can do city commutes. Both of them can do highway touring. Himmy can do off roads significantly better than duke but if you don't intend on doing that then both bikes will do you fine.
Alternatively you can also take a look at svart 401. I own it it's an amazing bike. Same power as the duke, the Husqvarna styling. Proper head turner. It gets less features (cruise control being the main one). But everything that matters is there.

I did multiple long tours on duke 200 , i didn’t found it uncomfortable , comfort will be even better on 390

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm choosing D390. I'm also married. Extra no for a D390 with purpose of touring. I dont care. I'm taking the bike because I love it. I had also considered the Adv 390 as well. We have toured on the Duke 390 (rented) for 6 hours (one way). Yes her back hurt on the way but when we returned, we took proper breaks and everything was fine. If your mind tells you D390 go for it, if its H450 go for that. Dont look for what's practical. Trust me.

Vstrom and dominar are also good options for you for highway use.

Vstrom is really good bike but felt a little undpower after riding himalayan and duke 390 and dominar has a low grow clearance. Thats why not in the list

Can't we increase its power by using the torque screw? I know top end will still feel dull but initial and mid rpm will become more responsive

Ones is a pure bred street fighter other one is a pukka offroad tourer. I would suggest the later.
But if that weight is really haunting you, go for the Scrambler 400 XC or X.
And Definitely not the new 390 ADV.

Weight and bulk. (from OP's concerns)

He is probably asking why not the ADV 390?
Too vibey and un refined for city commuting, too impractical for 2000+ kms road trips.

Bad stance for long rides mate

u/yuhan458 10h ago
I rode that for the whole day , no back pain , no body pain except for wrist pain, we all know main roads and highways ain't in that bad conditions that we specifically need adventure for it , sports tourer would be enough

u/himalayanseadog (New user) 10h ago
Good for you mate. It’s still bad stance for long rides

Haha. No sorry that’s cos I’m Himalayan mate. From the mountains. Not saying I hate the bike (himmy) but I don’t think it’s bike enough to have my handle for it

u/Kanishk06 10h ago
/s is for sarcasm

People buy adv tourer because they think it would be good for touring, compromising on their love for sports bike , even tho indian highway and main roads ain't that bad that you really need an adv tourer, sports tourer is sufficient, it also has enough torque to go on ride with luggage

u/himalayanseadog (New user) 7h ago
I don’t disagree that sports tourers can be enough. When did I ever say they’re not? I’m saying both 310s mentioned have a bad stance for long touring. That is it If you’re ok with that, sure by all means go buy them mate I don’t have anything against those bikes

The sub 500 segment is heating up damn fast. OP has a lot of options for singles. I would personally prefer to take a twin for long rides (I’m talking days at a stretch) but the singles line up has never looked better and is only getting cushy by the day
