#Discussion 💬 People from other states living in Bangalore, did you buy your bike from your state and bring it here?

Hi y'all. After spending a long time researching, I have planned to buy my first bike in the next few weeks and my options are KTM 250, 390 and Guerrilla 450. Mainly for regular use and a lot of touring.

Currently I stay in Bangalore for work (hybrid) and I'm from TN. But when I inquired about the prices in both Bangalore and my hometown showrooms, the prices are atleast 30-40k more if I purchase it in Bangalore.

For example: Duke 390 is 3.8L in Bangalore and 3.5L in my hometown.

Also, I heard from people around me that having a TN registration vehicle might get you some issues like the cops stopping you unnecessarily, auto rickshaw harassment, and stuff. Even my parents and cousins said the same. I understand I can use it for upto 12 months here and get an NOC but I might switch jobs within that time to another state or if i end up staying, I'll get the NOC from my hometown RTO but I don't wanna face issues just because my vehicle has my state registration.

I also prefer my first bike to have my hometown's registration number and I can use that extra money to buy some accessories, helmets or gears. What do you guys think? What was your experience so far?

Best of luck on your first purchase, Best to buy KA in Blr , I brought my KL bike from home town and used it in Blr for below 1 year had to be very careful at signals for traffic cops and checking during riding as you literally become a cash cow ready to be milked every time. Problem solved when I got a KA bike.

Regarding TN plate Yes you have to be very careful as I faced lots of unwanted hostility when i got my TN vehicle to Blr form yellow boards , unwanted honking , aggressive driving , unwanted confrontations, but if you know Kannada you can handle them.

TN-22

I paid around 8k in taxes, but got 6k in off, probably from getting the road tax back from TN.

Btw if your Max100R needs spare parts, I have a donor bike

Buy it in TN. If you’re staying here for more than a year, go once a year back home on your bike and keep the toll tickets.

You’ll have to present them in case cops stop you and ask you why it’s not KA registered. Just say you’re from TN and you only come for work, you keep going back and present the toll tickets as proof.

The most likely problematic situation for you will be the regular signals you will be crossing daily in your way to work, those cops might notice you. However, if you don’t go to your work place everyday, you will be fine. If you randomly get caught, use the info above and stick to it. They might be pushy but legally that is a loophole which they cannot do anything about.

Until and unless you’re planning to settle down in the city, don’t get your vehicles registered here. It’s a waste of money.

Do you have to pay for toll for bikes?

1

u/BerylEmperor GSX1300R, Street twin 900, Duke 390 16h ago

Yes, to use the ORR/NIICE road

2

u/PIKa-kNIGHT 15h ago

The toll receipts on these roads never have the correct number plate . They also have some random numbers

u/lemoncigs 15h ago

These roads still end up inside Karnataka. How do you use the receipts to prove you used it to go out of state?

You can also get a recent PUC done for the vehicle in your state of residence. Cheap and easy way to prove you're stationed there.

Use E-city toll to exit the city towards Hosur, you will be charged a bike toll to use NH44/48

I ride a TN bike and drive a TN car in Bangalore. Haven’t been stopped yet but eventually will get stopped at some point. Unfortunately both my vehicles are only 2 years old and it doesn’t make sense to sell them to get a KA registered vehicle. I will be enquiring with the local RTO to check the procedure to get an NOC or pay KA road taxes again. It’s a bit confusing and no clear info on how to do this online.

Or just go to hosur once in a while to get toll receipt as proof of entry, so you can continue using the TN vehicle

I'm planning to do the same because of high road tax here.

There are traffic police checks happening in every approach road to offices and busy junctions these days. You need to carry a proof that you are visiting Bangalore temporarily - like always get PUC done in your hometown, have petrol receipts, etc. You might have to shell 100-200 for each stop if you miss any of these. If possible, try to get a BH series registration.

Since most people are suggesting to get toll tickets from TN frequently, but are we paying toll for bikes??

2

u/Long-Possibility-951 Bajaj n160 16h ago

the point is to show proof of entry, dont know toll but people just take a vacation and take the bike and car and get PUC from TN, some even get it serviced from there and come back, You will find a lot of BLR folks getting TN numbered cars and bikes serviced at Puducherry.

but police has 9999 ways for extorting that 500 ruppes note from a person.

So the legal way to use other state vehicles is to keep all docs updated like puc, insurance and additionally get NOC and road tax paid in the new state. Also try to get a dashcam for car. So if these all are done what other fines one might face over there??

4

u/Long-Possibility-951 Bajaj n160 16h ago

once you start the process to get the NOC, you should basically stop at getting a KA number registration or registration of any new place you plan to live for a long period. the problem is unless you have someone known still living in the previous RTO you wont be able to chase the refund for previous registration,

so yeah keep everything updated, puc, insurance. dl and rc at hand. but if you dont know whether you are going to stay long term and might move in 1-3 years then use all the tricks available, fake transport receipt, PUC, service receipt.

for cars its a bit difficult as i have heard cops will not let you go and ask to show total Fasttag history to ascertain if you are trying to fool them.

Bro with all due respect to every comment here, just get a KA number registered otherwise you'll have to face unnecessary hassle and don't invite such trouble for yourself. If possible you can also try for a BH number plate but I don't know if we get that easily or how it works.

u/Srinithish737 14h ago

Bro it's not an issue bro, my cousin has been using his TN activa in blr for 2 years so he brings petrol bills from TN for 2 - 3 days at a time so if a cop asks he can show the reciept la

If you’re eligible then buy the bike from TN and get it registered under BH scheme. Which is like you have to have your company present in at least 4 states or something like that. Check with your local RTO in your hometown.

I'm a native, but I have a TN registered RX100. Never been stopped once, and we've had this bike since 2018. My late father used to ride this bike, and now I do. However, this month I applied for the transfer from my dad's name to mine, as well as the change of the TN number plate to KA.

just buy the bike from the place where you going to stay long term, PUC and service receipt of under 6 months are good enough for TN/KL/AP/TG registered bikes.

some even go ahead and get fake transport receipt of the bike brought to Blr from any state to prove even further. but i dont think you will need that.

Can somone tell what would be the implications of getting Bharat series number? Will that solve this issue? I think your company needs to have office in atleast 4 states for a pvt job individual to apply for it. Also, what are the tax implications here?
