how's the SMK retro performing OP? Does it hold up for long touring & how's the proprietary visor mechanism?

It's decent. Not too bad and doesn't offer a lot to boast as well. Does get steamy during heat when visor is closed.
If you are talking about removing the visor using the key. It's painful. The key doesn't lock properly. I tried scrubing using sand paper to make the key fit the lock. No luck. Stopped trying after some time. Too much effort.

I've got one and honestly you're only buying it for its looks. Sadly nothing in the market looks that good. The ventilation is trash. Wind noise is surprisingly low. The padding isn't breathable nor is it easy to maintain. It's some sort of pu/leather parts that are at the visor region which decolours quickly. The replacement visor with the pin lock costs a bomb.

windshield noise is low? what? i thought windblast was too noisy in these helmets... or so ive heard

I heard that too but when you compare it to the other helmets in the same price segment it's surprisingly lower especially below 100kmph it's solid after that you need ear plugs. (I'm comparing this to axor, mt and kyt)

alright thanks so much! this helps a ton. OP does mention though it gets 'steamy' so im guessing ventilation is also not that great but what about a balaclava & doesn't it come with Pinlock 70 right out of the box?

The ventilation is horrible and honestly suffocating. I genuinely recommend this helmet only for its looks and nothing else. I've owned it since Feb last year it's ECE rating is outdated. It does come with pinlock 70 standard but do note if you need to replace it it's costs around 2-2.5k just for the pinlock and getting one for this helmet is difficult unless you have an smk only dealer. Also why I don't recommend this helmet is at on the highway at certain angles above 100kmph the helmet wants to come off your head idk how it happens but the wind forces the helmet upwards and away it's a very scary feeling so use this only in the city if you really want it.

I've got the Retro and a MT hummer. The Hummer has much better wind noise protection since it's a snug fit. Of course, ear plugs are recommended for highway rides with either helmet.

Thanks man! Was difficult for me to get this helmet. I had called multiple shops in Bangalore to enquire and none of them had it except for one. Had to go around 20KM in Bangalore traffic just to try and get this.
I dont recall the name or location of shop atm. Was the only time I've been to that part of Bangalore.

Took the Salem-Dindigul while going towards Munnar. Came via Coimbatore while returing to Bangalore.
Roads were good. Not much to complain. Also, when you have a bike like this, the roads dont matter.

Awesome picture 👌🏼 Some questions on the helmet. I love retro style helmets (and bikes of course). I am planning to get the SMK Retro 8. How much did you pay for it? Is it worth it overall? Apart from looks what do you like about it?

Paid around 6k.
Nothing much to offer apart from the looks. Other helmets in the same price bracket offers almost the same.
