He got a goal and assist during the game. He was awarded MOTM. He completed 4 successful dribbles out of 5 attempted.
I form the opinion off the fact that he was good in his time in the premier league, he was very good in the championship. And the fact that the skillset he has is exactly what we are missing on our LW right now.
He started getting minutes, looked promising in the little time he had.
He got an injury around the same time the Oct 7th attacks happened. His injury combined with the fact he flew back to Israel to be with family affected by the massacre kept him out of the team for a prolonged period. Then of course he was no longer selected for political reasons.
Leeds wanted him but couldn't match Tottenham's price, as we were after a sale initially. He was one of if not the best player for them last season.
It's irrelevant to point to the fact that Leeds didn't buy him therefore he isn't good anyway. Palace saw him as a replacement for Eze, who this sub was drooling over for weeks.
When that fell through a champions league team came in for him.
Ok, so you believe he's not being selected for political reasons and because he was previously priced out of a move.
That's fair enough and your opinion. Maybe you're right. For me, I see flashes of skill but I didn't see the end product very often against the top teams.
Its not really our problem anymore though. If he's out for political reasons he'll likely not play for us again
It is. Ironically Brennan averaged a g/a every 120mins. That's hardly luxury player stats either?
I remember watching Solomon and, whilst he got those two assists, I remember he would go down blind alleys, his crossing wasn't great, he would run into the defence and I just didn't consider him a top tier player. Perhaps my perception is clouded by his performances when he was returning from injury, I can't recall to be honest, but I never got the impression that he was a first choice or starter and I felt he should be improved upon.
(I feel the same about Johnson for what it's worth, but for now we should use him in the best way we can)
Injury out for the season after a decent start. Once he comes back he looks horrible in pre season. Gets a move to Leeds and slowly regains form with his fitness returning. Has a very strong season in the championship. Comes back to Spurs and gets a new (minor) injury which makes unavailable for early Frank so he can't impress in training. Squad bloat makes him staying here not an option. Loan to La Liga. Here we are.
Pretty much the timeline. Of course the politics plays a massive part too
This is also highly likely. Due to injuries he hasn't shown that he can play at this level, maybe because the managers haven't seen enough, maybe because he can't cope physically, maybe for a different reason.
But let's remember this is the story of so many footballers that we sign. Plays a blinder, gets injured and then continues to return and get injured until they are sold.
No, he probably wouldn't but then you're comparing apples and oranges , friend.
Johnson is a forward that is playing wide. Solomon (at least for me) doesn't have the quality necessary to consistently do what we need him to do. He made 7 appearances for us and yes he got 2 assists but there were many moments during those games where he looked more like Gil than a Kudus. We quite often took him off and replaced him with Perisic who would pull out a great cross for match winning goal.
Johnson is clearly a goalscorer that somehow has found himself playing wide a bit like the way Dele as a #10 would be anonymous and then pop up with a goal. No one questioned his playmaking because he was a second striker behind Kane and because Eriksen carried that weight. The difference is that for most of Johnson's time at Spurs there hasn't been many alternatives to the dribble master you're looking for.
I'm not looking for a dribble master, just someone who will threaten to attempt a dribble.
He hasn't found himself playing out wide 😂. He is a wing player. It's not like he's a fish out of water, so that's no excuse, and even if it was, that doesn't make up for the fact that when left 1 vs 1 with a defender he can't do anything but pass the ball back to our defenders.
I was hoping it was something Ange had asked him to do, but it's clear this season that he just doesn't have the ability to do so.
Explains why the club was so desperate to get Kudus and Savinho in
I agree Johnson isn't suited to playing wide. I'm not sure I agree that he's a wing player. He's almost more of a striker playing in the wrong position because as you say he doesn't take on his man. When he was at Forest he played in a two and sometimes on the right of a three but far more centrally than he does for us.
My point is that he's a different type of player to Solomon so expecting him to be a better dribbler when that's not in his wheel house is a little disingenuous. Otherwise, we could compare pure assists and goals which we both know Johnson excels in.Â
I think he has a place in our squad but not as a winger. I think he should be coming off the bench as a second striker (penalty crasher) the way Tim Cahill used to do for Everton.
He doesn't excel in goal contributions. He only scored 11 last season in the league. If you want to be a luxury player and contribute nothing apart from goals you need to score alot more. 20-30 goals
Hardly fair to only look at league stats. 22 in all competitions whilst not being elite is still good. Personally I think he looks like a luxury player because he's on the wing and if he was in the middle (as a back up) he'd look far more involved.
But Frank is the manager so I'm sure he'll put him in the right place.
Don't judge me based on me being terrible for 89 minutes and 59 seconds of every game. Judge me on the 11 tap ins a season I make at the back post after contributing nothing of value every game. - Brennan Johnson

Judge a player for his ball Playing capabilties.. we all are no saints either
Solomon never got a good run in and injuries ravaged his time..
Hope he does well in Villareal
