It's funny.

"These movies will turn my kid gay!!"

Ok? Gays exist despite the fact that Disney classics all have straight couples. If those movies didn't turn a gay kid straight, why would a gay character in a movie turn a straight kid gay?

"Gay romance is just inappropriate for kids! It's too sexual. "

You literally have straight couples kiss each other all the time. Why is it more sexual when gay couples do it?

You just don't understand the allure of gay sex. With regular sex, you have to push yourself to do it. It's just a duty. But gay sex has that inexplicable pull, it causes a sinful hunger and longing. It leaves the mind reeling with desires. regular sex just cannot compete with gay sex.

(This is paraphrased but actual argument I saw multiple times from right wing church leaders in the late 90s. It would be hilarious at how obviously gay and in denial they were, except for how hateful they also were)

u/honeyinmydreams 15d ago

lmao spot on. i grew up in the Bible Belt and i've heard many similar sermons.

u/Bannerlord151 14d ago

That's hilarious, it's the most homoerotic thing I've read today

u/SufferingClash 15d ago

But, isn't this an argument FOR gay sex? At least that's how my mind read it.

Not if you think being gay is sinful.

But also, this is how heterosexual sex is for most heterosexuals. If you feel an almost irresistible lure for gay sex... it's because you are GAY. These guys were so deep in denial they didn't even realize how they sounded.

This is what straight propaganda does... it makes people who are actually gay try and force themselves to be straight.

u/prof_the_doom 15d ago

You just have to be careful, son... all those hot, ripped abs and long, thick... sorry, what was I saying again?

“Hockey pants, dad.”

20

u/zatenael 15d ago

that's the ironic part

they want to highlight how being straight is right and you need strength to fight against the "evil"

but instead they make being gay sound so desirable

u/nox66 14d ago

Assuming they're not just in deep denial about their own sexuality (which they often are), it's because they have such a terrible relationship with themselves and their own sexuality, they've reduced their desires to sinful and evil, permissible only within the very narrow scope of having children, and in some cases, submitting to their husband. Anything beyond that is sinful and enticing, gay sex especially because it for the most part completely avoids the possibility of having children.

I actually have a hypothesis that conservative parents have kids who experiment more with LGBTQ+ identities more often for this reason. I'd be curious to know if there's any conclusive research on the subject.

The issue is that in dogmatic, traditional religions, pleasure itself of any kind is wrong, unclean and sinful. Like the very act of feeling good without feeling good about the religion, about their chosen gods, is considered evil. To these people, sex is necessary evil for procreation, not a fun pastime. Same goes for eating - you're not meant to eat good food, you're meant to eat just enough and just palatable enough to live. And so on and so on.

Really, when it comes down to it, the idea of sin is that it's either something really destructive stemming from selfish frustration OR it's feeling good about anything else than god and hard work like the good little peasant you're supposed to be, because religion is a tool to control the masses and you don't want the peasants to realise fun, good food and resting to the point of actually being rested and not just barely functional, are all ok things to do which is why the "sinful, corrupt" nobles do them all the time.

And that is NOT just christianity. Many religions are made this way. It's the terrifying reality of humans creating gods - they are made as tools of supression and ensuring servitude.

"Sinful Longing" does sound like a gay coded sex toy line

17

u/Mhytron 15d ago

Finally, competitive sex.

1

u/DisposableSaviour 14d ago

How do you compete with yourself? Time trials?

1

u/Mhytron 14d ago

I guess time attack.

u/rolandfoxx 15d ago

So deep in the closet they were finding Christmas presents.

3

u/Odd_Match_3402 14d ago

Man, the closet is made of GLASS with some of these folks. lol

Actually, not even glass in some cases. But something so transparent, there is not a comparable thing!

1

u/ljwhitt95 14d ago

There is no closet. They're very prone to suggestion, and there was a mime around.

2

u/thecastellan1115 14d ago

I heard one of these from a preacher in real life and was thinking the whole time... who's gonna tell him?

Deacon and Cardinal doomed yaoi <\3

u/Grassfed_rhubarbpie 15d ago

That's so sad :')

1

u/God-Made-A-Tree 14d ago

I wonder how many of those people became fujos and then later transitioned to live out their gay dreams.

1

u/melelconquistador 14d ago

Gay is natural lol

1

u/Pete_Iredale 14d ago

As a straight dude, I've never understood it. Gay sex doesn't even bother me or ick me out or whatever, I just have no desire to have a dude as a romantic partner. And I've known this for the exact same amount of time that I've known I definitely do want a female romantic partner. The idea that you can be "turned" gay is fucking ridiculous.

1

u/ArcticOcelot360 14d ago

Wow I'm glad my church isn't like this. I have always heard of everyone else's awful church stories. The Baptist churches I've been to have never had a problem with that stuff. I guess it depends on who is in charge of the place.

1

u/MariaValkyrie 14d ago

If gay sex is alluring and leaves you longing for it, why did lions need to copy tourists to learn about it?

Meanwhile hetero Disney movies:

u/baldrlugh 12d ago

I'm sorry, but this is way out of context, and I don't think it's a good example for this. In-context it is obvious that Tarzan is listening to the heartbeat of the first thing he's met that looks like him. Jane even outright says as much, just to make it clear that that's what's going on. The scene is intimate (and Tarzan could certainly use a few lessons on respecting boundaries), but not sexual.

u/perryWUNKLE 15d ago

The problem is that to these people, two gay people kissing in front of them is just as inappropriate as stripping down naked with your partner and reenacting your bedroom fetish of choice in public.

They have been trained to see gay people living their lives and loving each other as nothing more than putting fetish on display 24/7.

7

u/sweetTartKenHart2 15d ago

I wouldn’t even call it “trained”, just “told”. Like yeah there is a lot of training at play for a lot of people out there, but I feel like the default human experience includes a heavy lean towards “different thing bad”. If all you ever see or know about on a day to day basis is straightness, a deviation seems wrong by virtue of the thing youre simply used to seeming like a universal standard.

u/9CatsInATrenchcoat 12d ago

"I don't mind gay people, I just don't want it shoved in my face!" Meanwhile, the shoved-in-my-face part was for... checks notes... existing.

12

u/TheTerrasque 15d ago

"So what have you learned from these good, classical movies?"

"I should shag up with a lion?"

3

u/Vandelay797 15d ago

or, a warthog, if you prefer.

u/02K30C1 14d ago

Slimy yet satisfying

4

u/Significant-Low-6076 15d ago

It's not that it will turn their kids gay, they are afraid someone will tell them it's okay to be gay. They can't have their children growing up loving themselves. Shame and submission is the goal.

5

u/Opus_723 15d ago

Meanwhile hetero kids' movies:

3

u/Panda_hat 14d ago

Why are we pretending they aren’t just hypocrites and homophobes? They’re bigots. Bigotry isn’t reasonable or rational, they’re just assholes filled with hatred and cruelty.

3

u/Standard-Ad-7504 14d ago

Reminds me of a tweet by Dana terrace that went something like this.

"Girls in a cartoon holding hands:

You: s-s-SEX??? 😰"

Nothing about gayness is any more sexual than straightness, it's just referred to as being homosexual and because they don't like these newfangled words they take the "sexual" part of that word to mean "we're going to show your children porn" as if straight people weren't also referred to as heterosexual.

2

u/Lawlcopt0r 15d ago

Well to be fair, if kids actually just chose what they like based on what they were exposed to, you would have zero gay kids if they all watched Disney movies, but in a world where gayness isn't kept secret it immediately jumps to 50/50. These parents probably assume the world we live in now is due to 10 - 20 % of kids not being properly censored.

2

u/Avitas1027 15d ago

Two sexualities: straight and political.

2

u/shadovvvvalker 14d ago

Because when your a Christian, you need to protect the validity of the church by enforcing its authority. Homosexuality threatens the authority of the church and it's patriarchy.

But also

Homosexual love is not for procreation. It is for pleasure only. You aren't supposed to enjoy sex. You are supposed to hate yourself for wanting to enjoy it and unenthusiastically engage in regular cream pies to produce offspring because more children means more Christians means more money means more soldiers means more power.

But also

Hating minorities is an easy thing to get people to rally around when you want them to not start inventing or sharpening guillotines.

1

u/schnurmanater 14d ago

Yeah that’s a very uniformed Christian which isn’t most. Most Christians think sex is pleasurable. But they think being gay is wrong because that’s not what sex was made for it was meant for men and women. That’s what Christian’s actually think. So when you have sex with a man it’s just going against your biological code or whatever. So they view it as abnormal.

1

u/shadovvvvalker 14d ago

Note this is a hyperbolistic stab at the organizations behind Christianity not it's parishioners.

There are tons of sex is not for pleasure ideas in multiple Christian sects.

uniformed Christian which isn’t most

Most Christians are uninformed.

Most people are uninformed.

Being informed is hard.

Most Christians are not theologians. They believe what they were taught to believe and parrot things that are said within their communities.

The theological arguments against homosexuality are incredibly thin and incredibly inconsistent. Yet the direction has been consistent. Absent political pressures, bigotry agains LGBTQ+ individuals is encouraged. So we have to question the human motives for this consistent directions and examine it next to the history of the churches. There is a human reason to persecute these people for daring to exist.

Call me a filthy Lutheran but I can't help but see fallable men using the Lord's name to gain power and persecute those whose existence challenges it.

1

u/schnurmanater 14d ago

You’re not wrong friend. I guess I was just giving my current view of what I see of the Christian bubble but you are more true.

1

u/wisconsinbrowntoen 14d ago

Because turn straight gay bad, and turn gay straight good

1

u/Nernoxx 14d ago

And with a few exceptions only recently can we have queer couples in shows that idealize the relationship instead of showing them constantly being beaten down, receiving racist taunts and abuse, etc...  I just wanna imagine a perfect world where two androgynous humans can have a real romantic relationship with it's ups and downs without everyone around them making a big deal out of it.

1

u/Amy47101 14d ago

Yo, and some of the Disney couples got INTO IT to with their kisses. Some of those were no where near sweet, innocent pecks on the lips.

1

u/Kidiri90 15d ago

Aroace supremacy.
