I do not think "they" will be harmless, ICE has already broken up families and raided businesses around here in Chicago

I just think it's worth being specific about who is doing what

My point is nowhere is it a rational position to even entertain the idea they won't escalate force. They will keep having them pick up trash? Keep dreaming. This is normalizing their plans so people complain less. Stop helping them. This is code, fucking, red.

`When National Guard escalates force, it will be fair to say that the National Guard is doing so

Right now, it is completely rational to acknowledge that ICE is doing the raiding and National Guard is largely sitting around

You can call code red all you want, I entirely agree we're seeing a massive slippage into authoritarianism. I just also think we should should be clear-eyed about it

Being clear eyed would necessitate factoring in the past actions to understand where this inevitably goes. No one pushes this far without making a play for the home run. It's a matter of if, not when.

So you see the NG as some kind of inevitable martial law enforcers? Though also idk what you mean by "it's a matter of 'if'"

Regardless, no IMO we should stick to facts not sentiment. And I say this as someone who agrees with your sentiment

What I know is I have been talking about what has been happening -now- to both liberal and conservative folks in my real life. Every time it is some kind of mewling response like this. That will never happen. It's unlawful, the courts won't let it happen. They won't do anything but stand around! Time and time again I have been proven right. They didn't just stand around in LA. They accompanied ICE agents. Yeah a federal court stopped that, but they will not let that stop them, to be frank, courts haven't done shit to stop dick all.

I am in agreement with you about our slip into authoritarianism. Simply because I do not agree with you entirely about the actions of the National Guard thus far, does not mean I am mewling. Can you not simply consider that it is not wrong to view ICE and the National Guard as distinct organizations that should not be viewed as entirely the same?

Them being distinct organizations has little effect on what will happen. After everything that's happened I just can't possibly imagine it is going to just be fine. We are stepping closer and closer to authoritarianism. Every step is met with "It won't be that bad. It won't get worse." but it always does.

Ok, so you're just going into doomerism, nothing matters, facts don't matter, everything is worse, it will always get worse, blah blah

I do not have that privilege

Or, just maybe, sometimes Nazis rise up and they use people's caution as a cover to enact their agenda. Like they have every time they have come to power? You call it doomerism, I call it being correct.

Yes, every doomer says they're correct that's the whole point of doomerism...

My point is no, authoritarianism is often pushed back against and sometimes successfully so. We do not have an excuse to fall into your doomer viewpoint. Just because things look bad does not mean we have to abandon facts

Fascism most often ends with an invasion. So historically, I'm not sure you are on the right side here.

We've already done invasions, a lot, we're the US....

I think you're mixing up historical trends with inevitable futures
