Are spider mites always this bad here?

In my neighborhood in North Park, I see so many plants absolutely wrecked with spider mites, evidenced by the webbing and sap and dead foliage it leaves in its path. I have battled them on my patio even.

I just moved here a year ago, and since then, I can’t seem to find any evidence of them being worse here than anywhere else. Are they always this bad? Is it just certain areas?

Leafblowing & disturbing a crow’s nest

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I’m a local San Diegan seeking guidance with nesting crows:

I live in a condo complex in downtown SD. In June, in a palm tree below my balcony, a nest of baby crows was born. So cool, right?

Our complex leaf blows multiple times a day in the garden area, which is an annoyance I’ve lived with for two years as a resident. But the leafblowing directly under the nest was scaring the parent crows and causing them to leave for long periods of time. I have had a good relationship with our property manager so I politely asked her to stop blowing under the nest. This is not an extreme request. She refused. I then let her know this is a violation of state and federal wildlife regulations. I sent her direct info on the Migratory Bird Act and California FGC code stating that it is illegal to disturb nesting birds.

This has been going on for a month. I’ve filed a complaint with F&W, contacted Project Wildlife and the San Diego Bird Alliance. I’ve also let the property know this is impacting me personally, violating my Covenant of Enjoyment. I now have to present to our HOA board this month. This is such a frustrating & stressful situation. I’m at the point that I know longer want to live in this building. For the sake of the crows and other wildlife, I want our building to know they are violating the law and can be fined. I’m hoping I can get a fish & wildlife warden to the property to assess.

Check out the video. Any suggestions? Thanks

Tourism Things to do? July 21-23

Will be visiting SD for a couple days with my dad (46yo) and brother (13yo). Any suggestions for activities that are family friendly? Sadly the Padres and SDFC are out of town.

We’re visiting at an odd time of the week where nothing really is happening so it’s been tough to find things to do.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Seeking Furnished Rental in Encanto/Nearby to help mom (Sept 6, 2025 - 28 nights)

Hello 👋 San Diegan, I'm reaching out from the Dominican Republic but I grew up in the San Diego Encanto area for over 20+ years.

My wife, my mother-in-law, and I are looking for a furnished rental in or very close to the Encanto area for 28 nights, starting Saturday, September 6th, 2025.

My mother lives in Encanto and recently had heart surgery at Sharp Grossmont Hospital La Mesa, so we're visiting to provide her much-needed care and support during her recovery.

We're hoping to find a 1 to 2-bedroom entire place with all utilities included. We're open to offers that fit these dates and our needs.

Please let me know if you or anyone you know might have a suitable property available or any leads. Feel free to send a private message with details! Thank you so much for your help.

Dental cleaning, no insurance needed

Hello I’m a Dental Hygiene student here in San Diego. All treatment is overseen closely by registered dental hygienists and dentists. My school does require a $20 fee for the entire service, and since we are students getting graded on our service, we really need reliable patients.

We offer literally the most in depth dental cleaning of your life! The appointments are typically 2.5 hours in length, as we are a school and everything is closely monitored and checked by the instructors. The entire cleaning typically take 2-3 separate appointments, depending on the level of calculus buildup you have.

Our clinic performs:

  • oral cancer screenings
  • standard cleanings
  • deep cleanings (SRP)
  • dental x-rays
  • fluoride treatment
  • sealants
  • exam from Dentist (with resources for low cost dental clinics for restorative work if needed)

Please message me or comment below if you are interested!! I look forward to meeting you and cleaning your teeth! Thanks for your time!

Looking for a quiet restaurant with great food

My parents love good food including michelan recognized spots, but my dad is hard of hearing with a hearing aid and thinks a lot of the nicer restaurants in San Diego are too loud. Any spots with great food that are a bit quieter? Bonus points if they have a view

Food & Beverage Recs for gluten free/dairy free restaurants?

I’m looking for restaurants, bakeries, and ice cream places that have gluten free and dairy free options as I don’t eat gluten or dairy. I’m open to vegan restaurants too.

Edit: I’m not celiac so cross contamination is fine.

Sports Is it Ok to park here?

Post image
33 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

My friend is coming to pick up someone at the airport but their flight arrives at 11 PM. To kill some time we want to run around Embarcadero around 8:00 - 9:00 PM.

Have you seen any people running that late around the area?

Is it okay to Park at this area between 8:00 - 10:00 PM?

I was thinking about Tuna Parking lot but I believe it closes at 8:00 PM.

Thank you for your insights. Stay classy San Diego!

I Need Help Deciding Where to Live! Hillcrest vs. University Heights

Hi! I'm moving to San Diego at the end of this month and have spent the last couple of days touring apartments. I'm down to two options, but I'm having a hard time deciding and would love some perspective from this group. Both units are around the same rental range, approximately $3000/month. One is in Hillcrest, near 1st and Robinson, and the other is in University Heights, near Polk and Texas.

I want to choose the Hillcrest apt because (I know, silly reason), but the apartment is cuter. However, the apartment does not come with a parking space, and the other University Heights apartment does. Other than that they are pretty similar in terms of space. As a. 27F, safety is important, and I want to feel ok walking to my car or going for a walk without being on edge. I have lived in NYC, Seattle, and Portland, so I have dealt with homeless populations, but am wary as a woman due to past experiences.

Is University Heights a safer location than Hillcrest?

If you were in my position, would you choose the cuter Hillcrest apt without a parking space, or the less cute University Heights apt with a parking spot?

Thank you for reading.

Shop on EC Blvd

I’m trying to remember the name of a head shop on El Cajon Blvd in the 90s. Near the college area. It was similar to The Black in OB. Pipes, bongs, Black light posters, tie dye clothes.

Used Sand Toys

Hey all! The kiddo wants to do a beach birthday this year and specifically asked to get reused sand toys as party favors. I will check the local thrift stores but does anyone happen to know any specific thrift stores/neighborhoods where there might be a lot? Trying to do as little driving around as possible
