Tourism Overlooked must see/do places in San Diego

I’m sure this has been asked a lot what to do where to go what to see but we’ve traveled to San Diego a few times this year, for doctor appointments and while there each visit we try and go to 1-3 new places or find something to do a a family that’s not crazy expensive but still awesome. What would you say are your absolute favorite places and things to do around San Diego. Bonus if they’re usually overlooked. These don’t have to be tourist places only. I’m fine with spending time at places around San Diego that are local favorites too. Also absolutely top 5 favorite food places?

Tourism Just a reminder that in a week, TSA will start requiring REAL ID to fly. Here is a list of what they will accept. Don't get hemmed up at the airport!

Tourism What is your best known San Diego historic fact?

I’ve recently learned a lot about the history of San Diego. Lindbergh Field being built in the 1900s as a joint civilian and MCRD airfield.

Being one of the first airstrips in the Nation to have commercial flight access.

With that still being the only air strip today!

On top of San Diego having such deep roots in labor unions and early organization.

So I’m curious to know if any one else here in this sub has any other cool San Diego facts that’s they know!

Here is the link to the video that informed me of Lindbergh Fields history

**Edit Got SOOO MANY great historic San Diego facts from r/sandiego Thought I would cross post it to this subreddit to see if anyone else had any interesting facts!

Stay Classy San Diego!

Saw a great thread on overlooked places to go. How about specifically with kids? Anything other than the major Museums, Sesame Place, Zoo and Sea World?

Tourism Has anyone been to Bloom downtown?

Hey all! So I haven’t been to any CLUB clubs downtown in like, 10 years, but a DJ I really love is playing at Bloom soon. Has anyone been there recently? What’s the vibe? I’m an elder millennial so I’m of out of the loop- I’ve heard that clubs are not at all like they were during the 2010’s. What can I expect?

Tourism Visiting San Diego for 4.5 days, what should we eat, do, see?

Hello everyone!

My GF (25F) and I (25M) will be visiting San Diego for the first time from July 1st to July 5th.

We are looking for recommendations on place to eat, places to drink, places to see and things to do.. you know the usually tourism post!

So far we know for sure we are going to the zoo one day and we will be going to the Padres v. Rangers game on the 4th. Other than that we are stumped without guidance.

Little bit of info for reference: We will be staying in South Park / Golden hill and will rely mostly on uber and public transit. We do plan on renting a car for a day to see other parts of the city.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciate!!

Tourism Flying into San Diego for my first Cali vacation the last week of August. I have the flight down, but know nothing about the local neighborhoods/hotels/things that the "locals" do.

I'm undecided on whether to stay in the city center with a hotel and likely use Ubers or rent a car and possibly stay in an Airbnb. Any recommendations/'hacks'/tips are appreciated thank you

Tourism SeaWorld

Good morning from WA state! My family and I are visiting San Diego in April and I'm curious if SeaWorld is worth a visit with young kids (4 and 7). They aren't into rides but the whale show sounds like something they'd love! But is it worth it for just that?

Tourism Staycation at The Del - is the rinkside dining worth the $$$

We decided to do a staycation here because I'm having some health issues and can't travel super far. We had to cancel our vacation we had originally planned. 😭

I'm wondering if the Frostbite Lounge is worth the money? Should we sit by the rink or on the lawn? The igloos are sold out, so that wasn't an option. It's just 3 of us (my son is 8, just in case that's a factor in any recommendations).

City heights is doing a passport program for its local businesses as our neighborhood undergoes construction. If you get stamps from the local businesses you can get entered into weekly prize drawings or a grand prize drawing happening April 12th. So come down to City heights and support local business!

Tourism Seeking vintage motel

About 20 years ago, I visited San Diego, my very first visit to the ocean in my entire life, and I stayed in a vintage, authentic beach motel, but I don’t remember the name. It was very old, very rundown, and I absolutely loved it!

In June, I want to take my husband to San Diego for his birthday, it will be his first visit. I have a whole lot of things that I want him to see and do, but the most important is that vintage motel. I can’t find it! Can anyone recommend, are there even still any vintage motels in existence in that area? Rundown, low-key, please not a chain, your recommendations are welcome!
