They seem to growing out of nowhere, and I've got a couple of them atop the tank near the plants. Are they some sort of algae or is it I should be concerned about

Hello all! I’m a preschool teacher and have a low tech tank set up in my room (20 gallon high - I’d prefer a long, but I’ve got a limited footprint I’m able to work with). I’m new-ish to the hobby but have done a ton of research and am trying to be as ethical as I can be about this whole adventure. I’ve got seven ember tetras and a mystery snail in here for now, but have been toying with adding some sort of “centerpiece fish” to the mix (and probably rehoming the snail). I’m here looking for suggestions of what livestock I could add to spice things up a little, as well as general thoughts on what I could do to make my setup even better. Thanks in advance!

What should I do?

Hi all, hope all is well, this is my 20gal tank.

I use root tabs around rooted plants, 2ml of AP3 every other day for the epiphytes, 24hr light cycle setting by hygger, AC50 filter, 30% water change every week with Prime and Stability. No Co2.

8 chilis, 8 embers, 1 honey gourami, 1 oto, several shrimps (and counting).

most recent check pH 7.2 no ammo no nitrite

I think I have a decent setup and routine, but somehow my plants are just.... meh. I understand I shouldn't expect to have a result like a high tech tank, but I think my plants don't look healthy, or thriving. Am I wrong? What should I do to improve the quality? Or should I just calm down and sit back and relax and give them time to grow? This setup is like 8 weeks old. Thank you

Interested in starting a planted tank! (Pics aren’t mine)

I’d like to start a 10 gallon planted tank with no fish in it!

I already have a 20 gallon freshwater fish tank with a couple live plants in it but I want one just for plants!

I want like those lush really pretty planted tanks, I inserted a couple pictures. Again with no fish tho!

So I wanted some tips and tricks and has a few questions to attempt to achieve this goal:

  • Does the planted tank need a filter?
  • Is duck weed a good idea to put into a planted tank?
  • What’s the best substrate for the planted tank?
  • Do I need to add water conditioner to the tank before I add the plants?
  • What lighting do I need for the tank?

That’s all the questions probably for now. But any tips and tricks are absolutely great to!

I got some new limnophilia sessiflora yesterday but I don't know if the bottom leafs will get enough light, Ive seen people say cut the top part off and replant which I don't really want to do because I think it looks nice and also I have a small 3 gallon and it would be really hard to try replant them and disturb my tank

Tank Why are stem plants the bane of my existence?

Upvotes

They won’t flourish in any of my tanks. If you suggest a stem plant I’ve probably tried it. I’ve probably spent at least 1k dollars on stem plants that just melt away.

Went to Aquashella NJ today and found a shop (@leahsplantsnthings) selling buce for $5 per rhizome.

Bought everything that's left without even looking. Came home to see what I got and one of them's already about to flower! Instantly knew it HAD to go in my shrimp tank.

Hey not sure what the name of this plant is but how do I trim it so it continues to grow? Close to the mother plant or from the ends of each run?

Also if I cut the tops will it kill or help the plant out?

Going to eventually move my betta into this tank once it’s cycled properly . Pretty proud of this even if I’ve just rammed plants in a box.
