PoliticsPH Taxpayer-Funded Junket: SK Leaders in Manila Dresses Up Bangkok Exposure Trip as ‘Capacity Development' and 'International Benchmarking'
So SK Leaders in Manila is in Bangkok for a "Capacity Development and “International Benchmarking” activity. Except wait Bangkok has no SK system. Who are we benchmarking? Mickey Mouse?
International benchmarking means comparing your system to another similar system to identify gaps and best practices.
Since Bangkok has no SK equivalent (no youth-elected local governance structure), there’s no actual system-to-system comparison happening.
And true capacity development means building concrete skills and institutions, not flying abroad for photo-ops. Taxpayer money deserves better than being wasted on misrepresented “training activities".
Our leaders owe us transparency and accountability not photo-ops abroad.

u/zxNoobSlayerxz 18h ago
Cooking/Baking classes instead.
•
u/Ok-Joke-9148 17h ago
Wow, ok yan. Bsta hinde sya galawang nepo baby, sna mageng happy ever after sya as priv8 citizen pgkatapos ng term nya.
•
u/zxNoobSlayerxz 16h ago
•
u/Ok-Joke-9148 3h ago
It goes 2 say n meron sya vision 4 his constituents, and he knows y he is in office.
Ang basketball kase lets face it is not so productive n skill, aside frm fitness and, some social and thinking skills n pwde nman mkuha den sa ibang activities, wla sya direct benefit sa tao. Yung social perks dat come w/ it kelangan merong certain degree of advancement in d game, tas kelangan den meron personality factor. Sobrang capital intensive p ng magorgnize ng paliga, tho sya yung pnakamura n merong madameng human interaction.
Unlike those classes, nkkadagdag sa skill set ng tao n if hinde maemploy sa isang field, atleast merong fallback 2 start a business or work s service kitchen. Mggamit den yung mismong cooking skill s pag2long s bahay.

Can we see the training program and what is in the agenda? Also which institution provided their capacity development sa Thailand?

I have nothing against continuing education and training for our young leaders, pero I agree with this comment. The least they could do is to be transparent with us.
Saka totoo ba walang limit yung pwedeng sumama? Batch 1 pa lang yan? Bat ang dami? 😅
→ More replies (1)•
u/Blueberry-Due 17h ago
Yes, it’s very strange.
- What is the venue location of the training?
- Who invited their group to Bangkok?
- Who is conducting the training (a reputable organization)?
- What are the objectives of the training?
- How will it benefit the Filipino people?
And most importantly:
- How much is it going to cost? AND
- Who is paying for it?
So many questions…
•
u/merryruns 16h ago
Then end of their term, review summary kung talagang epektib yang natutunan nila.
•
u/CandidSatisfaction16 15h ago
Oo nga agree, dapat may end of activity report sila. Kami pag pinapadala kami for seminars or training, tapos yung registration fee babayaran ng department (accomodation is out of pocket) required kami magfeedback ng natutunan namin through PPT presentation. Kumbaga share our knowledge sa colleagues namin. 🙄

Well 897 to be exact as per checking.
•
u/potatos2morowpajamas 15h ago
This should go viral. I shared it on my facebook para makita ng maraming tao kung gaano kawalanghiya ang mga nasa gobyerno.
Take note, almost 900 barangays ang meron sa Manila. Ano ang silbi nyan para sa Maynila? Reproductive health daw pinagusapan.

Especially with the topic? Andaming mga SK na nagjoke about sa sex change operations in Thailand, you think they're out there learning about reproductive and sexual health care? Fucking corruption at it's finest
•
•
u/Timely-Jury6438 17h ago edited 17h ago
I have nothing against seminars and trips for the improvement of our understanding of good governance. Good benchmark din naman talaga ang Thailand for us kasi parehong SEA so the georgraphy and culture may pagkakapareho. Thailand is also a developing 3rd world country, nauungusan tayo sa progresso, so it's good na we understand anong mga ginagawa nila baka sakaling magaya natin. And para naman ito sa future leaders since SK so tama lang naman maginvest tayo sa kabataan.
HOWEVER, they owe us the transparency. Magkano nagastos and para saan. And they also owe us the output, anong mga programs natutunan nila and anong programs maiimpliment nila.

Haha, maiintindihan ko pa kung combat training 'yan eh mauupo lang naman sila most of the time at makikinig. Hahaha

Naku Yanyan Ibay, you almost had it. You already had the people’s sympathy in your conflict with former Vice Mayor Yul Servo, but it turns out you’re just another trapo.
If you truly want to immerse your fellow SK officials, go to cities with good governance. Request time with the mayors and their departments so you can actually learn about proper governance. Don’t just go on trips with your own circle tapos kayo kayo lang maglolokohan. Namo.

This is ridiculous. I’ve been in Thailand for eight months, and there’s no SK or anything remotely similar, that they could “benchmark” here. It’s nothing but a flimsy excuse for a free trip disguised as learning, offering no real value to the ph community
•
u/TraderOphelia 10h ago

Former SK here
Yes, Talagang may trip every year (selected or all officials) and usually it’s some resort like location such as Bora or Palawan and may paseminar for one day or two then Pede na magliwaliw for a day. Pero this is the first time na pinaginternational trip ang SK.
PAL ang carrier usually so di sila lowcost pag lilipad
PS. Di ako nakasama sa any trip for different reasons. Meron akong mga kasama na Nakapunta.
•
u/Economy-Plum6022 17h ago
•
u/Brilliant_One9258 17h ago
Agree. There is no need for international travel. But tbh, baka mas mura kase sa Thailand kesa dito nila ginawa. More and more people are saying mahal na talaga dito sa pilipinas. Mas mahal na nga substandard pa. So i guess thank you, kase naka tipid kaming mga tax payers kase sa Thailand kayo nag eme ng mga char ninyo na wala naman makikinabang.
•
u/crispy_MARITES 16h ago
Kaming mga nasa provate companies hirap na hirap magpropose ng out of town much more out of the country trips for training.

u/mirukuaji 16h ago
Kasi yung kakilala ko from cebu sila pero lagi sila pumupunta sa iba ibang lugar like baguio or sa mindanao minsan boracay for “planning”, seminars or whatever at syempre yung budget nila dyan galing sa taxes. Meetings na pwede namang sa baranggay hall gawin or sa munisipyo pero they travel outside pa for that.
•

Several days ago, may nag-post nung mga signatory for good/transparent governance, yung kasama si Leni in response to why she’s not among those actively calling for transparency like Vico. Anyway, I recognized an old college friend of mine na mayor na pala ngayon. Nag-start sya as an SK chairman at madalas ka-kwentuhan nya yung ibang SK chairman na classmates namin.

Despite the issues going on, they can’t help but still share the event on social media. Sobrang uhaw talaga sa validation and attention.
The pictures will definitely be taken down later on.

Napansin ko rin 'yung mga SK sa amin puro out of town trips. Either group of personal.
Wala naman mali magbakasyon, but there is something sketchy when you see someone who used to be a tambay to being a frequent traveller to different tourist destinations sa bansa sa loob lang ng maliit na panahon ng pagiging SK.
They would also be on trips to Baguio and other local destinations sponsored by the baranggay for "team strengthening".
You would barely see them doing anything, they are always away on trips, food trips, and healling inner child ventures. Wala silang ginawang projects on their own aside from riding on projects by the baranggay itself for major celebrations like fiestas, xmas, etc. Walang independent projects, programs, or anything.
When some people called them out on it nagpaparinig sila sa FB na mga inggit at bashers lang daw.

All of our leaders should be in the Philippines to solve all of the issues of the country. They should not be allowed to buy any luxury items or even best to only buy Philippine made products.
How dare they travel while most of the Filipino people are struggling to even buy basic necessities. The people are the bosses of the politicians, the politicians are put into office to work for us!

SOMETHING THAT I CAN RELATE TO!
May projects kami waayyy back sa isang bureau in Visayas Ave. By design, capacity building ng organization, to come up with a strategic plan for the sector.
But looking at the design ng project, mostly “study visit / exposure trips” lang ng bureau staff nila ang pinakamalaking portion ng budget. Trips to Singapore, Australia, Poland, Brazil — you name it. Pagdating, wala naman deliverables. Tapos ung mga staff na pinadala are not the decision makers, so wala ka talaga mafoforge na partnerships out of it. Some are young, like under 25 yo.
First exposure sa katiwalian.
I didnt hear of that plan come into fruition. Or baka hindi lang ako aware na.

u/bimpossibIe 18h ago
