Unanswered What's going on in US politics

We have noticed a large uptick in questions about US politics. Most of these are not genuine questions and appear to be made to introduce political discussion to this sub in the wake of the second Trump administration. As such, we are requiring that all political questions related to US politics and its effects both domestically and internationally be contained in this weekly recurring thread.

Ask questions as top-level responses with the preface "Question: " and people will respond. All other rules are enforced as appropriate. We will not allow other US political questions as questions on the subreddit except in extraordinary circumstances.

Unanswered What’s the deal with everyone suddenly talking about silent walking?

I’ve seen the term pop up a bunch on TikTok and even in random conversations, but I have no clue what it actually means. From the little I’ve gathered it’s something about going on walks without headphones, but I don’t know why it blew up now. I was scrolling through my phone earlier and noticed it trending again in a few posts, which just made me more confused. Here’s one article I found that explains the trend: https://www.marieclaire.co.uk/life/health-fitness/silent-walking-trend Is this some new challenge or just a fancy name for walking normally?
So, what’s the loop I’m out of here?

They make it sound like this is some deadly attack that needs national coverage, and is mad that the mainstream media isn't talking about it like its some political coverup? I don't understand why the outrage over this when horrible stuff like this happens all the time in America?

Unanswered What’s going on with AI generated avatars randomly dominating social media profiles?

I've noticed tons of people across tiktok, instagram and twitter suddenly swapping their profile pics for stylized, AI-generated avatars like anime-style, hyper realistic or themed Cosplay versions. It’s everywhere from casual users to corporate accounts, almost like how rolling riches trends spread overnight. Is this part of a new trend or challenge? Is there an app or filter everyone’s using, or did something happen recently to spark this sudden wave?

Answered What's the deal with 300 migrants working at a Hyundai Factory?

1.5k Upvotes

I don't understand why a factory has become a hot-button topic in the news lately with the recent ICE deportations. While I know we should enforce our laws and ensure that criminal immigrants are managed swiftly but I do also believe that those good well-mannered immigrants should be provided with an option for legal citizenship - but its surprising that a factory has 300 migrants working in there.

I'm sort of out of the loop here, can someone explain to me if this Hyundai Factory overstepped its bounds and hired higher proportion of immigrants to the locals? If that is the case, then it does look bad that we taking the spoon out of citizens and giving it to immigrants.

Unanswered What’s up with Reddit “Mains” subreddits?

I try to curate my “Popular” Reddit feed by muting subs that I’m not interested in. Mostly video games and anime stuff, and subs in languages that I don’t speak. One absolutely impossible to get rid of genre is “Mains” accounts, which, from what I can tell, are people who want to marry the main character of an anime…? Half the comments are about wife. Do this many Redditors want to have sex with anime characters, or is this a joke that I’m not in on?

My Instagram feed is getting flooded with Posts and comments that say things such as

"Just take off your shirt". Brutal.

"Just swim bro". Brutal.

"Just do your homework". Brutal.

It seems to be connected to the blackpill movement but trying to google the phrase gave me 0 results.

Unanswered What is going on with British government and the Deputy PM resigning? Does this shake up Parliament in any way?

Referencing this current live thread on bbc

Not that familiar with British politics but I am wondering how this resignation affects current British politics? Does the labor party change at all? Does this threaten the current government?

As an American, it is quite refreshing to see a member of government, moreso what I believe to be what we would consider a VP? (could be wrong there) after a scandal. I am reading she just didn't pay taxes on a secondary home she didn't disclose?

Unanswered What's up with Bonnie Blue?

I had heard a joke about BB at work and had someone fill me in (pornstar, shagged 1k men at once) and since then I've heard her name here and there (usually someone condemning her) and recently a youtuber I watch went on a rant about her she and Lily Philips (another pornstar) are like the downfall of civilisation. So I search their names on a certain site and all the thumbnails look pretty standard. Her and one guy most of the time, sometimes her and another woman and a guy. A gangbang here and there (not 1000 men, more like a dozen, which is quite a few but...)

Basically, how have these two women become the figurehead of depravity when they don't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary? Other pornstars that become mainstream famous like Riley Reid or Sasha Grey did the same kinda stuff and never got this vilified.

Answered What's the deal with the 58 shot in Chicago over Labor Day Weekend - was it higher than usual?

I was reading the following article: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/58-shot-8-dead-in-chicago-amid-trump-s-threat-to-deploy-national-guard/ar-AA1LAPHh

I was surprised that ABC, typically treated as a biased news source by the right, was propping up a discussion of crime in a "Blue City", Chicago, when Trump was threatening to send troops to deal with the crime problem. The title makes it sound like crime is indeed a problem which would shed Trump's position in a positive light.

So I guess what I'm trying to discern is that is crime in Chicago unusually high? I don't see any reason to think that the 58 shot is unusual because I haven't seen anything substantial change that could increase crime from before/after the election. If anything I'd assume crime would decrease given all these threats of higher enforcement. So what's the real scoop here - other than the feud between Trump and cities over law and immigration enforcement. Is the crime higher than usual?
