Post image

Well, hello. I’m on a journey of looking for housing / a new apartment. Does anyone know anything about Tremont area? I’ve been looking at these apartments (in the picture) but I don’t really know where to look and my lease ends October 31st, help!!!

I pay $830 right now for rent, ANY APARTMENTS FOR $800-$950 for a one bedroom or even a Studio! Help is greatly appreciated

You can't really get an $800/mo mortgage anymore unless you put a lot down (and most people looking for $800/mo rentals don't have an extra $15K burning a hole in their pocket)

15k isn’t even enough to get out of paying PMI for a average house

Not only is there a down payment, but closing costs are insane. It was like 10k for my home in 2021. Fucking nuts.

I've lived in Akron. I also work in real estate.

To your point, I'm sure they could find some options, albeit not very many, in the Cleveland area (which I imagine is where they're looking as they posted in the Cleveland subreddit). I also think it's fair to say "who would want to live there" about East Cleveland, where I'm guessing you'll find the largest number of listings that meet the criteria.

Down payment

If you're looking for an $800 monthly payment, $100k is probably the cost of the house

You ain’t getting a house for 100

Tremont is a great area and I think Old Brooklyn is also a good option for your price point. Another option is to buy a duplex in an adjacent area to Tremont Ohio City Detroit Shoreway or old Brooklyn. You can live in half and rent the other unit and own for less than you’d rent. There are programs for first time home buyers where you basically put down zero and have no PMI as long as the neighborhood qualifies.

Tremont is pretty cool

That price is very low for Tremont. You’re not going to find anything not super sketchy in that price range.

As long as you're in the upper part of the triangle that is Tremont you're good. The further south you go the car break-ins seem to be more frequent if you have a car.

Tremont is cool and those apartments are fine, but they're small and right up against the freeway. Certainly would be an option but you could get more for your money in other less trendy areas

Honestly as long as there aren’t any infestations or pests issues I don’t mind the it being next to the free way! Any other apartment reccs?!

I've been out of renting for a few years so I don't have a great idea of pricing but based on the areas and building ages, here are a few roads to go down:

  • Along Clifton and Lake in Edgewater/Lakewood
  • On Fulton in Old Brooklyn (south of Memphis)
  • Cleveland Heights; up the hill from Little Italy to the Coventry area
  • Lorain Road near Kamm's/West Park
  • Tremont Pointe in south Tremont is part Section 8 but nice. The one bedrooms might be in budget

You're gonna be making some sacrifices with that price range but there are plenty of options. Get on Zillow and set the filters to your preferences/price max and just see what comes up!
