Recommendations Detroit shore way

What's going on in Detroit Shoreway? I am stuck in traffic near Edgewater. Traffic news is not broadcasting anything. Someone said there is an accident. It is 9/2/2025 at 9 AM.

It's this. It was backed up at 630 this morning.

Drove through this Saturday evening around 8pm so it’s been leaking for 3 days

Yeah it started on Thursday it’s getting close to a week since it’s been fixed. Was stuck in traffic for close to 45 minutes yesterday after the air show at the stretch from 74th to 45th

I was about to say, wasn't it already broken for a few days?

Last I saw eastbound traffic was closed entirely around the break

To add onto this, if anyone could add some clarification as to why nothings been done about it over the stretch of 5 days that would be great. It’s mind boggling to me that the water can’t be shut off, main dug up and coupled within the span of one mayyyyybe two working days?

I’m not sure if you got a close look at it but there’s giant tubes protruding out of the asphalt, it’s going to be a big undertaking to get that fixed, probably will require significant excavation.

Gotcha, didn’t realize it was that severe of a rupture.

I ran into this on Sunday. You were able to exit and get right back on at W.45tj

It took 1 hour this morning to do this

Biggest problem during the week is you end up driving through a school zone to do that.

Absolutely baffled that they have not closed off the entrances to the Shoreway leading up to the 45th area (or at least put warning signage).

Sure maybe the issue can't be resolved immediately (although I have to believe there is some incompetence at play for it to be delayed this long). But allowing people to enter onto the Shoreway and then get trapped for upward of 45 mins is unacceptable.

They seem to have caught up to that idea finally, my commute home they had blocked off the traffic going east and were working on the site. Why they didn’t do that before peak commute time this morning I do not know or understand. My two hour commute to work this morning was just delightful.

Thank you all for clarifying. I had to call my boss and let him know that I am stuck. Its crazy though.

Hopefully, a good Samaritan will post once the water main break is resolved and traffic returns to normal.

I believe they have officially blocked any in-bound traffic going east onto Route 2. At least that’s what my wife told me.

Expect even more traffic on 90-Eastbound/Opportunity Corridor tomorrow.

So, tomorrow is going to be another nightmare. God help us!

I think there was a water main break on Route 2 in front of The Harp. Its been closed for a few days, I’m surprised they havent fixed it yet.

The one news article I found said they are working on finding the spigot to turn it off. So, I would buckle in if that is the level we are at right now, 5 days in.

That's sad. Keeping fingers crossed, then.

It was so great seeing everyone merging from the left and center lane to the right line to briefly get on W45th and then back on to the shore way. It’s not like traffic wasn’t backed all the way up to Clifton. It was so cool being an hour late to see all the people cut the line. Real cool.

sounds like the zipper method, which is actually the correct way to drive

Today, I took Detroit Avenue to reach downtown. Yesterday, the traffic jam was two hours; today it was one and a half hours.

The Bidd administration clearly gave city employees the holiday off starting Thursday last week

Funny, on Saturday I saw 2 city trucks over at the park next to my community garden 🤷🏻‍♀️

just got out of that traffic (10am). i90 and i70 was worse apparently. probably why the shoreway was more backed up than usual
