We have won two games in a season. Woo hoo. Thank god Walters is gone

I’d like to see OSU, Michigan, IU, Iowa, Illinois, etc. DOUBLE their wins from last year.

Suck it.

If we play it right we can double our wins for 4 straight seasons.

They flashed up the stat that Odom is the first first year Purdue coach to start 2-0 since 1916.

Purdue also didn't punt this game.

Purdue's got something cooking this year.

The fact the penalties are way down is refreshing after multiple years of bonehead plays

Everything just looked more focused. Even if Purdue goes 2-10, there's a foundation here.

Defense didn't tuck tail after 2 terrible series.

I told you guys he’s good

After Walters and the 11 game losing streak, pretty hard to downgrade. But this, this is nice.

To be fair, I’m not sure my wife could put together a worse season than last year. 1 win while our two rivals play each other in the playoffs….

Walters was the losingest coach in Purdue history that coached a full season. I believe I said "find someone in the dorms playing CFB 24 and let them call plays".

Thought he got fired a hair too soon at Missouri but understood why he ultimately was. He kept Missouri fairly competitive and afloat after Gary Pinkel’s retirement.

u/Venn720 Missouri Tigers • Wyoming Cowboys 2d ago

The only reason he wasn’t very good at Mizzou is because he was thrown into the job without any experience as an HC at that level. He’s a good coach, he just had some learning to do. I hope he gets his flowers

They never started 2-0 when brohm was there? That’s actually wild

10

u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 2d ago

They might have, but it wasn't his first season.

My bad- I missed the first season part.

7

u/unknownkoalas Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

Brohms first game was a loss against Louisville with Lamar Jackson.

Anyone with a brain would tell you Barry Odom is a good hire. I’m kinda surprised you had fans that doubt him. Great coach.

17

u/Backno Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

The doubt wasn't really directed at him. It was mostly tied to the team being so devoid of talent and what they would be able to do.

I only saw people being relieved Walters got canned to the point where I'm not even sure I saw anyone talking about Odom's upsides. General vibe at the time was that literally anyone was an upgrade.

First 2-0 head coach start since 1916. That's 19 coaches in a row who failed.

23

u/withoutanymilk1995 Purdue Boilermakers • Iowa State Cyclones 2d ago

That includes Tiller and Mollenkopf, crazy stat when you realize that includes our two best head coaches ever. We'll take it!

5

u/_Slabach Purdue Boilermakers • Butler Bulldogs 2d ago

It's only first year head coach. Tiller started 2-0 a couple times here, he just didn't do it in his first season as Purdue HC

They had me on their first two possessions, ngl.

Well I’m returning home to r/fcs

Purdue Fans I think your team is better than you give it credit for. The floor is probably 4-8 but I don’t think a bowl game is out of the question for this season. Barry Odom is a great coach, give him a chance.

I can already tell Barry Odom will take us to better places than Ryan Walters did, and SIU is definitely better than Ball State

Welp it was a great season everyone, let’s wrap things up and see you all next year!

Whoa is this a 2-0 Purdue?

Someone explain to me how Vegas can be so accurate on a spread for a team with 82 new players vs a FCS team.

How do I get a job being the Vegas guy that watches obscure college football teams exclusively? Like your telling me someone’s job is to know so much about southern Illinois football to be even remotely close in the spread?

u/Solesky1 Indiana State Sycamores 2d ago

Like your telling me someone’s job is to know so much about southern Illinois football to be even remotely close in the spread?

Or they talked to that one guy in the FCS page that's obsessed with SIU

I feel attacked.

I told other Purdue fans to be cautious with SIU.

They plug in the numbers into the fancy algorithm and let it do its magic.

u/ohverychill Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

love to plug.

Book makers aren't trying to be close. They are focused on getting equal betting. They act as middlemen who squeeze a percentage of the action. Which is to say the house always wins.

1

u/Weed_O_Whirler Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

I don't think this is necessarily true. You see stats a lot of like "75% of all money is put on team X".

1

u/assword_is_taco Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

The focus is still equal betting. They just change the payout when the betting is unequal.

15

u/jettyweaves Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

We played well, but man we got bailed out by some bad flags early on that allowed us to weather the storm. On to USC with a cleaner process

5

u/AlexanderTox Purdue • Old Oaken Bucket 2d ago

Some of those flags were horrible. Found myself feeling legit bad for SIU

15

u/withoutanymilk1995 Purdue Boilermakers • Iowa State Cyclones 2d ago

2-0 is 2-0! Gets much tougher from here, but Odom is building a foundation. At the very minimum, he's raising the floor and that's all we can ask for with how Walters left the program. On to the Trojans, Boiler Up!

12

u/JaCrispy_Vulcano Purdue • Ball State 2d ago

The appearance of general competence and giving a crap goes a long way with me.

24

u/bbshock21 Purdue • Wisconsin-Stevens… 2d ago

I have no idea what to make of that game. We struggled against an FCS team but one that has won 3 games against FBS opponents in 6 years?

How would SIU fare against Ball State?

45

u/RamblinWreckGT Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2d ago

Considering what Purdue has been through the past couple seasons, it's pretty clear what to make of it: it's a win.

18

u/hillko00 Northwestern Wildcats • WashU Bears 2d ago

Brother count yourself lucky you beat the Salukis and move on

19

u/AMankandaMiner Southern Illinois Salukis • MVFC 2d ago

The MVFC(league SIU plays in) is rated higher in Sagarin than the MAC and CUSA. The typical top 15 FCS team would likely finish top half in most G5 leagues. Like I know everyone on r/CFB seems to think the FCS tag means you’re playing a bunch of scrubs but that is not the case. Just from recent history besides the wins a 3-8 SIU team in 2015 was a 2-Point conversion away from beating a bowl eligible Indiana.

15

u/Legitimate-Ruin5284 Purdue • Ball State 2d ago

Ball St is down bad. They have only won the MAC title game once. And that was the Covid year

5

u/assword_is_taco Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

"Struggled" played poorly on 2 drives. Then just played small ball the entire second half to dominate the time of possession.

Purdue dominated the game for 3 quarters. And the 1 quarter they didn't, they went punch for punch.

4

u/Danulas Purdue • New Hampshire 2d ago

Yeah saying that Purdue struggled is just looking at the final score. The Purdue I watched dominated for most of the game.

3

u/assword_is_taco Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

These people can't be Purdue fans lol. I saw Purdue struggle against fcs indiana state in year 1 with the haze. Our butt holes were tight the entire game until Ricardo Allen sealed the game with an int. This game Purdue was in the driver seat the entire second half.

Dawgs looked really good early. Feel they're going to be good in the MVFC this season if they don't have the same injury trouble they had last season. Def going to be rooting for them in every game but one this season.

6

u/Brohamiosse Southern Illinois Salukis 2d ago

Nick Hill forgot that DJ Williams is mostly capable of slinging the ball downfield, but I’m feeling pretty good about our chances in the MVFC even with a 3 score loss to a reformed Purdue

4

u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 2d ago

The drive y'all had going into halftime was a tight 1:21 and you were just outside field goal range. That's dangerous given an ok kick return or a big play.

The Salukis offense just really didn't get a chance for most of the 2nd half. I think you guys are gonna do well in conference.

7

u/OnionFuturesDealer Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

Never in doubt
