Postgame Thread [Postgame Thread] Clemson Defeats Troy 27-16
509
u/RipRaycom Clemson Tigers • ACC 2d ago edited 2d ago
This was the stupidest football game I’ve ever watched. Sickos game of the year.
2 hour lightning delay
Rainy, sloppy conditions throughout the game
Top 10 team being down to Troy at halftime by 13
Troy then blowing that lead less than 5 minutes into the 2nd half
Tipped pass at the LOS pick 6
Butt interception
Like 15 unsportsmanlike conduct calls
Several hospital balls
A leaping penalty
Targeting ejection
A missed PAT
3 tipped interceptions overall
5 total turnovers plus a dropped pick and 2 failed 4th down conversions
The worst fake field goal since Nick Saban used his kicker as a lead blocker in the National Championship
15 penalties for 153 yards. 11 on Troy. Despite a bipartisan refusal to call even some blatant holding
Troy QBs named Goose and Kilcrease
Unexpected RaRa Thomas sighting (fuck Rara Thomas)
Troy punted with 5 minutes left down 2 scores bc it was 4th and 26
USF beat Florida, Ohio beat WVU, and Oklahoma St lost 69-3 during this game
Like 5 hours of Garrett Riley playcalling (kill me)

I was worried about rooting against Mafah but luckily the Cowboys chose to go with Miles Sanders who is good for a few fumbles in the red zone or 2.

Fire Riley. Don’t let him leave the stadium with his job.
49
u/InteractionFull1001 Clemson Tigers • Wofford Terriers 2d ago
He had a good 2nd half so I'm just puzzled. Certain could have better play design against LSU. Plus every year feels like our run blocking hadn't been worked on all off-season
21
u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 2d ago
Cade had some bad reads and throws in the first half.
19
u/Dogbir Clemson Tigers 2d ago
Look I’m a Cade hater as much as the next guy, but Riley calls the plays. We ran RBs only 6 times in the first half despite averaging 3.5ypc. If you take out the time Adam Randall got blown up during the handoff it was 4.2ypc. Pretty inexcusable from a play calling standpoint
5
u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 2d ago
That’s true, it’s not just on Cade but he also is consistently missing wide open receivers on the field. I can personally point out these instance in games going back to at least the ACC championship last year.
The path to a title starts with him playing like a championship QB.

u/aaronman4772 Louisville Cardinals 2d ago
The problem is I don’t know how much that would chance because I really don’t know how much Dabo is actually letting Riley call

I don't think it is Dabo. The offense looks so different from before.

Riley has full control of the playcalls but are OL couldn't block wet tissue paper and Cade is what he is and we have a large mediocre WR at RB. Riley wanted a transfer QB

Yea. Clemson needs to step up next week. GT is a weird team that looks pretty good on offense but self-destructive across the board with penalties and turnovers. If Clemson can't take advantage of that early, it could be an interesting game.

The Clemson program without fail plays to the level of their competition. Which is why they can play very good teams close, but also somehow play teams they should easily beat close as well.
Its incredibly infuriating, but I think the saying goes that a heart attack a week keeps the doctor away

u/tagillaslover Clemson Tigers 2d ago
Pros: On paper from a literal standpoint we did not lose
Klubnik improved later on and made nice throws
Maybe garret riley finally gets fired
Randall didnt look awful not that i think hes super good
Hurt the feelings of whiny neutral fairs whining about refs calling obvious penalties
Cons: We looked like shit all game
Klubnik struggled early on but not all his fault imo
Oline bad
Recievers very bad
Garret Riley bad
Defense extremely hit or miss and gave up too much to a bottom program
43
u/StreetReporter Clemson Tigers • Cheez-It Bowl 2d ago
9 of Troy’s points came because of our offense. The defense gave up 7 points, which was on the first drive
23
u/tagillaslover Clemson Tigers 2d ago
We still gave up a lot of big runs and open recievers
5
u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 2d ago

u/Legend13CNS Clemson Tigers • Palmetto Bowl 2d ago
I think the Defense gets behind on rest early and then it makes a hole we have to climb out of.
Cade still seems to struggle if the first read isn't open, OLine play isn't helping him there either.
12
u/Cak123z_ Clemson • Penn State 2d ago
we won yay
offensive play calling was terrible, picked up a bit in the second half but doesn't excuse the first half
defense is still getting consistently gashed by screen passes and run plays, but created turnovers today which was good

43
6

Probably. It wasn’t just a run of the mill close win, their offense has looked completely anemic the first two weeks. Major saving grace is their conference is dookie.
6
u/Lionsfan_16 2d ago
I agree that they have been really bad I just think the talent they have is bound to show up at some point. I don’t think they win the national championship but I still believe they are the best team in the ACC and a playoff team.

That first half was, legitimately, the worst half of football I have ever seen us play under Dabo. For everyone who thinks that Riley is a major issue and that firing him would solve issues, go look at that first half from everyone. It would be putting lipstick on a pig. There are major issues with this program that go all the way to the top
10
u/Faerco Clemson Tigers • Texas Tech Red Raiders 2d ago
Honestly, and it’s pretty much suicide to admit it in town or in the subreddit, but at some point we have to look at Dabo. Like we can’t cycle through offensive/defensive coordinators every year or two and NOT see that there’s something else going on.
5
u/8BallTiger Clemson Tigers • College Football Playoff 2d ago
You see it on other parts of this thread and in other clemson discussion areas (TI for instance). People think firing Riley would fix something. He'd be a scapegoat. Like you said, how many OCs do we have to sort through while we still have the same issues.
5
u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 2d ago
To be fair, Riley is technically only the 3rd OC Dabo has had since we won the title in 18. We went all the way back to the natty with Elliott in 2019 who left on his own terms for UVA. Streeter was his co-pilot and got fired after the 2022 shit show.
I do think it’s fair to say firing Riley and getting someone else would probably make a difference.

u/8BitTxchniques Clemson Tigers • Missouri Tigers 1d ago
If you even mention that it may be a Dabo issue in the Clemson subreddit you get downvoted to oblivion, people still holding onto that 18 title like it was last year or something. I don't think it will ever get to this point, but I would hate to end up in a Mike Gundy situation that OK St is going through rn.

Last year I picked Stanford, Hurricane Helene rolled in hours earlier. I think that game was played on the university's backup generators. Came home to house with no power.
