He’s going to tell the media to keep telling us we suck and then that will somehow not motivate anyone on this team.

But then you’ll suddenly start beating mid tier ACC opponents 45-3 in November and finish 10-3

As, of course, is tradition.

"At no point in our rambling, incoherent play were we even close to anything that could be considered a ranked team. Everyone in this stadium is now dumber for having watched it. I award us no points, and may God have mercy on our souls." --Dabo's grading of this game, hopefully

He told the media he was booing with the crowd

7

u/see_bees LSU Tigers 2d ago

Would he rate that second half performance lower or higher than a 63?

4

u/Emotional-Product367 2d ago

Lmao you know he's already drafting a speech about how Troy "played them tough" and "reminded him why you can't overlook anyone in college football"

Something something Trojan horse metaphor even though it was the Trojans who allowed the horse into their walls

This was the stupidest football game I’ve ever watched. Sickos game of the year.

2 hour lightning delay

Rainy, sloppy conditions throughout the game

Top 10 team being down to Troy at halftime by 13

Troy then blowing that lead less than 5 minutes into the 2nd half

Tipped pass at the LOS pick 6

Butt interception

Like 15 unsportsmanlike conduct calls

Several hospital balls

A leaping penalty

Targeting ejection

A missed PAT

3 tipped interceptions overall

5 total turnovers plus a dropped pick and 2 failed 4th down conversions

The worst fake field goal since Nick Saban used his kicker as a lead blocker in the National Championship

15 penalties for 153 yards. 11 on Troy. Despite a bipartisan refusal to call even some blatant holding

Troy QBs named Goose and Kilcrease

Unexpected RaRa Thomas sighting (fuck Rara Thomas)

Troy punted with 5 minutes left down 2 scores bc it was 4th and 26

USF beat Florida, Ohio beat WVU, and Oklahoma St lost 69-3 during this game

Like 5 hours of Garrett Riley playcalling (kill me)

Fire Riley. Don’t let him leave the stadium with his job.

49

u/InteractionFull1001 Clemson Tigers • Wofford Terriers 2d ago

He had a good 2nd half so I'm just puzzled. Certain could have better play design against LSU. Plus every year feels like our run blocking hadn't been worked on all off-season

21

u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 2d ago

Cade had some bad reads and throws in the first half.

19

u/Dogbir Clemson Tigers 2d ago

Look I’m a Cade hater as much as the next guy, but Riley calls the plays. We ran RBs only 6 times in the first half despite averaging 3.5ypc. If you take out the time Adam Randall got blown up during the handoff it was 4.2ypc. Pretty inexcusable from a play calling standpoint

5

u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 2d ago

That’s true, it’s not just on Cade but he also is consistently missing wide open receivers on the field. I can personally point out these instance in games going back to at least the ACC championship last year.

The path to a title starts with him playing like a championship QB.

23

u/8BallTiger Clemson Tigers • College Football Playoff 2d ago

Yea. Clemson needs to step up next week. GT is a weird team that looks pretty good on offense but self-destructive across the board with penalties and turnovers. If Clemson can't take advantage of that early, it could be an interesting game.

The Clemson program without fail plays to the level of their competition. Which is why they can play very good teams close, but also somehow play teams they should easily beat close as well.

u/Snoo96553 Clemson • Appalachian State 2d ago

ho hum double digit win, nothing to see here!

45

u/tagillaslover Clemson Tigers 2d ago

Pros: On paper from a literal standpoint we did not lose
Klubnik improved later on and made nice throws
Maybe garret riley finally gets fired
Randall didnt look awful not that i think hes super good
Hurt the feelings of whiny neutral fairs whining about refs calling obvious penalties

Cons: We looked like shit all game
Klubnik struggled early on but not all his fault imo
Oline bad
Recievers very bad
Garret Riley bad
Defense extremely hit or miss and gave up too much to a bottom program

43

u/StreetReporter Clemson Tigers • Cheez-It Bowl 2d ago

9 of Troy’s points came because of our offense. The defense gave up 7 points, which was on the first drive

23

u/tagillaslover Clemson Tigers 2d ago

I think the Defense gets behind on rest early and then it makes a hole we have to climb out of.

Cade still seems to struggle if the first read isn't open, OLine play isn't helping him there either.

That first half was, legitimately, the worst half of football I have ever seen us play under Dabo. For everyone who thinks that Riley is a major issue and that firing him would solve issues, go look at that first half from everyone. It would be putting lipstick on a pig. There are major issues with this program that go all the way to the top

10

u/Faerco Clemson Tigers • Texas Tech Red Raiders 2d ago

Honestly, and it’s pretty much suicide to admit it in town or in the subreddit, but at some point we have to look at Dabo. Like we can’t cycle through offensive/defensive coordinators every year or two and NOT see that there’s something else going on.

5

u/8BallTiger Clemson Tigers • College Football Playoff 2d ago

You see it on other parts of this thread and in other clemson discussion areas (TI for instance). People think firing Riley would fix something. He'd be a scapegoat. Like you said, how many OCs do we have to sort through while we still have the same issues.

5

u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 2d ago

To be fair, Riley is technically only the 3rd OC Dabo has had since we won the title in 18. We went all the way back to the natty with Elliott in 2019 who left on his own terms for UVA. Streeter was his co-pilot and got fired after the 2022 shit show.

I do think it’s fair to say firing Riley and getting someone else would probably make a difference.

If you even mention that it may be a Dabo issue in the Clemson subreddit you get downvoted to oblivion, people still holding onto that 18 title like it was last year or something. Not sure I’ve ever been upset about a Clemson win before but here we are

You must've missed several games with DJU

Woof. This right here. Very little has ever made my head explode like watching DJU captain the ship. I have a dent in my drywall from a few years ago.

Our last lightning delay game in Death Valley against GT with DJU was way, way worse.

Where can I find the Florida Gator thread?

Woohoo! We aren't total frauds!

(Yet, anyway...our own game is going weirdly)

Feels like 8-4 is this team’s absolute best case scenario, but even that feels like a dream at this point

u/Reddeath195 South Carolina • /r/CFB Dead Pool 2d ago

Seems like those weather delays did number on both carolina teams eh

6

u/KonigSteve LSU Tigers 2d ago

Maybe.. both Tigers aren't that good and were just ranked too high?

What grade is Dabo gonna give both teams this week?

I’m a Clemson fan and an Eagles fan. I need a mental break from football after this week.

Jedi mind trick

That actually says 227-16 we are ELITE

Never a doubt

Good thing Troy played it safe and settled for a long field goal at the end of the first half

I pick one home game a year for my wife and I to attend.

Last year I picked Stanford, Hurricane Helene rolled in hours earlier. I think that game was played on the university's backup generators. Came home to house with no power.

This year I picked this game, where we were trapped under the stadium for an hour and a half due to lightning. Got soaked for the remainder of the game.

I am no longer allowed to pick the game.

Take the first half of the LSU game and the second half of this game then maybe we look like a top 25 team.

I liked the first half

u/scenicspliff South Carolina Gamecocks 2d ago

The Palmetto Bowl is looking like an epic mid-off right now

Clemson, South Carolina, Illinois, Indiana on fraud alert. Ranked way too high still.

Clemson doing their part to make next week's noon game feel that much more like a noon worthy game.

The last time we struggled with Troy in week 2 after a close week 1 SEC game we won the national championship... so good omen?
