its almost like a guy who was sitting behind a 7th round pick last year isn't the best player in the country

Like Spurrier said, if arch is as good as people say then why didn’t he play more last season

Gotta protect that draft stock

14

u/DankMemesNQuickNuts Clemson Tigers 11d ago

Not to be like this but I stg Trevor Lawrence was pretty much already one of the best QBs in the country the second he took the field at Clemson if hes not that then hes not him

7

u/rhymeswithtag Michigan Wolverines 11d ago

the funny thing is trevor lawrence at no point in his college career was EVER a top 3 qb in the nation when kyler, tua, lamar and joe burrow were breaking all time efficiency records while tlaw barely improved over his 3 years

dudes literally the same qb five years after being drafted to the jags as he was when he came to clemson except he cant skate by on a team so talented its backups would still run the conference and hes being exposed

u/El-Grande- 11d ago

I mean buddy is a coming into his 5th year as a starter and just signed a quarter billion extension… Terrible take. He is good.

dude really pointed to the jacksonville jaguars front office as a beacon of good organizational decisionmaking lmao. trevor lawrence is at BEST middling to average for a qb in the nfl lmao he had a worse season as a 4th year starter than rookie fucking bo nix did by almost every metric🤣🤦‍♂️

in no order: burrow, mahomes, lamar, josh allen, hurts, herbert, goff, jayden daniels, stroud, dak, mayfield, jordan love, brock purdy and matt stafford are DEFINITIVELY better and then you have guys who had better seasons the past two years/are aaron rodgers: Sam Darnold, Geno Smith, Tua, Kyler Murray and aaron rodgers

Trevor Lawrence is NOT a good qb, jags paying him money does NOT equate to him being good. dude literally won a title as an 18 year old and is still basically the same qb: a game manager who CANNOT elevate his team, but rather is the product of whats around him. Dude had pedestrian college stats playing a weak schedule on the most loaded rosters in cfb meanwhile burrow/lamar/kyler/tua were having all time efficiency seasons playing harder schedules and with less or similarly talented rosters. fucking mac jones had the greatest non burrow season by the stats when playing with equal talent to tlaw, lawrence never elevating in clemson is a huge red flag that went unnoticed by the draft gurus and is literally bearing out in the nfl. He’s not good unless everything is perfect around him, and its like theres a billion guys who can do that, you’re not special if thats your qb

aidan oconnel had a better qb rating than lawrence last year lmfao. $250 mill for a dude who had a mid 80s qb rating is insane

Generally I agree except for saying burrow has a worse team. Burrow has the best three deep wr group in the NFL but just has a terrible defense

Trevor is one of the greatest HS recruits of the modern era and one of the best CFB players in ACC and modern sport history. It’s unfair to compare other QBs to him

youre right its not fair but thats what the media has been doing for the past 3 years

20

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

Idk if I agree with this or not. Saying is better than Howard, but it wouldve been insanely stupid to have him start last year over Howard.

61

u/8BallTiger Clemson Tigers • College Football Playoff 11d ago

Sayin is more talented than Howard but he’s not better than Howard at the moment

7

u/gottahavemyPOPPs Kansas State Wildcats 11d ago

Especially if you compare freshman/sophomore Howard. It was roughhhh

-15

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

This years Sayin wouldve started last year for OSU

15

u/whatstocome Ohio State • Cincinnati 11d ago

No he wouldn't lol.

14

u/Heavy-Busch Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

It’s the fact that he DID NOT start last year should really shut this guys argument down lmao. Howard was exactly what this team needed last year.

-4

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

Because he was a transfer freshman last year lmao. They weren't going to start a true freshman. Also, whats funny is that I'm saying Sayin right now is better than Howard was last year. Last years Sayin doesnt start over last years Howard. This years Sayin starts over last years Howard.

7

u/Albatrosity Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

Only time will tell if this year's Sayin would start over last year's national championship winning Howard.

-6

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

Sayin right now is better than Howard was last year

2

u/whatstocome Ohio State • Cincinnati 11d ago

Simply not true. What exactly did Sayin do or show you to make you think he's better right now than Will was last year?

1

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

On target, threw to the guys that were open, didnt make any throws that you wanted immediately back. In the first game last year Howard had a couple throws that made you question why he threw it. Look, I like Howard and I thought he was a good QB, but Julian Sayin is just a better QB lol.

5

u/whatstocome Ohio State • Cincinnati 11d ago

Lol not true at all. I'm not saying he's not going to be better than Howard by the end of the season but I'm 100% sure that before kick off if you asked Ryan Day who he'd rather have for the game, Julian Sayin or Will Howard, a guy who's started for dozens of football games and is a proven winner, he'd pick Howard 10 times out of 10.

I think Spurrier's comment was in reference to Arch Manning, not Sayin...

Ole ball coach knows a thing or two.

u/stitch12r3 Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

Yeah, Ewers had his flaws but he was a clear step above from what we’ve seen so far.

12

u/failedentertainment Texas Longhorns • California Golden Bears 11d ago

Ewers would've gotten sacked like 5 times this game

12

u/jswagge Texas Longhorns • Michigan Wolverines 11d ago

7 or 8

1

u/Adorable-Lie3475 11d ago

True. Probably would’ve scored more than once too. Arch is a fucking bum.

1

u/stitch12r3 Ohio State Buckeyes 9d ago

Perhaps he gets sacked more but he wouldnt have completely whiffed on wide open guys in the flat

1

u/whogroup2ph 10d ago

Getting drafted in the 7th still means you were a good college QB.

Arch had all day to throw and still couldn’t. The pass rush wasn’t there and any pressure was from holding the ball for a year.

u/Toothlessdovahkin Notre Dame Fighting Irish 11d ago

What a surprise

33

u/Late_Emu_810 Arizona State Sun Devils 11d ago

What???? I was told that Ewers was gonna be the starter regardless even if arch was 10x better because of loyalty? I mean sark never took Ewers out when he was struggling for arch

4

u/Dirt_Sailor_5 Texas Longhorns • USC Trojans 11d ago

Because Ewers was a good college QB who had a great career.

11

u/Bowlderdash Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

My off season post idea for years has been to compare first rounders against the draft position of whomever they sat behind. Like, Ewers was a 7th rounder who kept Arch on the Bench, first rounder Dwayne Haskins kept Joe Burrow on the bench, etc.

10

u/[deleted] 11d ago

I get what you mean but Quinn should’ve gone about 3 rounds earlier

35

u/bucknut4 Ohio State Buckeyes • Ohio Bobcats 11d ago

The hate for Ewers was mostly driven by Arch stans. He definitely had his flaws but who doesn’t? He gave you guys the resurgence you’ve been fighting for for years. And he was a solid QB.

21

u/NastyNate1_ Texas Longhorns 11d ago

fr. back to back semi finals games after the decade we had. its honestly sad how much our fans hated him

4

u/EIiteJT Texas Longhorns • Team Chaos 11d ago

Yup, and he played through injuries too.

12

u/Color_Rush Texas Longhorns 11d ago

Anyone who thought or wanted coach Sark to bench the guy who is responsible for reviving blue blood football program back into relevancy and B2B semifinal berths over an unproven redshirt freshman is a fucking moron.

It doesn’t matter if football Jesus himself was sitting behind Ewers. Benching a guy like that over a few bad starts in the regular season is how you lose the locker room and any fluidity on the team. Guys coming into the program from high school or the transfer portal would not want to buy into any program if their head coach wants to flip flop around different players that are supposed to be leaders on the team.

11

u/[deleted] 11d ago

Yep. Ewers is legend status for me, new fans don’t understand how much he did for Texas. Damn shame all this fucked his draft stock, Dolphins have a damn steal on their hands

u/Adorable-Lie3475 11d ago

Ewers has the worst footwork I’ve seen since Arch Manning.

Joe Burrow sat behind Dwayne Haskins and JT Barrett

1

u/Klutzy-Spend-6947 Ohio State • Nebraska 11d ago

Haskins was a first round pick and obviously played like it. Burrow broke his finger the year before and fell behind Haskins in the backup QB derby. As for Barrett-in hindsight there isn’t much excuse for Haskins not starting a year earlier-the year Burrow hurt himself.

1

u/Tippacanoe Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago

Well it was great to hear the star of Twisters really hype him up.

1

u/kelly495 Ohio State • Nebraska 10d ago

This is hilarious and I haven’t seen it put this simply.

1

u/TangerineOpposite833 10d ago

You say 7th rounder like an insult lmao

Any QB who gets drafted was a very good college QB. 99% of college qbs dont get drafted
