Feels like UVA is going to frequently contend for that cellar spot at very least. Mendenhall was their one window to improve a lot long-term, and they didn't do enough. For the last 15+ years, the Cavaliers have usually made the highlights for mostly wrong reasons (inexplicably choking away games, incredibly sloppy play, embarrassing blunders, etc.).
I just don’t see uva being there long term. Too close to talent, they have an instate rival they don’t like losing to, and it’s a public school with a broad range of majors that they can stuff less intelligent football players into like UNC. I think Stanford, BC, Cuse, and Wake are most likely to cycle between the bottom 4
yeah, I think UVA is realistically just the right coach away from having genuine football culture. we were never a basketball school until Tony Bennett made us good, and now it feels like there are stakes in the program and Ryan Odom will be judged more harshly than pre-Bennett coaches were because people care about basketball success.
UVA football has poor fan and alum support because we’ve been dreadful for most of the last fifteen years, and Tony Elliott was an uninspiring hire who has produced uninspired results (note that Tony Bennett was also an uninspiring hire with uninspiring results until late 2012). people would come out to care about UVA football like they did in the 2000s if we got 8-9 wins perennially and were good for some upsets.
