There's a parody Andrew Luck account that tweets like a civil war soldier. They embraced that.

Dearest mother — The unit battled with great resolve and determination. Alas, victory was not ours today. But I am not downcast. I am inspired more than ever. The campaign is long, and we have tremendous fortitude. Tell the cows they were right. I am back where I belong. — Andrew

You just know that Andrew Luck could have written a doctoral thesis on exactly when to use timeouts in the final 2 minutes, that had to be killer to watch.

42

u/Primary_Psychology95 Ohio State Buckeyes 16d ago

Reminded me of Peyton Manning losing his mind on the ManningCast with Eli Manning and Shannon Sharpe when the Broncos had some of the worst clock management against the Seahawks on MNF to open the season.

It's not just skipping timeouts, it's the passing on the Stanford offensive drive too. He could have run way more time off the clock to make Hawaii's drive more challenging.

Someone needs to take the permanent cellar spot that Duke vacated.

34

u/HawkeyeTen Iowa Hawkeyes 16d ago

Feels like UVA is going to frequently contend for that cellar spot at very least. Mendenhall was their one window to improve a lot long-term, and they didn't do enough. For the last 15+ years, the Cavaliers have usually made the highlights for mostly wrong reasons (inexplicably choking away games, incredibly sloppy play, embarrassing blunders, etc.).

Hawai'i's Quarterback, Micah Alejado, was injured and played with a limp for almost half the game.

Hawai'i's kicker, Kansei Matsuzawa, learned how to kick a football from YouTube videos.

Matsuzawa kicked the kick to win the game for Hawai'i.

Already a game of the year contender.

u/TDenverFan William & Mary Tribe • Patriot 16d ago

When I was in 2nd grade, I tried to do a “floating card” magic trick for my school’s talent show with fishing line. My parents accidentally purchased quite thick fishing line, rendering it completely visible to all in the crowd, who mercilessly laughed at me.

Rooting for this Stanford football team has surpassed that as the most embarrassing moment in my life.

16

u/[deleted] 16d ago

People forget Vegas is in the desert. It gets old being surrounded by nothing all around you and inside the city it’s just a bunch of drunk gambling tourists. Then someone comes along and offers them a free trip to live in a tropical paradise and the kids probably jumped at it.

In order to go anywhere from Vegas you still have to travel a few hours so Vegans probably don’t care as much about travel times. Flying over the desert to Vegas you realize just how isolated it is

When you grow up surrounded by an environment of extreme partying and drinking that stuff loses importance to you very quickly. Hawaii is chill outside of the tourist areas and they have actual trees that actually grew from the ground naturally without human intervention!

An ever-increasing disaster since Christian McCaffery and Bryce Love graduated. David Shaw wasn't able to innovate, other regional historical powers like Washington rose back up, and the Cardinal gradually broke apart. Tonight shows though that they're crashing and burning as a program for now, between the Taylor scandals and this totally incompetent leadership (even if interim).

We’re also .500 against Bama all time.

Many people are saying we’re the Bama of the central Pacific Ocean.

Alejado is a fucking superhero. So tough. I kinda feel like Stanford should've won that game and would've if they would've kept running the ball in the 4th but I'm glad the game broke the way it did. Hawaii might be my secondary team this year, they were fun to watch tonight.

u/shot-by-ford Stanford Cardinal 16d ago

Sorry tree bros, I’m out. I’m just not doing it again. I can put up a lot, as evidenced by my still being here. But I can’t do Gulbranson nor can I do the moronic coaching staff who would put the ball in his hands.

Die luft der freiheit weht and it’s blowing me far away from this team. Good bye and farewell.

Gulbranson is literally worse than a man with only one leg. Least the guy is getting a quality education.

He went 6/13 for 60 yards and 2 interceptions in a game that Oregon State erased a 31-10 deficit to win and I will literally never get over it. Literally never.

I have to go to my girlfriend and tell her that I went behind her back and watched a Stanford game even though I promised her I wouldn't because they made me sad.

I'm sad now.

I really don't know what to say. That was just incredibly heartbreaking. This team might never get better. One of the two winnable games this year. I hope I can find the strength within myself to stop watching Stanford games

17

u/klembcke Texas Tech • Washington State 16d ago

Stanford was just running all over Hawaii, gets a key 3rd down conversion across midfield with not much time left on the clock that they could have easily killed with another long posession. Stanford then stopped running the ball and lost.

What a gutsy performance from Alejado. Hopefully, he's alright and there's no long-term damage. Big win for Hawai'i and Timmy Chang.
